Originally released over a year ago, "Anatomy of an Apricot" is the transatlantic collaboration of Lane Steinberg (US) and Alexander Khodchenko (Ukraine). The two men have never met or even spoken, but you would never know that from this seamlessly produced, beautifully recorded album of psychedelic pop. Every song sounds as though it would sit comfortably in rotation with British psychedelia of the mid sixties, or the best of the Paisley Underground from the 1980's, yet nothing about it is derivative. Lane Steinberg, originally of The Wind, a Miami-based power pop band from the 80's has recorded many psychedelic masterpieces over the years such as "Wall of Orchids" and "The Return of Noel Coward's Ghost", as well as collaborations with R. Stevie Moore, most notably "Manuscription". His vocals always add a touch of elegance to everything he does. Alex Khodchenko is virtually unknown in the U.S., but has recorded multiple albums of psychedelic sound-scapes in his homeland. Both his love of early psychedelia and his mastery of the studio shine in this collaboration, providing a perfect setting for Steinberg's lyrics and voice, while Lane's talents equally compliment Alex's skills.
