Looks great and functions well with camera

I use this item with a Nikon D3100. The texture of the plastic and the rubber on the base match the design of my camera exactly. It has a good solid feel and does not throw off the balance of the camera even with both batteries installed. The shutter button is in a very natural place when used in the vertical position. Although the button has a sightly different feel from the one on the camera, it does have the halfpress (focus)/ full press (shoot) function. If installed according to the directions, the camera will still display battery information as originally designed. The unit also has a built in storage slot for the camera battery door so the door does not get misplaced. The IR remote is a nice feature esp because the D3100 does not have a remote nor any provisions for one that I have been able to find.
Now the minor issues. The inital fit was a little sloppy until everything was lined up and the screw is tightened down. After that it is rock solid. The battery fit is also a little sloppy until they lock in place with the built in spring clips then they are held firmly in place.
You do have the choice to use one battery or two batteries at the same time. You do not have to keep two batteries in at all times. Another reviewer stated the short connector cable that is needed to use the shutter realease and the remote did not have 90 degree connectors, the unit I purchased has 90 degree connctors on both ends making the cable very low profile. NOTE: you do not need o use the short cable for the battery function, only to use the side shutter release or the remote.
What's great about it: IR remote and looks

Worth the price over off brands

I have purchased this as a gift for my mother and both my siblings and finally decided to purchase one for myself. I use it with The New iPad. It is easy plug and play, no need to download an app to use it. Adding this made it really easy to veiw my photos on the go without having to carry my laptop in addition to everyting else. I have tried a couple different off brand card readers for the iPad but I a much happier with this. I have an Otterbox case on my iPad and although it is a tight fit, this adapter it the only one I have tried that fits without having to remove the case.
What's great about it: No additional software needed
What's not so great: 2 pieces instead of a USB and card reader in 1
