The flexible, molded EVA construction of this Celestron NexStar 94004 rolling hard shell case helps protect your Celestron NexStar 8 telescope or 9.25"/11" SCT/EdgeHD optical tube on the go. The storage pocket provides ample room for accessories.

A nice Celestron-branded case w/a few compromises

I received Celestron's recently introduced 94004 case today from Best Buy and have to say, it's a good looking (albeit large) case. When I placed my order via BestBuy.com, I was given a two to three day delivery estimate and was pleased to receive my order in two days (though, feedback to Best Buy, it would've been nice to receive the e-mailed shipping notice *before* the big and obviously-labeled "Celestron" box was surreptitiously left on my exposed front porch by UPS).
My first impressions of the case are largely positive. The handle and wheels appear solidly made, there's plenty of padding and, if you're a fan of Celestron's branding and colors, you'll certainly be showing off your brand loyalty. I also appreciate that the case appears to have been designed specifically with the Nexstar 8SE OTA & mount in mind (though it also supports 9.25" and 11" OTAs w/o mounts), has additional built in storage in the lid (where I already have my solar filter safely stored in it's own box), weighs approximately half what the 302070 case weighs, and doesn't require any case customization (i.e. cutting of foam). The 302070 case does have "heavy duty features" this case doesn't have though (e.g. a water/airtight o-ring seal, dust/chemical/corrosion protection, high impact, etc).
My only reservations (size aside, as I'm used to transporting my OTA/mount sans case, so the size was initially off-putting) are that the main zipper seems a bit light-duty (i.e. it's plastic and required some 'finessing' to zip closed the first time), the 8SE and mount won't fit in the case without first removing the star diagonal (which required that I search for the visual back's dust cap, which I hadn't used since first receiving my scope almost a year ago), and the slight pressure on the star pointer may end up requiring it to be occasionally recalibrated (which, to be honest, it already does, as the slightest tap seems to affect it's alignment).
All in all though, I think Celestron's done a nice job on their 94004 case – especially if you're a Nexstar 8SE owner – and am looking forward to field testing it soon!
What's great about it: Stylish, designed specifically f/8SE, added storage
What's not so great: Large, slight pressure on star pointer, [seemingly]light duty zipper, requires star diagonal removal
I would recommend this to a friend!
