In the aftermath of the Gastrea virus plague, as entire cities have retreated into compounds protected by the antiviral element varanium, the human race holds its collective breath that the Cursed Children - young girls infected but not destroyed by the virus - are the solution. Thirteen episodes on two Blu-rays with English and Japanese audio with English subtitles. Extras include clean opening and closing animation.
This series turned out surprisingly good for what looked like a typical action anime. The main cast is likable and the main villain is downright memorable; he definitely steals the show when he is on-screen. The soundtrack is done by Shiro Sagisu (Rebuild of Evangelion, Berserk movies) and is a highlight of the series. The series is divided up into three mostly self-contained arcs and due to the series being so short, there isn’t any room for pointless filler. Each arc presents a new challenge and adds new characters to the cast, while giving the previously introduced characters plenty to do and continuing to develop their personalities. There is more going on than mindless action – though when there is action/fighting, it is of fairly high quality for recent television anime. The blu-ray itself features great visuals and excellent audio: the Gastrea are loud and the music is clear (“Crisis Point” bouncing off the walls during action scenes makes everything better). Highly recommended series for those looking for a competent action anime!
