Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 18–35mm f/3.5–4.5G ED Ultra-Wide Zoom Lens: Get in close even from a distance with this Nikon ultra-wide zoom lens. Shoot beautiful wide-angle architectural shots, landscapes, group portraits and more; then zoom in for a natural field of view that is slightly wider than what you see with your eyes.

new nikon lenses are on different level...

The lens shows barrel type distortion throughout the whole zoom range. It is very pronounced at the short end of the zoom range and decreases to a lower amount by zooming in. @ 18mm 3.7% barrel @ 21mm 2.1% @28mm 1.7% and @35mm 1.2%
Vignetting is unsurprisingly most pronounced at the shortest focal length and the largest aperture. As usual, stopping down reduces the amount of light fall-off towards the corners, but it remains above half a stop at short focal lengths, even with small apertures. For most subjects, however, this should not be an issue anymore.
Lateral CAs (color shadows at harsh contrast transitions) are well controlled for such a wide lens. The largest amount is visible at the shortest focal length and the largest aperture. Zooming in and stopping down reduces the amount of CAs to lower levels.
In summary, the AF-S 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5 G ED shows a very solid performance (much better than its predecessor), without being really stellar though. However, since it's targeting the consumer market, this is hardly surprising, because an affordable price in this segment counts more than sheer performance. For its price, the Nikkor performs very well.
If you are on the budget consider old Tamron 17-35mm f2.8-4 or prime lens Sigma 20mm f1.8
What's great about it: great for D600
What's not so great: no so much for DX bodys and high end like D4 or D800
I would recommend this to a friend!

fun, fun and more fun with bending lines...
It is great lens for both - full frame body (I used it on 5D) and on crop sensor like 7D, 60D and lower. I did couple pictures with my 7D and actually you can have more use of this lens on crop sensor camera ... I mean if you don't want to have those black corners you can use it from 9mm till 15mm. Reflection are very well managed - I did few pictures with the sun in the frame and pictures are still great. Lens is very sharp and can create very dramatic pictures!
What's great about it: 14-15mm on FF
What's not so great: lens hood and lens cap design...

With 5d3 if setup the 600ex as a slave and 430exII as a master, the 600ex need to set as infared. if you would like to use radio, You'll need another 600ex or ST E3 as a master...
The 5d3 does not have any wireless speedlite triggers built into it...
I will buy this one with new 440EX-RT flash
What's great about it: canon gel holder
What's not so great: you need two of those for nice effects

little bit dark - f/4.5 - 5.6 ...

I was using this lens with Nikon D7000. Your view is from 122 to 83 degree angle. Great to have that tool in tide spots like e.g. lighthouse.
It suffers chromatic aberration on 8mm the same with vignetting and astigmatism but from 12mm and up is just good or very good. Koma is in trouble too when shooting stars on the sky...
Unfortunately for me the range 8-16mm for my use is not very desirable, I switched back to Canon 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5.
Similar problems on lowest focal but much more light and you can photograph some faces as well - distortion is much better managed in Canon.
What's great about it: Ultra wide angle
What's not so great: Can't use any filters
I would recommend this to a friend!

Nikon D800 DSLR Camera Body:Features a game-changing 36.3 megapixels resolution and FX-format sensor for professional photographers who demand superior speed and performance and end results of the highest quality. Combine it all with a powerful EXPEED 3 image-processing engine to render levels of photographic texture, nuance and detail that rival some of the best studio cameras. Plus, HD movie mode shoots at 1080p Full HD for spectacular videos. Although identical to the Nikon D800E in every other aspect, the D800 applies the full effect of the optical low-pass filter to prevent false color and moiré for consistent performance in all shooting situations.Memory card sold separately.

Highly disappointed - Never again
By Switching2Canon from Portland OR
I was so excited about this camera, and it has been nothing but trouble since the purchase. Do your research on the widespread focus issue of the D800, and how Nikon customer service (or lack thereof) refuses to do anything about it. Nikon quality simply isn't what it once was, and I highly recommend going Canon if you have the means. In addition to the focus problem, exactly 1 year and 6,000 actuations later the camera would not power up. I was told a power plate (?) was going to need to be replaced to the tune of $500. You would think for a $3,000 camera you would see some level of quality control. Nope. I kick myself every day for not going with the Canon 5D MKIII. I am truly disgusted Nikon, and will never trust this brand again.

You sounds like a guy who just has a bad luck that's all. Compere specks of 5Dm3 with D800 on http://snapsort.com - & if significantly better image quality, more dynamic range, much higher true resolution, lower noise at high ISO, better color depth, built-in flash and less startup delay means nothing to you - maybe you should buy a Canon... or next time think about extended warranty too...

Nikon AF Nikkor 20mm f/2.8D Wide-Angle Lens: This ultra-wide-angle lens produces dramatic images useful for advertising, art and experimental photography. The 2.8 aperture performs very well in low-light situations. Because it's lightweight, this lens is excellent for travel and other situations where portability is essential, and is an important addition to any photographer's equipment.

is this lens work on a fx format??

this nikkor 20mm f2.8D lens has been design before 1989 for 35mm film format but it will work on both - FX (and will see 94 degrees) and DX formats as well. On DX you will get only 71 degrees view because sensor is smaller.
