JohninHawaii's Reviews

The Call of Duty: Black Ops III PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will feature Multiplayer and Zombies gameplay only, not Campaign. Multiplayer features a new momentum-based chained movement system, allowing players to fluidly move through the environment with finesse, using controlled thrust jumps, slides, and mantling. Black Ops III multiplayer also introduces the new Specialist character system, which allows players to master 9 characters' battle-hardened weapons and abilities through a challenge-based unlock progression system. No Treyarch title would be complete without its signature Zombies offering. "Shadows of Evil" has its own distinct storyline right out of the box, set in the fictional 1940s Morg City, where four particularly troubled individuals — the femme fatale, the magician, the detective, and the boxer — star in this film-noir inspired horror story.

Spiritual Successor to Black Ops I

I was hesitant to buy this game due to all the negative reviews regarding the graphics and lack of campaign mode. I am so glad I got it anyway as it has been a fun and addicting ride ever since. It's actually better than Advanced Warfare. The map rotations are superb unlike AW where I hardly saw much of the maps in all my months of online multiplayer. I even have the first DLC for AW but this game seems to have more maps right out of the box.
Do yourself a favor, get this game. It reminds me of the first Black Ops complete with the graphics style and sound. No, it is not sharp and clear like Black Ops II but the gameplay is very well done. The Pick 10 system is great and there are no overpowered weapons that you cannot get like in AW. You gain the weapons through leveling up in ranking and earning tokens. Because it involves tokens you have to make a decision what weapons and specialist you will choose. But I love the strategy of it all. I haven't had so much fun since Black Ops I.
If you don't have a PS4 or do not want to pay for online gaming, this is the only way to go. This is the last good COD on the PS3 and the last opportunity to play COD multiplayer without having to pay for PlayStation Plus or Xbox Gold.
I would recommend this to a friend!

For The Snipers

I really wanted to like this game as I loved all other Call of Duty games especially Black Ops and Black Ops II. I wasn't expecting it to be better than those games as this game was made by the "other" Call of Duty game designers. Given that Modern Warfare 3 was not so great, I wasn't expecting an exceptional follow-up.
The maps in this game are too big for its own good. It is a sniper's heaven. One thing about this game is that you will get shot in the back a lot. Expect to die at least twice in the back. You could watch your back more often but that leads you to, yes, getting shot from the front. If that sounds comical, it is in some ways. But that will get your blood curdling after the umpteenth time.
I expect this game to go the way of Modern Warfare 3. It won't sell nowhere close to the Black Ops series. I think a lot of players enjoy run-and-gun type of shooting. That's what made Black Ops so popular albeit totally unrealistic to real military combat. But then video games are nowhere near real military combat. That's why we have 13-year old boys talking smack all over the place. Hand them a real rifle and they won't last a day in a real gun battle. In fact, a show did give a Call of Duty fan a rifle and he promptly cried as the butt of the rifle hit his face upon recoil.
What's great about it: Sniping
What's not so great: Getting shot in the back frequently and respawning in fromt of opponents

Not the same album that has the demos

I was really disappointed when I received this album. It is not the same album that I was looking for. Unfortunately, Best Buy's description did not list the tracks in this collection. This album looks similar and has the same title as the one I actually wanted and is shown with the same cover. That one has 22 tracks and has the demos that I bought this for.
What's great about it: Quiet Riot
What's not so great: Only 11 tracks

Xbox Live Gold vs Playstation Network
on January 27, 2013

I used to have Xbox Live Gold until I realized that I played with my Playstation 3 more than the Xbox 360. For one thing, I found that Playstation Network is just as good. I have played Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 on both networks and found no difference. Because I like the Sony games more than I like the Microsoft games I spent more time on the Playstation Network. My Xbox 360 doesn't get much use so I wasted all that money on Xbox Live Gold. The fact that you have to pay to play on the Xbox 360 is just downright wrong. They even have ads on their console so it's not like they are not making any money. I don't have to pay a penny to play on the Playstation Network. And it is just as good. I have stuck with Playstation Network and haven't looked back since. If you are a parent, you should consider this: It costs 60 bucks a year for Xbox Live Gold. If your kid uses it for five years, you will have spent 300 bucks just for the toll. Five years on Playstation Network on the other hand is FREE.

Poor Excuse for a "Deluxe Edition"

I got this movie thinking that it was the other movie that was released on dvd the same year. Shame on Warner Brothers for releasing this movie on the same year as the feature movie. It is basically the same movie that was shown in 1972 on television. This video can be watched for free through an established streaming web site that is free to everyone. The movie itself has not aged well as the picture quality is just as washed out and outdated as ever. The plot is very basic and can be summed up in a few sentences. The movie itself is only approximately twenty five minutes. The special features are two trailers for their other outdated Dr. Seuss short films and a boring story on the trees. I saw this movie on television years ago as a child and it is as boring as it was. Further, this dvd is filled with commercials for their other products. This product is obviously an attempt to take advantage of the feature film that is being released on dvd at the same time but it is nowhere near the caliber of the feature film. There is a lesson to be learned from this short film but it can be had from other better made movies. Save your money and just watch it online for free. The biggest lesson here is to be careful when buying movies or you could be had by companies that are trying to scam you into buying something that is not worth your money. How ironic that The Lorax which is about big consumerism which is the problem with this product itself. The short film is already available for free and on other media so why waste paper and other resources to re-do a short film that turned out to be a waste of money and resources?

Battlefield 4 is the genre-defining action blockbuster made from moments that blur the line between game and glory. Fueled by the next-generation power and fidelity of the Frostbite 3 engine, Battlefield 4 provides a visceral, dramatic experience unlike any other.Only in Battlefield can you change the landscape in real-time with interactive environments that react to your every move. Only in Battlefield will you lead an assault from the back of a gun boat. Battlefield grants you the freedom to do more and be more while playing to your strengths and carving your own path to victory. In addition to its hallmark multiplayer, Battlefield 4 features an intense, dramatic character-driven campaign that starts with the evacuation of American VIPs from Shanghai and follows your squad's struggle to find its way home. There is no comparison. Immerse yourself in the glorious chaos of all-out war, found only in Battlefield.

Amazing Visuals, Just TERRIBLE gameplay on PS3
By onebadmarine from Seattle, WA
The final straw was during one round of Team Deathmatch, I managed to go 3-21 even though on all 21 of my deaths, I got multiple hits on the enemy before they fired their first shot. On one occasion during this round, I fired three 7.62mm rounds, all of which hit the guy in the chest (I know because blood sprayed off of him as he was hit) and he managed to fire back at me from 10 feet away with a sniper rifle, get a head shot and kill me. And when it showed the kill cam, his health was miraculously at 100%. The Battlefield series has seemed to place all of it's stock in audio/visuals, with no emphasis whatsoever on the reality of gameplay. I was a Marine for 7 years, and this game is NOTHING like the real thing. In real life when you get shot 4 times, you don't just keep running around at full speed and stab guys while your arms are blown off.

I really agree with this review
January 4, 2015
It is also the same with COD. I often will hit an enemy a couple of times point blank and he would be able to run to me from ten feet away and stab me to death. COD and BF should make it so that if you are hit a couple times you should either be slowed down dramatically or down.

Dont buy this game
By okhrspwr from Oklahoma
I absolutely loved Battlefield 3 and still think it was the greatest game ever made, mainly for the vehicle warfare. I was hoping for a bigger better version of BF3 but THIS IS NOT THAT. The game crashes constantly, the sound crashes or some sounds do not work. They took out a lot of the cool features of BF3 like, forming a lobby and grouping up with friends BEFORE joining a game so you can join together and be on the same team. Then you spend 3-4 games trying to get on the same team with your friends and the game crashes and you start all over. The dog tag progression is gone and you do not earn them you are given them at random for leveling up. The load outs for vehicles is totally different like the IFV gunner having a SOFLAM to laser designate targets but the driver does not have a guided shell. The "Levolution" they are so proud of causes frame rate drop, lag and, game crashes. The counter measures for ALL vehicles take forever to regenerate and they have added about 6 new lock on weapons for infantry so EVERYONE has one. There is no below radar anymore so helicopters can no longer dive low to avoid being locked onto or to escape while waiting for counter measures to regenerate, You do not know when to use your counter measures because the sound it makes when the weapon is fired at your vehicle lags behind, goes out or does not work at all. Enemies no longer have to put C4 on your tank to destroy it ,they can throw it from 6 ft away and it sticks and 1 pack destroys your tank or leaves it immobile so you can get some more. It now takes longer to get in and out of vehicles so, there is no getting away before it explodes. Destroying mines now leaves giant craters in the ground making it harder for vehicles to navigate therefore giving greater advantage to infantry. If you played BF3 you will spend at least 20 hrs getting use to the new vehicle controls and setting it to "veteran" controls does not make it like it was in BF3. Many BF3 pilots wont even fly the jets because the controls make no sense in the jets. Helicopters can now take a direct hit from an armored piercing tank shell and it knocks them off balance usually sending them crashing into something killing everyone on board but all you get credit for is disabling a vehicle because it was the ground that destroyed the vehicle and killed the people on board. But, an attack chopper can destroy a tank or AA tank in 1 pass easily (no skill required). There are no private servers to rent or any admins in servers so you have people from all over the world playing in other regions servers trying to get a lag advantage, no team balancing, no more high ticket hour long games, no recourse about punks on your own team stealing your vehicle while you get out to repair it or jumping out of a moving vehicle on purpose and it running you over and killing you. No choosing your own map rotation like BF3. If you want to drive tanks or fly helicopters, too bad you are gonna have to play run and gun maps like operation metro every 4th map anyway or 2 maps that do not have a tank or attack chopper before you get to one that does. The vehicles take forever to respawn. If you are lucky enough to get 3-5 kills before you die you will wait forever and if you are lucky enough to do it again you might be able to go 10-2 K/D ratio before the game ends or freezes up but good luck with that.

A good review from someone who obviously played it
January 4, 2015
Thank you for your post as I have decided not to purchase this obviously bad game. I have read too many bad experiences with game company and will likely never purchase any game from them. The fact that they charge used game buyers to pay for the online portion and then not even monitor their servers is pretty bad. Also, Activision does not charge to play on online when purchased used. That goodwill gesture has and will keep me a COD player.

Fantastic product, amazing technology
By akitaman1958 from cincinnati oh
I purchased this for my roommate/landlord in lieu of rent, so my opinions are not based on my personal expectations. If you are a person with your music library on your smartphone/computer/in-the-cloud and have space issues like living in a dorm, studio apartment, RV, or for a bedroom or office; I cannot imagine a better product for listening to music. She downloaded the app onto her Android tablet effortlessly and within 3 minutes was scouring the WORLD of internet radio. The load time between stations is 1-2 seconds. The menu is nicely formatted but having only 6 pre-sets seems stingy. She activated bluetooth on her chromebook in seconds giving her 2 options to use. The remote is very small. Not having any way of changing the bass/treble does not get in the way of having deeply rich sound coming from a device the size of a shoe box. The bass and mid-range are very strong, I would say it is missing some clarity at the higher end of the register. The main weakness of the sound is lack of separation: the speakers are about 12" apart and there is simply no way to get true stereo separation from them. Pairing the Soundwave4 with a bluetooth speaker would be a major improvement. The headphone jack is on the back and you have to push all the way in and then pull back slightly but the sound you get is great. Her Koss 'phones and my Bose's sounded so much better than when plugged into our computers, if you listen to most of your music thru 'phones you will love this. Some of the other reviews I have read, here at BB and elsewhere, complained that $600 was pricey. I agree to this extent: for someone who is looking for an all-in-one device because of space considerations I cannot imagine a better purchase, especially if you use your smartphone/computer as your source for music primarily. If you have enough space (the equivalent of a coffee table) and are not using your tablet/smartphone/computer as your source you can get better sound for the same $600 with what I have: a Grace Digital internet radio tuner, a Blu ray player for CD's and a Sony center-channel 4K HDMI pass-thru 2.1 speaker (or a nice pair of Bose bookshelf speakers would do nicely too, paired with a small receiver). The speaker separation just makes the sound markedly better, in my opinion. Bottom line: she is very happy with her purchase and I think anyone how buys this little marvel of technology will be as well.

Star rating do not match actual review
April 16, 2017
I like that you were descriptive in your review about why you like the Bose SoundTouch Wave System. But given all the minuses that you have mentioned, shouldn't it be less than a full five star review. From looking at your review, it really should be four at the most. I own the previous model of Wave System and I find the same issues regarding the lack of stereo separation. The system also has a major con for me in that it lacks a clear high end and the lack of an equalizer is a big con, too. I don't think that an equalizer would solve the lack of high end as it is limited to the speakers used. But I think an equalizer would enable users to personalize the sound.
