You have to use the smartphone app (some would rather use a computer, but you can't), and once you create an account, it's pretty simple to setup the router and nodes (they all look the same; the first one you connect to the modem will be called the router), and maintain your network. I've set up another mesh system, and it was much quicker, but at least it's straightforward, and the system has kept a good, strong connection.

I use Netgear, because of their ease of installation, range of operation systems, and consistent delivery. This adapter may not be the fastest on the market, but the N300 technology is as close to the fastest and longest range in available products, for a decent price. I've installed several Netgear products, and have probably seen less than 10% fail to operate at all, if not with constant throughput. I think it's also important that they will let you use the Wireless Zero Configuration service, which is easiest for most users to find and connect to wireless networks, unlike some of the weird apps that are out there.
Keep your Wi-Fi connection strong anywhere in the house with this NETGEAR router. Monitor your network with the NETGEAR genie app, keep track of your kids with parental controls, and use multiple devices simultaneously for downloading, gaming and more
I've set up quite a few of these in homes, and it's the best for the price, very easy to configure, you don't have to use the installation CD, and is very reliable for awhile.
They seem to degrade after a year or 2, and they're sure not the fastest or longest range, but I would say among the top 75% of both, even compared to dual-band routers up to $200 or so. N-300 is about the fastest, and anything above really doesn't have greater throughput, just maybe longer range.
What's great about it: Low price, easy setup, stable operation
What's not so great: Not very fast, rather short range, seems to last only a year or 2
(Un)forgiven, Temptation, Mission 2 Mars, and Ramon's Revenge are some of the best music I've heard in a long time. The whole album is unique enough that it doesn't sound like someone else's songs, and I just can't quit going over these cuts!
What's great about it: "Driving music"--aggressive beat, great composition, tight group dynamics
NETGEAR Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender: Broaden your network connection with a range extender that gives you extra Wi-Fi coverage in your home. Smart LED indicators will direct you to the optimal location to plug the extender into the wall, so you can easily enjoy improved range and speed on your mobile and wired devices. Save on data usage by connecting your smartphone or tablet to your home network.
This is the second one I've installed. The first was very easy to configure, the second was a bit trickier. The range on these is better than the existing wireless-N routers, and that's exactly what's needed. Very impressed, better quality, range, and price than the comparable Linksys product.
What's great about it: Set it and forget it; good, long range
What's not so great: Sometimes tricky to configure the first time
