This is easily one of my favorite films this year. From Nicholas Winding Refn, the director of DRIVE, BRONSON, and the PUSHER trilogy comes his latest vision of the underground drug ring run my Julian, (GOSLING) and his family. After Julian's brother is murdered, his mother pays a visit to Thailand not only for the funeral but for revenge. They do not know what they are getting themselves into. The lighting and cinematography and intense acting and imagery onscreen is nothing short of spectacular and even though there is probably less than 20 lines of dialogue in the film it kept me on the edge the whole time. some of the most beautiful looking scenes that i have come across in a while are greatly accented by the ominous music that is placed in the background. There is something so compelling and transcendental about this film that it sucks you in. Although this film is not for everyone i highly recommend it to anyone with an open mind and especially to anyone who is a fan of Nicholas Refn.
