"John Carter," adapted from the classic Edgar Rice Burroughs tale, has become one of my all-time favorite movies. Writer/director Andrew Stanton ("Finding Nemo," "Toy Story 3") has put the exciting and emotionally charged story front and center. The special effects are superb but serve that story, rather than the other way around as in so many other films. The actors, both leads and the supporting cast, are charismatic. "John Carter" reveals a world to which you will want to return many times. First the film draws you with its great heart, and repeated viewings reward you with its depth.
What's great about it: The original space opera that inspired Star Wars, Superman, and Avatar
