32GB memory doesn't make up for the poor display.

Specs of this model look good on paper, however it uses a low quality TN display with poor contrast and viewing angles, which is pretty bad for a laptop already in this price bracket I would say.
Don't let the 32GB memory draw you in. Most of the time you won't need that much and won't notice having that much, and most laptops can be DIY-upgraded to either 16GB/24GB/32GB anyway if absolutely necessary.
The Inspiron 7567 base model has a poor display too, though the next-up one has a good display and also an SSD and a better GPU for gaming (GTX 1050 Ti is much better than a 960M). Prices vary though sometimes it's with $100 of the price of this MSI. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-inspiron-15-6-laptop-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-256gb-solid-state-drive-black/5872507.p

Screen should be better for $800

The GTX 1050 and GTX 1050 Ti are pretty much this year's go-to GPUs for this price bracket. However, I would not consider the Dell Inspiron 7000 Gaming (7567) to be the go-to laptop in order to get a GTX 1050. It uses a very low quality display compared to other GTX 1050 laptops, last year's Inspiron Gaming model, and other $800+ laptops in general. A common consensus on the Reddit SuggestALaptop sub is that it is only worth purchasing if you are going to replace the screen yourself.
Attached is a photo comparing it to the HP Omen 15, which uses a display similar to last year's model.

Forget the Core i7. Avoid 1366x768.
on January 12, 2017

from NC
The Display
- The 1366x768 resolution doesn't let you fit much onscreen, and in a 15.6" display it makes everything onscreen rather large. A lot of laptops offer 1920x1080-resolution IPS displays, which are less limiting as well as have immensely-better picture quality. This kind of a display difference I think will affect you a whole lot more than the differences between most other specs. My attached image compares screen realestate on 1366x768 versus 1920x1080, using the start menu.
The Processor
- This laptop might sound like a good value because it has a Core i7 at a lower than average price. But most normal computer use isn't affected by the differences between most processors, i3/i5/i7/whatever. And even if you do need CPU performance for something like video editing, you need a quad-core CPU. This is a dual-core CPU, it just happens to share the Core i7 branding with the others.
The GPU ("graphics card")
- Look up benchmarks online and you'll find that NVIDIA GT 920MX isn't much better than the Intel HD 620 that comes built into all 7th gen Intel GPUs, and in some cases is worse. If you're not gaming, you probably don't need a dedicated GPU. And if you do need a dedicated GPU, you probably need a better one than this. The 920X is just as good as not even having a dedicated GPU.
Overall, not a good value, in my opinion. Get a good display before you worry about the other stuff, you'll notice it more. My recommendation is to buy one of these instead. All have 1920x1080 IPS displays with touch.

The 1366x768 display kills it.

This is a business-grade laptop and had potential to be a decent choice for general because of that, but I cannot recommend it because it uses 1366x768 TN display in a price range where it's more than easy to find something with a much better display.
The 1366x768 TN display doesn't let you fit much onscreen, makes everything onscreen rather large, and has very poor viewing angles + contrast + colors. It's literally just about the worst display you can find in a laptop in this price range. Other laptops, including business-grade ones, are available with 1920x1080 IPS display that let you fit more onscreen and have IMMENSELY better picture quality, and that kind of a difference between displays tends to affect how nice a computer is to use a whole lot more than the differences between most other specs.
$500 laptops are available nowadays with 15.6" 1920x1080 IPS displays, and there's no excuse for this laptop not to include one. Either look for a Latitude model with the 1920x1080 IPS display, or buy from a different product line entirely.

The Thinkpad T560 has potential to be an awesome choice due to its business-grade build quality, however the particular configuration being sold on this listing I cannot recommend because it has the base option 1366x768 TN display.

At this price, get an Acer E with 1920x1080

The 1366x768 resolution doesn't let you fit much onscreen, and such a large screen it makes everything onscreen rather large. Even if you don't think the display is the most important thing, the display actually tends to make a lot more of a difference than most other specs for how nice a computer is to use. This is in price territory where 1920x1080 starts to become an option, and I think it's one of the most important things to get in a new laptop in 2016/2017.
Numerous options at this price with 1920x1080 15.6" displays exist, but the IdeaPad 310 is behind the times.

Not a real 4K 3840x2160 screen like the Dell XPS.
on December 20, 2016
Posted by: edit1754

The specs of this laptop sound nice, however what I didn't know at first about it was that the display isn't actually a real 4K.
This display uses a dot pattern called "RG/BW Pentile", which is a deceptive trick manufacturers sometimes use to produce a cheaper less-sharp display that can still be sold as a particular resolution. It doesn't actually have 3840x2160 individual full pixels like the XPS 15's 4K screen, its "pixels" are more like stretched half-pixels. The screen might look compared to older laptop screens, but real 4K screens look much better, and you're not getting what you're being advertised.
If you want a 4K screen, buy the Dell XPS 15, Lenovo Y700 4K, or Lenovo Yoga 710 4K (available here at Best Buy). Don't buy this, because it's not what it says it is.

Fake pentile 4K screen: half the pixels of real 4K
on December 7, 2016
Posted by: edit1754
from NC
This laptop might look attractive on paper, but you are being deceived on one of its biggest selling points.
This laptop advertises a screen resolution of 4K UHD 3840x2160, but that isn't a complete truth. It's using what's called the RG/BW Pentile matrix, a cheap trick to achieve the ability to advertise as 3840x2160, without actually achieving the full detail of the resolution itself. A web search will tell you more about this, but that basically means even though the screen makes your computer render this resolution, your screen can't display all of that detail, because it's missing half of its pixels.
Lots of reviews talk about how nice the display is. Does it look nice? Sure. But here's some context: Most people buying new laptops today will be coming from the previous generations of laptops that almost all had very low quality 1366x768 TN displays. From those displays, yes, this is a huge upgrade, but so are all of the normal 1080p IPS displays you can get in just about any laptop half this price, many of which already score higher on color and contrast than this. Real 4K UHD 3840x2160 resolution is a huge upgrade from THIS display, and it is a disrespect to laptops that do truly achieve 4K (Dell XPS 15, Lenovo Yoga 710, Lenovo Y700, etc), that this one gets to advertise right along side them. It's not close to the tier of real 4K displays, and it's not even as good as the Macbook Pro Retina displays, or the 3K 2880x1620 displays available in some laptops, such as the ASUS UX51vz (an older version of this), Gigabyte P35x, and Lenovo Thinkpad T560.
You might compare this laptop to an alternative and think "Well, the display's not as good, but this one has an i7, 16GB of RAM, and a bigger SSD! The other laptop for this price doesn't have those, and if I want those in the other laptop I have to spend more. This one must be the better deal, right?" First, evaluate what you really need. Most CPUs that come with most of today's laptops are more than enough for what most people do. Same with RAM, but the RAM as well as the SSD are easy to upgrade after-market, whereas you're pretty much stuck with this display: a difference you'll likely notice a lot more in the end.
If you want what this laptop is supposed to be, get the Dell XPS 15 or Lenovo Y700 UHD. Both offer the same GPU, but have honest true 3840x2160 displays. The Dell XPS 15 and Lenovo Y700 UHD are truly worthy choices at this price point, whereas the ASUS UX501 thrives on deceptive advertising. Don't buy it without fully knowing what it is and what it isn't, and always do your research when buying laptops that advertise super-high-resolution displays, because some of them aren't what they say they are.

Display misadvertised; not truly "Quad HD"
on November 12, 2016
Posted by: edit1754
from NC
Don't get me wrong, the display looks good and the phone is good, but the display is being misadvertised.
This specs page claims a resolution of "Quad HD" which means 2560x1440, but it's important to know that this display is RG/BG Pentile, meaning it omits every other red and blue subpixel. It is not truly 2560x1440 because it does not have a grid of 2560x1440 individual fully-colorable square regions (pixels).
Lots of other phones have true-1920x1080 and true-2560x1440 displays, with all three primaries (red, green, and blue) in each pixel, but the Galaxy S4/5/6/7 and Note 3/4/5/7 displays have never been truly 1920x1080 or 2560x1440.
I attached an image showing this difference with the Chrome logo. On the left, a RG/BG "diamond" pentile display with the same "resolution" as the clearer true-RGB display on the right. Notice how only every other "pixel" on the pentile display can contribute to red or blue.

Excellent Gaming PC
By Ezfp from Colorado
I got this Laptop in Late May 2012 and have been using it daily for both school, and gaming. I havent had any problems with the motherboard or with it shutting down for no apparent reason(i maintain it). The only complaint I would have would be the price but it has been proving its value for nearly the past year, and like most high end laptops, they cost some money. I wouldnt recommend this laptop if you didnt have the money for it, but other than that its great.

Can you confirm that the display was 1920x1080 resolution and not 1600x900? If you can't confirm this, can you confirm that the display has a matte/non-glossy finish? (The 1920x1080 display is matte whereas the worse one is glossy).

Great laptop, but annoying bits of it.
By latvianxpert from Shakopee, MN
This is a fantastic laptop, but there's little bits of it that make it worse.
First of all, the hard drive really bottlenecks the speed. When booting up and trying to jump onto my browser or Steam, the hard drive slows the entire system down to the point where I have to wait like 5 minutes before I could actually use it.
Next, the resolution is kind of awkward considering the screen size. 17.3" really should use 1920x1080, not 1600x900.
Then, the battery life. It's pretty bad, since I get only around 4 hours before it has around 20% left (even on battery saver or Dell Recommended).
Finally, the graphics card. The main reason I bought the laptop for for heavy gaming and school, with games like Battlefield 3 and Far Cry 3. The graphics card is amazing, of course, but I constantly have the clock go from the default at 725 to like 150 when I'm in the menus or just randomly in-game. It really hurts my performance, even if I have it on low (even up to maxed!). I can play any game (except Crysis 3 of course) at maxed with like 10-20 frames, so I turn it down a bit.
I'm still using it to date, but I have tried returning it with incorrect information from a Best Buy representative. I walked in store being told I can wait up to 3 months to return it, and if it's past Best Buy's warranty they can send it to Dell. I told this to a representative and he instantly said that's not correct and told me he couldn't do anything about it. Disappointing and enraging.
I don't recommend this laptop because of all my problems with it. It might be just me, but I honestly regret buying it.

Overall, not a good value, in my opinion. Get a good display before you worry about the other stuff, you'll notice it more. My recommendation is to buy one of these instead. All have 1920x1080 IPS displays with touch.

Oh, my mistake! Guess I saw the 7 in 7200U and misread.
Rest of it still applies. And even for the current discounted price ($549) I still think it should include a better display than 1366x768.

Forget the Core i7. Avoid 1366x768.
By edit1754 from NC

Ah yes, just figured out what my source of confusion was. The title of the laptop originally said Core i7 even though the specs listed an i5.

Better displays now

I order this computer the other day through dell because I wanted the next model up.Plus they offer a 10% discount for anyone in the armed forces. It was a no brainer.
I was however concerned about the complaints about the screen. I contacted dell and they confirmed they are now being built with the IPS screen instead of the TN panel. Very excited to get this laptop and very happy with Dells customer service for listening to their customers.

Yeah I'm not sure if this is a misunderstanding on the reps part, if one rep told somebody that, the customer posted it online, then the rest of them found it on Google, or what.
I'm keeping track of these instances in this Reddit post, on the top: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/63pz2u/the_dell_inspiron_7567_tn_panel_facebook_page/

Great laptop for the price.

This laptop is by far the best deal in the whole store. This laptop comes with a gtx 1050 or a gtx 1050ti. And it is a great deal. It has a very nice 1920x1080 that some people call a tn panel but it has great viewing angles and it is just a good looking screen in general. Vert fast and responsive. There is a good amount of bloatware by dell but that is it. I would recommend this laptop to anyone that is looking for good budget gaming.

This version actually has IPS which I think is why you like the display.

Can the screen be upgraded to 4k screen?

Assuming it's possible on this mobo version, you'll need at least:
- 4K panel
- 4K cable
- Likely different lid. The LCD mounting brackets are different I believe.

HP Laptop: Game your way through the day with this HP Pavilion laptop. NVIDIA graphics ensure enjoyable playback without stutter or blurring, and 16GB RAM keeps this computer running smoothly as you multitask between work or entertainment programs. This HP Pavilion laptop comes with a 1TB hard drive that lets you store all of your important documents.

Is this the best gaming laptop under 1.2k? No two in ones they overheat break easly and have no dvd

For gaming, look at the GPU. The GPU (not the CPU not the RAM) is the main thing that makes games run faster. The 960M isn't bad, but you can easily get better, for 1.2k, if your main focus is gaming.

These will give you better game performance:
