Visit MS's own Surface Forums to see the continuing and newly created issues (i.e., new issues created from MS's attempts to solve old issues) with this device. I am still waking up in the middle of the night to the sound of full blast cooling fans, still get hangs on merely trying to detach and reattach the tablet, and continually have to do a hard reset just to get the unit functioning. There are issues with detaching the tablet if you forget you're in an application that uses the keyboard-mounted GPU, similar if your using an SD card mounted resource (WHY is the SD card not in the tablet??), and with just general usability of the much-touted features like being able to use it as a folded back/reversed tablet.
This is no way near the utility of a similarly priced MacBook Pro running a Windows emulator, which is what I gave up to run this not ready for prime time laptop. Yeah, the MacBook doesn't have the touch screen, but the touchpad is far more responsive and the overall 'only tries to be one thing, but is very good at that' design wins out over the Surface Book's obvious over-reach.
I have worked with just about every Surface device out there, and the only one near this level of unsuitability was the Surface RT, which I knew was a gamble and which was the lower end of the price range, NOT the premium model.
I should have stuck with the MacBook Pro or perhaps tried a Surface Pro 4.
Once again, I'm left face-palming for having trusted a 1st edition of any kind of computer hardware being amenable to practical use.

Ensure your laptop has extra protection with this premium HP ultrabook sleeve. It has a durable waterproof exterior to protect the laptop from scratches and spills, and it's compatible with 15.6-inch HP ultrabooks. The well-padded main pocket of this HP ultrabook sleeve adds shock protection, and a zippered side pocket provides extra storage.

Good Enough...

... but not really exceptional at anything.
It's a basic sleeve, with some minor edge protection. At best, it will keep the outside of your laptop from getting scratched and minor-ly dinged.
Fits a MacBook Pro 15" for the sort of protection you'd want taking it to the local B&N or other shop without any accessories. You might fit a thin mouse in the zipper pouch, but that just defeats the simple use, and the mouse is not protected nor is the laptop protected from from the mouse.
A lot like the dustjacket for a record, for those of you who know what a record or dust jacket is.

Best Non-Professional Case I've Used
on June 21, 2015

Unless you're going to go with a hard side case (e.g., aluminum or the like) this is probably the most available, useful case out there. Not overly bulky, but holds a Mac PB Pro, charger, accessories, and paperwork without being crammed together to form a solid, shock transmitting block. Fits nicely under the arm, and it's small enough that I don't think twice about using it. The tougher exterior is water resistant by actual trial, but the zipper takes a little getting used to because of this. However, it all has a nice, solid feel to it. May need to pump the sales force to get one out from the back as there was only one on display among the flimsier sleeves (that left none after I picked up mine and headed to the checkout). Also, clamshell allows book to be opened while sitting inside the case, as shown on the diagrams attached to the case (check out that fanfold booklet). If I had to buy a case for another, this is the way I'd go.

Bluetooth drivers won't load; no response from manufacturer.
Mediocre battery life
Keyboard not available after the fact, apparently.
Fits sloppily in generic 10" cover; button locations very non-standard, as is camera.
If you already have Office365, you're gonna have troubles getting this item's free Office365 loaded because of subscription conflicts
Probably going to be re-gifted because of all this.

Get What You Pay For...

Tinny speakers, SD card mounting process is physically unintuitive and borders on breaking things, NO manual of any real use beyond just getting music to play, Android is anti-intuitive and cheesy compared to iOS or Windows, you really need to purchase a music app to make it work acceptably (~$4), BUT...
You knew that when you only popped $80 for a touch screen mp3 player, didn't you.
This is a good-enough stand-in for an iPod Touch when out on my bike and I don't want to wear ear pods/plugs and don't want to chance trashing a far superior device.
Can do other things, in a pinch, but that's not why I got it.
BARELY a Recommend. Real value will depend on how this device ages.
Will try and update as the device ages...

Just POOR VALUE vs. even dated competition

Thoroughly disappointing.
Bought this to pair with a Razer OrbWeaver keypad (which is absolutely worth the the price) and replace a MadCatz RAT 7 due to occasionally flaky drivers. Wanted to lose game items due to bad play, not mouse woes, and wanted to have only one mouse/keypad interface (i.e., Razer Synapse Configurator has polished feel).
However, RAT 7 is FAR superior on grip, adjustments, and feel. And, in the end, there are no real game changers with the interface.
Ouroboros wide wing grips are too curved top-to-bottom to prevent easy gripping, the normal buttons are FAR too stiff, the extra (beyond RAT) side buttons aren't much use, the physical adjusts (i.e., palm support) are mediocre compared to RAT (especially the left side multiple adjust on RAT), the side wing 'crunch' button is mostly unusable, and it's just a poor value when you compare price vs. RAT (which is an older model, too). The only thing better is the ability to re-program the function of the resolution buttons aft of the wheel, but the RAT has places that can compensate, too.
Wireless may be useful for some, but I don't play across the room. Wasn't impressed by play time, and the battery hogs space that the RAT uses to allow you to adjust the mouse weight. Charging stand also has a connection that is hit or miss when you try to dock the mouse; you end up sliding it around a lot to find the right spot.
Also, small detail, the RAT stores the wrench to adjust on the mouse, the Razer you have to dig through the mouse box for the separate screwdriver. Magnetic attachments for the Razer wings are a meaningless point of tech, too.
I'll be selling this on as soon as I can find someone clueless enough...
Even the resident youths don't like it.

Finally!....

First the grumpy part:
This is the tablet that should have been released last year. Great battery life, great screen, SD card does not need programming to be added to libraries, a Real Outlook.
Still not enough organic apps, but there are enough to get things done if you look for them.
Second, the good part:
See above on what should have been in the original RT.
The speed increase has resolved herky-jerky movements in the original and slow app opening, old accessories and cases work, I can add 64Gb for the price of an SD card, I can use USB devices, the screen is perfect for Netflicks and Hulu Plus, the screen layout makes holding the device very comfortable, the dimensions make holding the tablet comfortable without the excess overhang as from an iPad, and the kickstand makes standup easy along with eliminating a lot of the effort in grasping/holding the tablet (another issue long periods with an iPad reveals).
No need to use iTunes because the Surface is a computer with Network Neighborhood as the file transfer option (compared to what you get with a purely media consumption device, DRM be d*mned). You maintain control over file management like you would with a computer. Quite frankly, I have iPods, nano to Touch, and iTunes is a real pain.
Finally, you can keep things synched through a Live.com account along with huge SkyDrive one year allotment, and there's the Skype bonus year, too. Having your Win 8.1 devices all synched seems like a small issue, but it really is nice once you get used to it.
And, having a year's experience with a Surface RT has made picking apps easy this time around.

Great Speaker - Lousey Support
on August 17, 2013
Posted by: reviewerxmajor

Type of Listener:Avid listener
Most Important to Purchase:Sound quality
How Often Used:Daily
Seems to have good response and sound, along with acceptable power output. I am used to listening on Infinity Reference Standards, and this speaker is very nice sounding and readily portable for a reasonable price.
Unfortunately, manufacturer has one of the worst web sites for explaining how to connect and troubleshoot Bluetooth issues. It is as if they only had funding to produce half the manual, and considering the following, that is unsatisfactory.
Microsoft specifically boosted this product on their website for the Surface, but the manufacturer has absolutely no support for the Surface. The iPad support also forgets key steps like enabling the AirPort service to actually activate the speaker, along with other unidentified light colors and button pressing to get the speaker into the right mode. The buttons on the top do actually work for the iPad to change tracks and pause.
None of the deliberate confusion is acceptable in a device that has you paying for Bluetooth, but seems to be willing to let you plug along on the hardwire connection because they ain't bovvered to author reasonable instructions. Considering the quality of the packaging and all else in the item, this is mystifying.
I got this for both Apple and MS Surface systems and was within 5 minutes of returning it, but will continue with it now that I've hacked my way through the jungle. If I can't reliably repeat my connections it will be going back, though.
What's great about it: Sound and Performance
What's not so great: Support for Bluetooth Connections

where does the sd card go ?

You have to take off the back. It's a real hold your breath moment, but you have to prise it off while being careful not to break the small tabs that refastens it when you pass it back on.

can you install a windows pro on windows rt version?

You can't install Windows Pro on an RT/Surface2 tablet, and the Store will only present compatible apps.

Also, I'd only use the online options to change system files on a Surface Pro, too, regardless of the ability to connect a media reader with an upgrade via USB port, network connection, etc.

Does the surface have "flash"?

I would like to watch television on the road.
Flash Player is on the Surface 2; HuluPlus and Netflix apps work just fine, too.
