After KISS tried to find success with following the 80's rock trends between '85-'89, but it was obvious this wasn't working. After tragically losing drummer Eric Carr, KISS brought in veteran rock drummer Eric Singer and used the songwriting talents of former band mate Vinnie Vincent. KISS shows they mean business on this album; starting with the borderline thrash metal track "Unholy." Most of this album is raw hard rock, with only two ballads, albeit good ones. The best tracks besides "Unholy" are "Take it Off," "Spit," and "I Just Wanna." Guitarist Bruce Kulick really shines on this album and Vinnie's writing picks up where he left off with the band. If you are skeptical about the "non-makeup" KISS, this may be the album to get.

What's great about it: Back to hard rock and metal, Vinnie Vincent writing

In 1983, KISS took off their makeup for the first time, and released this album simultaneously. After turning to metal with Creatures of the Night, KISS picked up guitarist Vinnie Vincent as a full member of the band. Vinnie wrote or co-wrote 8 of the 10 songs on this album, and he does a very good job. The album basically picks up where Creatures left off, although this one experiments more with hair metal. The first three tracks are fantastic, as well as "All Hell's Breakin' Loose." The track "Lick it Up" has become one of KISS's signature songs and they perform it to this day. Overall, this is one of the band's most solid efforts, and shows KISS was really trying to transform their image. Fans of the original KISS lineup may not like the 80's rock and glam metal sound, but it is worth a listen. This album is probably KISS's best attempt at a comeback in their 40-year history.

What's great about it: New heavier sound, Vinnie Vincent's writing and guitar playing
What's not so great: Experimenting with hair metal could turn off fans of the "old KISS."

KISS tried as hard as they could to appeal to more crowds on this album, and some of it came out horribly. After they turned to disco on their previous album Dynasty, KISS took it another step further. This time they expanded into pop. There is little evidence of KISS's signature rock sound here; only pop rock and disco. The album's hit "Shandi" is a cheesy disco song, while most of the other songs are decent. Ace Frehley delivers three catchy tunes, especially "Talk to Me." The other two catchy songs on the album are "Is That You?" and "She's So European." Most of the album is good musically, but doesn't really sound like a KISS album. Also, Peter Criss did not play on it despite being on the cover, but Anton Fig filled in again. Overall, this album is decent, but it strayed too far away from KISS's roots.
My Best Buy number: 2226843430
What's great about it: Some catchy tunes, Ace Frehley's songs
What's not so great: KISS's turn to pop and disco, no Peter Criss on the album

Dynasty was a new direction for KISS. It went platinum, but many of the original fans were turned off. This is due to their experimentation with disco on this album. It is most prominent on the two big hits: "I Was Made for Loving You" and "Sure Know Something." Peter Criss's one and only track "Dirty Livin'" also has a disco vibe. The best songs might be Ace Frehley's trifecta, notably his cover of the Rolling Stones' "2,000 Man." Also to note is that Peter Criss only played on his own track, but session drummer Anton Fig played the rest of the album. Overall, this is a solid album. There is nothing cringe worthy here even though it has a disco feel. It's not KISS's best, but one to enjoy nonetheless.
What's great about it: Ace Frehley's tracks, fusion of rock and disco
What's not so great: A couple of cheesy songs, Peter Criss only plays on one song

Ace Frehley is probably considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time, and his contributions to KISS have become legendary. When KISS set out to make four solo albums, they were of course compared and rated upon release. The "shocker" of the bunch was Ace Frehley, who was using his vocal talents on only the second album ever, and eventually the album would sell more copies than the other three. The album is mostly hard rock with a slower instrumental song called "Fractured Mirror." The music is a little heavier than most of KISS's material, which isn't a bad thing, and Ace Frehley proves to be a great rock singer. The best tracks are probably "Rip it Out," Speedin' Back to My Baby," and the famous rendition of "New York Groove." If you're a KISS fan or just curious about Ace Frehley, I can almost guarantee Ace will become one of your new favorites. It's a very raw, no gimmicks, unadulterated rock album that deserves more attention.
What's great about it: Great music from a great artist
What's not so great: A little overpriced compared to other KISS albums
This was the first Aerosmith CD I bought so I could have all the old hits. I enjoyed it for a while, but when I became more of a die-hard Aerosmith fan I discovered that the versions of Sweet Emotion, Same Old Song and Dance, and Kings and Queens are shortened versions that were probably originally released to radio stations to cut playing time. The rest are all pretty good, especially Come Together, which is a unique addition that Aerosmith fans will enjoy. The biggest oddball is Remember, which came off of Night in the Ruts, the album where Joe Perry left the band part of the way through. It seems kind of thrown together, probably because it was just released by Columbia in 1980 to milk more money out of the band's contract, which has worked very well. Overall, it's an okay summary of the old hits, but not the best. For the record, The Essential: Aerosmith is a much better, more extensive collection. Still something an Aerosmith collector should have.
What's great about it: Most of the 70's hits are here
What's not so great: Some of the songs are shortened versions
This is tied as my favorite Aerosmith album with Toys in the Attic. This is easily one of the greatest rock albums ever made. This is one of the highlights of Aerosmith's career, released in 1976 as a follow up to the awesome Toys in the Attic album. This is definitely their heaviest rocking album overall, with Back in the Saddle, Rats in the Cellar, Sick As a Dog, and Nobody's Fault firing on all cylinders. However, there is still the signature hard rock sound and power ballads captured in Toys In the Attic on here. The biggest hits on it are Back in the Saddle and Last Child, but many of the largely unknown songs are just amazing. If you want to hear Aerosmith's best in their heyday, buy this and Toys In the Attic.
What's great about it: Every song is enjoyable, good price
This is probably tied as Aerosmith's best album with Rocks. Overall, this is one of the greatest rock albums ever recorded. This was probably part of the peak of Aerosmith's career, released in 1975. The original versions of Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion are the feature presentations of this album, as well as the hits Toys In the Attic and Big Ten Inch Record. Even though this album has Aerosmith's signature hard-rocking style on most of the tracks, there are traces of both emotional power ballads and early heavy metal in it. If you want to hear the true essence of Aerosmith in their heyday, buy this album and Rocks.
What's great about it: Great price, many good popular songs

To be blunt, $100 is a bit ridiculous for a 500GB hard drive these days. All PS3's come with the bracket to put in a new hard drive so RocketFish is just trying to squeeze money out of you with this one. Also it is only 5400RPM, which is not even the fastest speed for what you are paying. If you want a really good hard drive for your PS3 check out Western DIgital's Scorpio Black line.

5400 RPM
December 8, 2013
Why does the RPM even matter here? The PS3 will only utilize it at 5400 RPM anyway, so buying something like a 7200 RPM hard drive would be useless.
