Maybe I just expected more, given the price of this vacuum; in the end I grew so frustrated and annoyed that I ended up throwing it away. More than anything else, it's unbearably loud. Sounds like a leaf blower when turning it on. The attached bristle tool does nothing but collect dirt and dust; constantly getting in the way and flipping back and forth. Save your time, save your money; get something less complicated or stop wasting money by trading up and not wanting to spend the money and just get a good one.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
