Great documentary!

This documentary chronicles the 40th anniversary (and final) tour of Canadian rock band Rush. It is touching and a bit sad to see these long-time bandmates and close friends coming to terms with the end of their touring careers. Narrated by actor and Rush fan Paul Rudd and featuring commentary from fellow rockers including The Foo Fighters, the film is poingant and well shot. Looks and sounds great. A must have for any Rush fan!

More of the same, but still good.

Rod & Gab aren't all that productive given the length of time they've been popular. This is actually only their third album of all new material. In fact, their last CD, while excellent, was just prior material re-recorded with additional instrumentation. Having said that, it's nice to have new material from these guys, even if it isn't breaking any new musical ground. For the uninitiated, Rodrigo y Gabriela play flamenco music with a rock and roll attitude. Much of their music is original composition, but they have also recorded some covers, including songs by Metallica and Led Zeppelin. Worth a listen for any guitar fan.

I wanted to like this film. Really I did.
Unfortunately, the movie completely lacks the magic of Rob's other films. I really liked "House of 1000 Corpses" and "The Devil's Rejects". The "Halloween" remakes are very good too, particularly the first one.
I realize that there are limitations involved in animated features, and the concept of n*zi zombies is intriguing I must admit, but the film really has such a threadbare plot that it fails to hold interest.
Furthermore, Sheri Moon Zombie's high-pitched voice is nothing short of obnoxious after 10 minutes. It becomes so irritating in fact that it is difficult to make it through the entire movie. I thought she was fine in his other films but her character is really a detractor here. Even the brilliant Paul Giamatti cannot lift this dud off the ground. Clearly he just smelled an easy paycheck, although I don't think this picture made any money to speak of.
Having said all that, the animation is kind of cool, albeit simplistic. The Blu-ray treatment probably does little to improve the picture quality of animated features produced after 2000. Already looks good.
Overall, unless you're a Rob Zombie completest, you don't need this.
If you are really curious, rent it first.

What's great about it: Great talent involved.
What's not so great: Those talents are wasted.

This CD is a TURKEY!

Where to begin...
Ok, so Megadeth has been through so many personnel changes in the last 20 years or so, it's hard to keep track of the band members.
Suffice to say that this is the best line-up the band has seen since Rust In Peace . Bassist David Ellefson has returned to the fold, rounding out Dave Mustaine's vision along with guitar shredder Chris Broderick and drummer Shawn Drover. A great band whose last two CDs (Endgame and Thirteen) have been nearly a return to form.
Until this abysmal effort....
What we have here is a lousy, mainstream, mid-tempo bore of a CD. Virtually all filler, no killer. The closest the band comes to interesting here is on the track "The Blackest Crow" , which features some banjo and an almost bluegrassy feel. The rest of the disc is uninspired, juvenile, lyrically bankrupt dreck which is largely devoid of the stuff that once made this band great. Guitar solos are far and few between and Dave's signature sneer just comes across as trite posturing. Super Collider may be fine for entry level Megadeth fans, but if you've been following the band for any period of time, you'll find this as inspiring as "Risk" was.
In other words, save your money.
This is not "thrash" or "speed" metal. This is just plain formulaic rubbish.

What's great about it: Very little.
What's not so great: Most of the disc.
