Great performance, install was a snap

I originally purchased a Netgear Nighhawk with DST adapter to both improve performance and extend wifi to my garage. It was hard to get working with my DSL modem, the DST adapter didn't work on the electrical circuit in my garage, and the Nighthawk caused my wife's MacBook to have to turn the wifi off and on again every time it came out of sleep mode. I returned it and bought the OnHub. Install was a snap using the Google On app I downloaded to my iPhone, performance is great, and I now have wifi in my garage without any kind of adapters or wifi extenders. And it looks cool. Great product!

Difficult to install, DST didn't work

I was trying to accomplish two things - improve wifi performance within my house (and my new ring.com doorbell) and extend the range to my garage. The Nighthawk accomplished the first, but not the second goal. The DST adapter only seemed to work if I put it on the same electrical circuit as the router was plugged into. It wouldn't connect to the outlet near/in the garage. Also, it was difficult to get working properly. The internet access light was on, but my PC had no internet access. I finally got it working on my own, while waiting for the Geek squad to call back by trying different answers to the install wizard. Then my wife's Macbook started requiring her to turn wifi off then on again every time it came out of sleep mode. Didn't do that with the old/cheap netgear router we had. I ended up returning it, and bought the new Google OnHub. Install was a snap, performance is great and we now have wifi in the garage without extenders of any kind.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Can this be used with DSL?
I installed it on my DSL service, but am still using the DSL modem provided by my ISP. I connected the router to the modem via ethernet cable.

what is range in feet and will it go through plaster walls
I have large house and cannot access internet at opposite end of house or upstairs.
Range is always dependent not only on distance but probably more importantly, the materials and number of floors, walls or whatever between your device and the router. I can tell you, it does go through plaster walls, as that is what i have in my house. And it does it better than the old router I had. It might not go through more than one plaster wall however....

Do you need a computer to set it up?
My only computer, a MacBook Air has no Ethernet port but does have usb.
You'll need something (pc, tablet, smartphone) on wifi with a browser to connect to the router for setup. However, if you can't get wifi to work, you'll need to be able to plug an ethernet cable into a pc or mac.

does this package use powerline technologies
It appears to, but didn't work for me. Perhaps if you put the DST adapter on the same electrical circuit as the router is plugged into, but where I wanted to extend the wifi range the outlet was on a different circuit. I returned it because that was the reason I bought it.
