Old TV with new Blu Ray
Can you hook up a Blu Ray player to an old TV? Will a new Surround Sound work on an old TV?
I guess the answer (you won't like) is: It depends. What input signal does your TV support? - HDMI has been out for around 10 years, but if your TV is older than that you may want to choose a Bluray player that comes with additional output options, such as regular RCA (Composite video plus stereo audio). Worst case is that you would need a video down-converter that would, for example, downgrade an HDMI signal to Coax/Antenna quality (480i). Do know, though, that only HDMI provides HD and 4K quality video. Anything else downgrades to 480i. Does this all makes sense to you? - Now with respect to the soundbar, as long as your old TV has an optical out (Toslink) or RCA Stereo out, this soundbar should work fine. You would need to manually turn on/off the soundbar with the remote, though (i.e., the soundbar does not automatically turn on/off with the TV). If you go RCA stereo, you would need to get a 3.5mm-to-RCA Stereo adapter to make it work with the soundbar.
