This film follows the tradition of Golden Harvest's "Encounters of the Spooky Kind. Huge Hong Kong film in the 80s and this film capitalizes on the film's concept.
As far as this film, it's a must-see for any kung-fu fanatic like me. It's action choreography is fast pasted and hard-hitting; for a low- budget film, I am dumbfounded. Choreographed by Dang Tak Cheung who's credited in films such as: Jackie Chan's "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star & Shaw Brothers' "Shaolin Abbot".
This film is a little outlandish over all but the action overrides it.
So, in all, it's a kung-fu comedy that's worth a look.
Now for Millcreek's version:
It's presented in a widescreen format (1:78.1 ratio). (Not the original aspect ratio of the film)
It's from a VHS source. Nonetheless, it's still worthy for the price.
This collection includes five Asian action movies that feature combative revolution, secret agent missions and a bodyguard looking to end widespread corruption . The films featured in this compilation include: Born to Defense (starring Jet Li), The Legend II (starring Li), The Defender (starring Li and Christy Cheung), Once Upon a Time in China & America (starring Li and Rosamund Kwan) and From Beijing with Love (starring Stephen Chow and Anita Yuen).
I purchased these films for Jet Li. I have never seen these films: Born to Defense, The Legend 2, The Defender, Once Upon a Time In China & America.
Now for The Legend of Fong Sai Yuk 2. I have the Dragon Dynasty The Legend pt. 1 which is amazing but never seen pt. 2. And let me tell you, pt. 2 can compare to pt. 1 easily.
Once Upon a Time in China and America is the fourth and final movie from the quadruple set series and I like this one due to its fight sequences in this film. So now, I have all four movies in my collection.
Born to Defense: not much of a fan of army films but this is much, much, more. The fight scene are NO JOKE! Not to be missed!
The Defender: The Bodyguard from Beijing. All I can say is: I am glad I have this in my collection. And the last fight scene with Jet Li and Collin Chou (Flashpoint, Forbidden Kingdom) is not to be missed!
Lastly, From Beijing with Love. Stephen Chow (Kung-Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer) not my kind of humorous guy but as I was watching the film, his take on the "007" was kind of funny. I actually enjoyed the film.
Now what I really like about these films are the original dubs (not Fortune Star re-dubs) THANK GOODNESS! Also, these films are remastered as well. Dude, you can't beat that!
This hard hitting release for fans of martial arts action films includes four classics, The Fate of Lee Khan, Shaolin Boxer, The Young Dragons, and The Shaolin Plot.
