This newly repackaged set holds the discs in the worst way possible. The 12 discs are held by a single plastic case that is unanchored to the overall packaging, which means the discs bounce around the packaging at all times. My set arrived (from B&N) with 2 of the discs rattling in the packaging & one disc was scratched 12+ times. The replacement set, which I received a few days later, also had 1 disc that was rattled loose & scratched to pieces. While the new cover art & slipcover are "pretty," buying the more expensive set might be the safest way to obtain the series.

Robocop is quite possibly the ultimate 80's action film. It feels like a film that could have been made today, solely on its social satire (which is still relevant) & performances that while over-the-top are pitch perfect for the film they're in.

The Spectacular Now is easily in my Top Ten list for 2013. This beautiful, little film about two teenagers finding each other is the ultimate coming of age story. Director James Ponsoldt has taken Tim Tharp's fantastic novel and slowly immerses the characters into falling in love while the audience watches. I cannot say enough about Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley's strong chemistry together which results in strong performances. Nothing seems like dialog, just words flowing from their mouths in such a natural way.
What makes this film so perfect is the casting. Actors & supporting actors look and talk like high school seniors. Neither are traditional Hollywood "faces" you usually find in movies like this.

Overall, this film is a perfect slice of a spring romance, flawless in almost every way. My only drawback (& it’s not even the film it self’s fault) is the lack of extras, which are pretty bare bones. Buy this movie!!!

Barry Lyndon stands as a challenging film, not to mention a blow to cinematic convention in all the best ways from one of the great American filmmakers, Stanley Kubrick. Barry Lyndon was and is a soft, lavishly lit film that on occasion obscures detail in misty light and shadows. It is because of Warner Brother's video transfer Barry Lyndon has never looked better!
Even though it has NO special features of any sort, it's definitely worth picking up!

Modern Coming of Age Story

Even though I have a soft spot for coming of age stories, I was truly surprised by how much I enjoyed "The First Time." Many films in this sub-genre fall flat on their face, ie. "LOL".
The narrative is witty and genuine at times without being superficial. My only real complaint about this film is the script, which seems sometimes was clearly written by a 30+ year old trying to emulate a teenager.
Other than that, it was a good little film that did what it was supposed to & then some. Recommended!
