The Movie Is Fun! The Toy Is Not :/
on January 16, 2016

Bought the gift set and was excited about the Squishy Blobby Toy—thinking it would actually be something in consistency like a "stick hand" toy. Upon arriving & I held the toy in my hand, I was sadly disappointed. It wasn't more squishy than a dog's firm chew toy ...not so fun :/
On the other hand, Hotel Transylvania 2 is worth adding to any kid's or family movie collection. The movie is fun to watch!

Throwbacks, Action, Humor & Special Effects...
on January 8, 2016
Posted by: Jess
"The Mother of Dragons" (Emilia Clarke) makes her way into Terminator Genisys as Sarah Connor, brining with her a similar strength & initiative. "Jack McClane, Jr" (Jai Courtney) as Kyle Reese serves well alongside her. So, casting was good and performances were more than fair (though J.K. Simmons' character, Det. O'Brien, felt unnecessary and random).
Terminator Genisys plays off the premiss that the resistance and Skynet have sent their selected protector and terminator many more times since T1 & T2, in their battle to overcome the other for eternal dominance. The going back in time, time after again, has altered timelines. Yet, somehow just enough of the time differences are remembered—giving way for one final scenario and timeline to reach an end, where Skynet is no longer a threat to humanity. In retrospect, viewers may get lost in the time sequences but the logic is sound if you can follow it.
Genisys barrels through the middle of the franchise and makes it's place on the timeline just after T2: Judgement Day—storming in like the machines it portrays, terminating T3: Rise of the Machines and Terminator Salvation as none existent. Unlike T1 & T2, Genisys squanders the likelihood of the Terminator series from moving forward with any other films. This, in essence, has brought the timeline/storyline to a final conclusion, where most likely fans had hoped that Genisys would have become the springboard for another film(s).
On the other hand, T3 is the weakest film of them all. So, the interposition by Genisys isn't as emotionally disruptive as it could otherwise be for fans. Nonetheless, it's probably not what hardcore fanboys would have wanted or expected. Then there's Terminator Salvation, which is so stylistically different from the first 3 films that it works just fine as an independent film on an alternate timeline.
Finally, Genisys brings the character twists between T1 & T2 (between protagonist & antagonist) full circle—and I'll leave it at that, as to not further spoil the movie ;-) The movie flows with humor, too …though one particular scene was reminiscent of an attempt to mimic a Guardians of the Galaxy segment, but was so completely out of character for the Terminator series that the attempted humor fell flat and awkward.
So, even though Terminator Genisys doesn't fully meet expectations, it does wrap up the series in a fairly decent manner. And if you're wondering if you have to watch T1 & T2 to follow Genisys, "no." The movie does a pretty good job to reference its origins through dialogue. But don't get me wrong, Genisys was still fun to watch with plenty of throwbacks, action, humor & special effects to entertain viewers.

Leaves you with so much to talk about...!

The character's in INSIDE OUT that represent different emotions (Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, & Disgust) are cute and well personified in this Disney's Pixar film. The studio does indeed embark into newer territory for a kid's movie, telling a simple story of childhood challenges with all the complexities of adolescences. INSIDE OUT does a great job mapping out the interlacing characteristics of emotion, personality, & cerebral functions/memory. They go even further to masterfully balance that display with the dynamics of LIFE and the environment in which the main character, Riley, lives in — achieving a visualization that "life is delicate and complex. Each segment affects the others; each decision and experience rattles the pieces and can imperil the whole. [...] Riley is, in one sense, fighting a battle we know she will lose: the battle for Joy to rule all things forever. But in another sense, her destination — the moment at which the story is aching to arrive — is balance, even if it's a kind of balanced chaos" (Linda Holmes, WHY THE KEY CHARACTER IN 'INSIDE OUT' IS THE ONE WHO ISN'T THERE).
*On a side note (something perhaps NOT everyone may have picked up on is): INSIDE OUT, with all it's intricacy, also displays a navigation through gender identity and shows a normalcy for young children to exhibit both feminine & masculine characteristics growing up. The character's name, to start with (Riley) is gender neutral. However, the movie depicts Riley as a girl but whom also likes to play a prominently guy's sport of hockey. Riley's wardrobe reflects the same neutral disposition. We also see that the personified emotional characters are a 2:3 ratio — 2 male emotional characters (Anger & Fear) with 3 female emotional characters (Joy, Sadness, & Disgust). Whereas, the mother's emotional characters are all clearly depicted as female and the father's emotional characters are all clearly depicted as male. One could argue, Riley is the epitome of a progressive society toward gender equality, exploration & acceptance. But from a feminist point of view, the designation of gender-to-emotional characters-to-human characters (did you get that?) has a hegemonic masculinity overtone that stems from a domineering patriarchal society. All this to say (whether you agree or not), it's just another topic added to an already elaborate discussion about INSIDE OUT.
Phew!!! Now, is your brain ticking, twitching, itching and/or racing?! Well, I'll now wrap-up my review with... This movie packs in a lot within 1 hr 42 mins that can cause discussion among adult viewers to carry on for much longer—the film could even be used in adult education courses for students to write various papers from many points of views: psychology, science, child development, etc. With that said, this kid's movie may not really be one for all kid's to watch ...not because there's anything wrong w/it but rather they may loose focus to follow the storyline & end up confused about what it all means or what's going on ...just as the 2 yr old next to me in the theater blurted out to his mommy, "it's too long!" while only 10-15 minutes into the movie.
I'd recommend this for an audience of 4+ years old.

Nightfall Was A Downfall From Hopes & Expectations
on March 23, 2015

I love sci-fi and like the Halo games but this movie was not a good reflection of the Halo series in style or essence. The cast hardly had any-to-no acting skills. The greatest tragedy of this movie was in the screen writing/the script! The dialogue was so cheesy it became distracting, they used a lot of cliches, scenarios were predicable or illogical (some went against itself) and the story was just drawn out. The trailers gave a false sense of hope and built up great expectations that were met with huge disappointments. I almost couldn't finish watching this movie, but I did.

Decent Action But Mostly Cheesy Overall
on March 23, 2015

The Prince of Persia game character has great entertainment value but Disney pretty much messed up it's attempt to turn the game into a great movie or for sub-subsequent titles to come. The action was decent but the the overall movie was cheesy: Jake Gyllenhaal should never again have or wear long hair as he did in this movie, many of the sets (even with their CGI surroundings) actually looked like sets in a studio warehouse (disassembling the believably of this story), and some of the special effects lacked the quality and luster to make this an excellent film. I would go as far as to say that The Prince of Persia movie is about as visually entertaining and portrays a quality similar to or less than Disney's John Carter.

Angelina Jolie Is Perfectly Casted As Lara Croft
on March 23, 2015

The Tomb Raider games were one of my favorites growing up and this movie is a nice rendition of those. Angelina Jolie is perfectly casted as Lara Croft and brings forth the skills in performance (including doing her own stunts) and looks to pull-off the game based character for this movie.

This newest version of Rayman continues with adventure and fun. If you're one who wants to get 100% completion, then know that some segments are quite difficult to do that and move forward to the next hidden/bonus levels. So, be prepared to be challenged yet entertained for hours!

ALMOST More Fun Than Tekken!
on March 23, 2015
Posted by: Jess
I love the Tekken games but when I received All-Stars Battle Royale for my birthday, I was skeptical whether I'd like it. But after 1 battle round with my brother, I loved it and found it ALMOST more fun than Tekken! ...almost :) The blend/mix of characters and battle grounds to choose from other based games (such as God of War, Metal Gear, Twisted Metal, Sly Cooper, Jack & Dexter, etc) is what makes All-Stars Battle Royale entertaining.

CAN I UPGRADE MY PHONE FROM A FLIP PHONE AND USE THE SAME NUMBER?

Yes, I did exactly that. I had a flip phone which I directly switched from and kept the same phone number. As a Virgin Mobile user, the set up & keeping the previous number with the new phone is easily done online through your personal Virgin Mobile account. Simply follow the provided instructions. However, help is also available by contacting your service carrier(s) directly.
