The camera for enthusiast

I was late to the Fuji systems but better late than never. It is a quirky camera in many respects but its a camera that makes me want to go out and shoot. Form factor is great (light, compact, discrete manual controls, bright non laggy EVF) and the available lenses from Fuji are all optically amazing. I own the XF14mm, 27mm, 35mm f/2, and 18-55mm f/2.8-4 and they all produce simply amazing results. High ISO performance is very good allowing me use it indoors without fear of missing shots. IQ in general is excellent with a unique rendering of colors that I seem to gravitate to. Focus speed is just behind the best. Its fast enough for kids and general photography but if shooting sports is your thing, there are probably better options. This is the perfect travel camera offering the best compromise of size and handling with good looks to boot. It is the coolest camera offering up the most convincing retro styling but with modern capabilities.

Excellent Personal Shredder

I bought this on a whim replacing an $150 Activa shredder that lasted only about a year. To my surprise, this Sentinel works great especially given its low price. Its fairly quiet and microshreds to fine little squares providing a little added security and space savings increasing time between bin dumps. Works a lot better than expected given the price. It has sufficient power to shred thick envelops without having to open and parse into individual sheets. I am hoping this Sentinel unit will last longer my last one. So far so good. Recommended.

Best budget wireless adapter

I normally don't write reviews but this product is so impressive I had to share. Don't let the low price deter you. I have a tried a dozen USB wireless adapters and few have performed as well as this one. Range and performance is excellent and no issues with the driver. It performs better than some the latest AC standard adapters I've tried. Connection is reliable and not as finicky as others in regards to placement location. It simply works with no hassles. If you just need wifi for cruising the internet, the N300 transfer speed is more than sufficient. I have 100Mb service and am able to get the full bandwidth (download) consistently 40ft. away in a room adjacent to the router. HD video stream immediately and with no hiccups. For reference, I have the Linksys WRT1900ac router and Netgear Nighthawk R7000 at the other end of the house. This TP-link adapter connects to both routers perfectly. Highly recommended.

Great bare floor cleaner

Its been a great little vacuum on my hardwood floors. Suction is impressive especially given its size. Easy to handle and light enough to simply carry in one hand as you go about vacuuming everything. It picks up the finest dust particles; the filters do require cleaning because the smallest of smallest dust gets sucked in. I'm use to bagged vacuums and am use to just replacing the bags but the I think the trade off here is worth it. As long as you stick to hard flooring and low pile rugs, this unit is great.
I see complaints about suction in some of the other reviews and the only thing I can think of is they must have gotten bad units. The suction with my unit is impressive irrespective of the fact that it only has a 10A motor. I also have the top rated top kenmoore 21814 canister vacuum and I would say the T8 is every bit as powerful as the bigger kenmoore. I think given the size and weight, the T8 is a stellar vacuum. Its fairly quiet too. Much quieter than the Hoovers uprights I use to own. The kenmoore is definitely superior on carpet but the T8 holds its on everywhere else. I use the T8 way moore than the Kenmoore because its much easier to pull out and use. No need to lug around a bigger vacuum unless its to clean larger areas.
Complaints: Well I think the cord is on the shorter size; maybe to keep physical size down, cord length was the trade off. The canister plastic is a magnet to fine dust particles and difficult to remove. You pretty much have to wash out the canister to get out the ultra fine dust. Obviously not an issue with bagged vacuums. Overall given its price, size, and intended function, the T8 is a winner.
Happy shopping.

Best Chromebook Value
on February 22, 2015

I got this to quickly grab emails and for general web access in the bedroom. I ended up with a chromebook because they aren't fussy and are easy to maintain. Efficient as computing gets. My non-tech mom can use it with no support.
I have quite a few PCs, laptops, and tablets and they all have compromises regardless of price. I even own a Macbook. If you buy this knowing that this isn't going to be a workstation or game machine then it will meet and exceed all expectations. It boots almost instantly, supports AC wireless, is small and light, has HDMI out, its stable, and battery life is excellent probably due to the new low power Intel processor. Maps, mail, youtube, Netflix, web centric tasks all run with ease and no issues.
As for features, the Screen is decent given the price; better than some of the higher priced chromebooks I checked out. It was between this and the Toshiba 13" HD which was double the price. Although the Toshiba had a nicer screen, I talked myself out of it due to the intended purpose. The acer screen is decent enough. No blue tint to the display like a few of the other competitors. Yes viewing angles are a little limited but no worse than most of the cheap laptops. Its light, portable, and fairly sturdy. Battery life is amazing at this price. I would say easy 7 hours of use cruising the web.
Cons: My only complaint is not having the ability to upgrade memory. 2 GB is, at times, a bottle neck and you do see slow downs if you are multi-tasking. In its defense, I realize adding a memory slot costs money; I guess compromises had to be made given its price point.
All in all, I can safely say its the best chromebook value at the moment. No real flaws functionally and the compromises are bearable. I got it on sale and below $200 and would say its the best chromebook value. I direct friends and family to this model.

Solid Performer
on April 4, 2014

This camera performs about as well as the D7100 but without some of the features i.e. bracketing, dual card slots, deeper buffer, etc. If you care only about picture quality and don't need some of the more advance capabilities of a semi-pro camera.... the D3300 is great. 24MP stills and shoots 1080P 60FPS video.
It has essentially the same processing engine and OLPF free sensor as its more expensive siblings. I bought it because its much more convenient to travel with being light and compact and I can still use the optics I bought for my other Nikon bodies. Because of its size, it doesn't call too much attention to itself and allows you to shoot more obscurely. You get the same amazing pictures as with the more advance Nikon cameras; Great results especially when you pair it with the sharp fast prime lenses.
Don't pay too much attention to the bad reviews. This is a solid performing camera with all the features you'll need to shoot great pics. I've taken the D3300 to two foreign countries already and its performed exemplarily. The only issues I ran into was the laggy response shooting in Live View (common with most of the Nikon DSLRs) and the occasional erratic over exposure in bright sun light. Nothing major to keep me from loving this camera. I think its a great value.
