Solid and Small Footprint Printer
on October 5, 2018
Posted by: RalphHenry
from Youngsville, NC
This is an excellent printer if you bear in mind it’s design points. It is not as versatile as a multi-function printer with Copy/Scan/Fax/Print functions accessible from your device and from an LCD panel on the device. This printer has a power connector and that is it. It must be configured wirelessly and you simply use your cell phone and the HP Smart App to configure your printer – it’s very easy. In fact I think very soon there will be more printers that reduce costs by requiring the user to use a smart phone or computer to configure it and remove the on-board display; makes good sense. I should mention that the printer has a light that for example when glowing blue indicates you are connected over WiFi. There is also an Info button on the printer that you can press to get a configuration printout including the IP address. If you see a yellow blinking light there is a problem. I solved it by turning the printer off/on (there is an on/off switch).
Some design points of this printer are simplicity, elegance in design and the utilization of a smaller footprint (it is 15x8x3 inches). The Tango X model comes with a very nice fabric cover that folds over the printer when not in use to make it blend with your décor. However, the cover can’t be in place when the printer is being used (part of it does sit under the printer). A design point that may have been nice would be to have a paper drawer under the printer so that the cover could be in place even when printing; of course this would mean additional motors to move the paper - so tradeoffs in simplicity and reliability.
I love this printer as a second printer that does not take up much space and can be placed almost anywhere for example on an end table or even a nightstand. It already came in handy when I needed a quick printout and of course my main printer needed paper added, I just used my Tango X and was heading for town without delay.
Using the HP Smart app is very nice. It’s great on the phone but not so great on Windows, since it can’t recognize Doc or TXT document types. It is great for printing photos (jpeg) from any device. A nice feature on your phone using the app is to copy a document page by taking a photo and this is sent directly through the app to the printer – very convenient. By the way, when I configured the printer using the Windows HP Smart app, it was fully configured and I could just use Word to print a doc file, so there is really no hole in functionality.
The WiFi is either 5G or 2.4G so that’s better than most printers that have only 2.4G capability.
If you sign up for HP Instant Ink, any ink used printing photos will get you ink refills at no charge. So that’s a marketing idea HP is using for this device only, as far as I was able to find out. You could use it exclusively for photos and get totally free ink mailed to you. The photos I printed were excellent but not quite as good as HP Photosmart printers I have used.
It comes with a nice user guide that is all you need really to use the printer, the HP Smart app is your user guide in fact. One tip on inserting ink cartridges: it is very easy if you place one finger behind the socket for the ink cartridge, don’t just push on the front of the cartridge – you’ll see what I mean. I saw some reviews where people had minor troubles that are alleviated by using my tip.
I really like this little printer and it is solid, it is not a toy though it’s size may make you think so. It is useful as a second printer for me, but could be a great main printer if you don’t do lots of printing as the spot for the paper only allows 40-50 sheets. I would recommend this printer without hesitation but consider the design points I mentioned.

Smooth, Many Features, Comfortable

This is a remarkable mouse. These gaming mice are very smooth as you slide them as well as they have a softer touch than your cheaper mice in terms of the surface material. This one is medium sized and is a little small for my sort of medium-large hands. A slightly larger mouse fits my palm better. Of course this is subjective and each person will find a different fit. This mouse is ambidexterous and comes with buttons on both sides. Plus it includes blank-little-plates so that you can remove the buttons on either (or both) sides and insert the blanks. This is really nice for gamers so that quick movements don’t accidently hit the buttons on the side you are not using. This is about 80 grams weight which is very light for a wireless mouse (yet it has better battery life than comparable weight mice). You can remove the little magnetic plate that covers the USB thumb key spot to reduce it another 3 grams. As far as shape, I prefer the sides to be more concave as to the indentation which makes a nicer perch for my thumb. Again some will love the contours of this mouse – it is very solid and the buttons work smooth as silk. By the way the battery lasted over 50-60 hours with the lights off and about 40-50 hours with the lights on. I went from 36 hours to 57 hours at 96% charge when I turned the lights off.
There is software that you really should load down and use. It is called Logitech Gaming Software. You can program the buttons to whatever you like and also can download game profiles, it is really quite powerful for gamers. Even if you are not a gamer, you will like the software so that you can set different DPI’s for example or change illumination. You can set 5 profiles to easily switch between. Profiles can be downloaded for particular games, the software will search and find the profile for you and you can select the profile you like including a default. Also you can ‘reset defaults’ which is nice when you bungle it up a bit – which is part of the fun of having a gaming mouse.
Logitech is pushing technology forward. This is a state-of-the-art gaming mouse. If you do the research you will find that there is considerable sophistication in this mouse. Logitech went to the trouble to get a lot of feedback from pro-gamers and the resulting technology includes the ultra-low weight, superior battery life, high speed wireless (so there is no latency), the HERO 16K sensor with up to 16,000 DPI, super thin but very strong outer shell (part of the weight loss) and 50 million click durability. It comes with a unique charging cord, but you could use any micro USB cord to charge it; however the supplied cleverly-designed cord will ensure very low wear on the mouse port. I would highly recommend this mouse due to its features, durability, smooth operation and comfort.

360 Surround Sound and Rugged
on September 17, 2018
Posted by: RalphHenry
from Youngsville, NC
The Ultimate Ears Boom 3 is a very nice 360 surround sound speaker. It has incredible sound for such a small package. You may be familiar with the WonderBoom or Boom 2 which are other portable, waterproof, Bluetooth 360 surround sound speakers – all from Ultimate Ears. I have them all so I could compare the earlier products with the new Boom 3.
The sound from each is excellent but I did feel the bass was better on the Boom 3. The footprint for the Boom 3 is also better in that it has a smaller diameter but is taller and for me that made it fit better on the real estate of my computer desk. Pricing for the earlier WonderBoom is about 1/3 the cost of the newer unit so that may be a factor for you. However, Ultimate Ears people were listening to feedback on the earlier products and made quite a few changes that may be useful to review. Be aware that there is a complete lineup of Ultimate Ears products now, so you can up your game with even more robust units than the excellent Boom 3. The Boom 3 does come with two 2” drivers and two 2” x 4” passive radiators – this is where the 360 sound technology comes from – marvelous.
The Boom 3 has a more attractive and durable finish, in my view, than the Wonderboom or the Boom 2. The new Boom 3 also has a so-called Magic Button to play, pause and skip and you can use this button to run playlists from your cell phone without touching your phone – nice. The Boom 3 has an optional charging disc that you can stand the Boom 3 on and charge without wires. This is especially nice since many folks will want to toss this unit in the pool, and the less messing with the waterproof cover over the USB charging port the better. However, it’s pretty costly and you may want to wait for a better price point on it before you pick one up. You can always charge using the included USB cable which is what I’m doing.
Here’s an interesting point, the WonderBoom and the Boom 3 will float, but the Boom 2 will not. So that’s a big improvement since you don’t want the unit to sink beyond its approximately 3-foot water resistance. The Boom 3 is also dust proof which the others are not, so you can toss it in the sand on the beach for example – very nice feature. Bluetooth range is 50% better on the Boom 3 (about 150 feet) which I found nice when walking around my basement workshop paired with my cell phone. I also paired it with a desktop and a Sling AirTV unit – no pairing problems at all. These units are drop tested to ensure they are rugged and that is a very important fact since the units are meant to be portable and used without a worry that a drop on the ground will harm them.
There is an android app for the Boom 3 which is pretty much a must if you pair it with your phone. It gives you an equalizer and abilities like combining two or even up to 150 Boom 3’s. You can party-up’ Boom 3’s with any of the Ultimate Ears’ line-up including Boom 2 or MegaBooms. However you can’t ‘party-up’ the Boom 3 with the older WonderBoom. You can update the Boom 3 firmware which is not an option on the WonderBoom.
It has a very strong hang loop and this is a definite requirement. The 15 hours battery life with lithium-ion batteries is great and tested out. It does take almost 3 hours to charge up. You can choose it in red, black, blue or violet. If you get more than one, it might be nice to have different colors. If you are still putting up with the old PC speakers, they are now very old sound technology. This Boom 3 has sound so much more vibrant and so convenient with Bluetooth that it’s really nice if you can move up to these types of units. In addition, the ‘party-up’ type function and the ability to drop it in water or sand make its versatility hard to beat. I do highly recommend this unit as the best I’ve tested at this price point for a small Bluetooth speaker.

Beautiful Sound and Rugged
on September 11, 2018

from Youngsville, NC
This speaker system has beautiful bass. It is bigger than its smaller siblings (LG also announced the PK5 and PK3), and has more and larger individual speakers. It has buttons for enhanced bass for better lows and clear-voice which gives you more highs. The sound is extremely solid with no rattles or rumbles, just excellent for music or for cell phone calls. The unit has a very nice rear-cover to protect the connections which makes it weather resistant. It has more power than most similar speakers with 40 watts RMS. Note if you don’t see RMS, you are being quoted a peak wattage which is less powerful. So 40 watts RMS is like 57 watts peak. This speaker system has Meridian Audio Technology built in and this does seem to make the music sound live, that’s the best way for me to describe it. I know outdoors it seemed to be 360 degree sound. The placement of the bass, middle drivers and tweeters of course is well designed to bring you incredible sound from this unit. I also have another Bluetooth portable speaker which sells at the same price point, and this LG had better bass – so that was an important comparison I think.
You should install the LG Music Flow Bluetooth app (there is another LG Music Flow app, so be sure to get the one that’s title says Bluetooth), this app will make it easier to handle lighting and other controls from your phone. This LG PK7 does synchronize its built-in LED light to the rhythm of the music. I remember building a light box with electronics to do this syncing called a ‘color organ’; now this ability is built-in with miniature circuits – wonderful. Try the app, you will like it.
It paired easily with my computer, phone or even my AirTV which I liked a lot. I did test the 22-hour playback on one charge and it was even longer, excellent for a speaker and due primarily to its larger lithium ion battery. It does automatically filter audio on cell phone calls, so the audio is very clear. I tested and it did seem that this feature was working nicely. It does have a built in microphone. You have a reset button and yes, I like that when you want to get it back to original settings quickly.
It did take longer than I expected to charge it fully, however it has a large battery and doesn’t require another charge for a few days of on-and-off usage. I did use the wired auxiliary input and it worked but the volume was lower – tried this using two different devices and Bluetooth volume from same device was louder for some reason. I do think this is not something most people will use as the wireless connectivity is a lot more desirable anyway. The other feature that is nice is the ability to sync two or more units and double your sound. It’s a useful feature to get more volume for a party.
You do get a 1-year parts and labor warranty and that’s good to note since sometimes I will see a product with only 90 days. Overall, I do love this unit and recommend it to use with your computer or cell phone or even a TV setup like am doing.

Wonderful Keyboard, Great Feel
on September 5, 2018
Posted by: RalphHenry
from Youngsville, NC
The first thing you notice is excellent packaging, I’m sure this ensures shipping caused defects are minimized and is important. Next the quality of the keyboard is readily apparent, solid keys and fantastic feel as you type. If you are used to membrane keyboards you will either dislike a mechanical keyboard or will suddenly wonder why didn’t I get this before – the feel on the mechanical keyboards for me is wonderful and the sound is important since it lets you know you hit the key of course and is another important feedback for you. Gamers will love it due to the excellent Cherry MX switches which have a 50 million stroke guarantee and yes you can tell they are high quality. The floating keys are on top of an aluminum top plate and this makes the feel so solid – no sponginess. You can deploy a couple feet to raise the keyboard angle and all the feet are rubber tipped – excellent design to hold the keyboard in place perfect. There is also a volume wheel on the upper right and it is something I now use all the time, I think all keyboards need these. Also a mike and speaker mute buttons. If you like detailed specs go here: https://fnatic.com/gear/mini-streak/
Since the keyboard doesn’t lay flat like a filet of sole, you need a wrist rest and one is provided. It has a nice metal baseplate that attaches to the keys and a padded rest that has three positions to accommodate different finger lengths – it hooks magnetically into your choice of 3 different slots. You can indeed find the most comfortable position for your needs.
This is a wired keyboard and it has a double USB connector. The second connection allows you to have a very convenient USB slot on the back of the keyboard which is ideal for connecting a wired mouse. I happen to also use the Fnatic Flick2 mouse and so I used this connection for it.
If you like lights this keyboard has them – RGB LED’s – wow they are nice. You can use the Fnatic OP app to configure 4 different profiles. You can customize the keyboard without the app, but the app is super easy to use. You can have many colors, multiple colors, pulsing, rainbows and other very nice color effects. There is a key on the keyboard to put it in ‘Competition’ mode and this key makes the lighting more subtle and a single color. The ‘Competition’ key also disables some keys like the Windows key. The app is going to be further enhanced so I am waiting to see what other options it will provide. I really think Fnatic got this right both the app and the keyboard. After using this keyboard, I very much prefer it over membrane keyboards, too bad most laptops don’t have mechanical keyboards, but some higher end gaming laptops do have these wonderful devices. I highly recommend this one which has a great price performance kickback.

Great Feel and Construction
on August 30, 2018
Posted by: RalphHenry
from Youngsville, NC
The Fnatic Flick 2 is no ordinary mouse, so you need to read the user guide – it’s nicely done in just a few pages. It is more expensive but it provides capabilities that make it well worth the price. First is the super-solid construction. It is full size and fits very comfortably in your hand (if you want a little bit larger and slightly different shape look into Fnatic’s Clutch 2 mouse. If you are used to a smaller mouse with a very slick surface, you will be very pleased with the much nicer soft-like finish on this mouse and how it fits your palm so well– terrific. It is light weight as well and very smooth. You also have a full 2 year parts & labor warranty. Even the packaging is deluxe and mine came in perfect condition. It will work fine for regular everyday usage but will shine in games. You may note that when you first use the mouse for everyday type functions that you’ll have to adjust the speed. Turn the ‘enhance pointer precision’ off or it may be too slow also. Both of these settings are found in your Windows mouse settings. You can also affect the speed by your choice of profile and configured settings on the mouse itself. However, the best way to adjust mouse settings including light colors is with the Fnatic OP app. You can get it here: https://fnatic.com/gear/op/ Note that they are continuing to enhance the app; you can set all the three profiles up for the mouse and switch profiles as well from the app. Install the app and take a look, you’ll love it. The OP app also handles Fnatic keyboard profiles and parameters. By the way the Fnatic Streak Keyboard has a USB slot to plug mouse into – very convenient if you have both devices.
You have the full array of buttons including forward and back (which I love) and also a button to change mouse profiles of which you can configure three. You might want one profile for everyday computing and use the other two profiles for when you need to manage certain mouse characteristics in games or for certain of your apps. Lift off distance (LOD) is a common one and is exactly what you think i.e. how far can the mouse be above the mouse pad and still track. Gamers want a low lift off number and they move the mouse very fast and precisely when for example they need to reposition the pointer on the screen; if the LOD is too high, then the gamer risks tracking even though they just wanted to reposition. You may also actually want to have different LOD for different mouse pads or different apps you use every day – fun to play around.
The mouse comes with 3 default profiles which focus on CPI which you can try. It’s simple to press a button on top to switch profiles. The cursor will move based on the setting for that selected profile. You can edit the profiles to make that profile’s setting what you want for each parameter such as CPI and LOD or lighting. You can reset everything to defaults easily also – very important. The mouse has very nice lighting that is different colors/schemes for each profile and you can change the colors/schemes in the OP app.
So for everyday use you can find the right settings for you and you can alter the mouse characteristics for your best gaming advantage. I am using this one mostly for everyday use and its soft feel and perfect size for me make it my favorite. Sometimes I even switch profiles because that day I feel different.
I highly recommend this mouse. The price is small for the technology and quality you get.

Excellent Larger Monitor at Price Point
on August 21, 2018
Posted by: RalphHenry
from Youngsville, NC
I have used monitors from 11 inches to 32 inches. Your desktop space will often limit the size of monitor that will fit on your desk and allow you to sit in a comfortable way and see the entire surface properly. This is a larger monitor at 25”. First I did find that monitors up to 27” will fit most home situations, so this one is a great choice for your home system. It does not have speakers and this can be important to many people; however with the availability of excellent Bluetooth speaker systems I think this is actually a plus i.e. the monitor-designer can focus on the best aspects of the video and not worry about cost adds or technology for speakers. I went through all the available adjustments which are very simple with on-screen displays. This is a very subjective area and I think it is advisable for each user to find the sweet spot for their situation based on existing lighting, applications you use, and viewing angles etc. Having said that, this monitor is wonderful in that you can customize the view easily and I did notice the colors are wonderful, the text is very readable and brightness and contrast settings provide all the adjustments most people and situations would need. HP gets an A+ in this important area.
This is a FreeSync monitor and HDMI does support FreeSync so you are fine to use this for gaming and it means you should see less stutter for example. However if you are a high-end gamer you may need to check your graphics card to be sure you don’t require a DisplayPort on your monitor to match your computer’s capabilities.
Construction is solid and you do have two HDMI ports and a VGA port (no DisplayPort option). It is super thin and lightweight yet has a very stable well-designed base. Instructions to assemble it are clear. The price performance I feel is a big plus also for a 25 inch monitor of this clarity and functionality. Be careful with cheaper monitors as the text may be fuzzy, so you do need to invest properly to get a nice monitor and this is one that has the proper features. Make sure you sample the image control options to ensure you get the right balance for your needs when you first set it up – very nice. I would definitely recommend this if you are moving up from say a 21 inch or 23 inch monitor – the extra ‘real estate’ does make a nice difference.

Amazing Quality at Low Cost
on July 25, 2018

These headphones are incredible, especially at such a small price. The sound is adequate and the design provides you all the function you may want, such as phone calls and easy connectivity via Bluetooth. I paired the Rewinds with a phone and all the functions worked via the single button on the right ear. I also paired the Rewinds with my laptop and again very easy and nice sound. I tried the equalizer and didn’t notice much difference between the sound levels but there were some detectable changes.
I also I paired the Rewinds with a Sling AirTV box to watch TV. The Rewinds’ Bluetooth had no problem pairing with this device as well. Here, a very nice situation for me is that sometimes the in-ear buds or larger headphones can get a little uncomfortable after an hour or so. The design of the Rewinds being so light and to sit on your ear, allowed them to stay comfortable.
Be aware that the charging cable connection is under the edge of the right ear-pad. The first time you connect the cable you will realize how to tilt the pad so that you can easily plug in the cable. The cable is designed a little long so you may think it is not fully seated but it is fine. Actually, this design ensures the port will stay clean so it is ideal in some ways. This design also won’t block out all ambient noise if that is one of your requirements.
The metal band connecting the right and left ear-pads is much better than having just plastic. I’m not sure how JLAB was able to keep the price point so low considering the nice sound, solid construction and excellent Bluetooth circuits – a bit amazing. The sound will not wow you like audiophile level phones but they would cost about 20 times the price in my opinion if you want the high-end sound capability.
I definitely would recommend these headphones based on their wireless Bluetooth connectivity, solid construction, light design, price and reasonable sound quality. A very wonderful little product.

Works Nicely Indoors for OTA
on July 10, 2018
Posted by: RalphHenry
from Youngsville, NC
The ANTOP flat panel antenna worked really well. I have a Sling Air adapter which handles OTA channels and it had a different and very nice new antenna already attached. I scanned for available channels with both the existing antenna and my new ANTOP and the results were very similar. In my case over 40 channels and the reception was crystal clear both for audio and video. I live about 20 miles north of Raleigh, NC. You will get more or less channels based on where you live.
I will say that just as the other antenna, the position of the antenna was critical. If you are using it indoors as I was, the ANTOP must be pointed so that the curved surface points outward. This means the area where you could connect it to an outside pole must face inwards. Also you want the antenna as high as possible and standing on its base (not on it’s side); on its side reception was not as good.
I also tested the ANTOP against an old Radio Shack antenna, in comparison the old (over 15 years) Radio Shack antenna was so inferior that I just tossed it in the garbage. These newer indoor/outdoor antennas are much better technology-wise. If you have an older antenna, it’s time to upgrade in my opinion based on what I saw.
The ANTOP is suitable to install outdoors and I expect the reception would be better. Also I could have drilled a hole into the attic and placed the antenna up there. Right now the reception is so good that I am holding off on installing it in the attic.
I also tested the ANTOP with one of the older converter boxes. Back when OTA channels first became prominent and useful, North Carolina gave anyone who wanted it, a free converter box – this old box was one of those. The ANTOP worked great with this old box and I am using it daily. I would recommend this ANTOP unit for an upgrade or for a new installation. It is not necessary to install it outdoors, mine worked wonderful indoors (but against an outside wall).

Beautiful and Powerful Laptop
on July 1, 2018
Posted by: RalphHenry
from Youngsville, NC
I’ll mention that this review is for the HP - Envy 17.3" Touch-Screen Laptop model 17M-BW0013DX which is very similar to another HP laptop. But a big difference is that this item has Optane Memory and a faster HDD. So with the Optane and a 7200 rpm 1TB drive, you have speed and quite a bit of storage. The use of Optane memory gives this laptop speeds that are more like an SSD and you do get an 8th generation Core i7 processor. So it is fast with great performance and with the gen 8 Intel Core-i7 with 4 cores and eight-way processing, you can run many programs at the same time without too much loss of performance. I had no trouble running some apps like Photoshop Elements, Thunderbird (email) and LibreOffice and browsed the web at the same time. Optane memory is actually physical hardware like an SSD but using Optane memory you can get a better price point with very nice performance. (If you are interested look up Rapid Storage Technology).
The physical design of this laptop is big and bold. You have a very bright 17 inch display and the entire unit has a sleek design with beveled sides. One thing to be cautious of is that even though the sides are beveled, when you insert a cable or USB key for example, you insert parallel to your desk surface. The keyboard is backlit and a must have if you travel on a plane or work in a room that is not well lit or you have older person tired eyes like me. A wonderful feature is that when you open the unit up, the design causes the back of the unit to raise up so that your typing angle is on a slant (front lower than back); it’s like the unit has the feet you see on a standalone keyboard. I think this design will become standard since it is so comfortable to type on this keyboard due to this slant. It is also a touchscreen and automatically adjusts for available light.
I did check the HDMI port and the resulting display on a smart TV was brilliant. Also the music playing ability of this laptop is outstanding due to the Bang & Olufsen Audio speakers – really nice. You get three standard USB ports and you also get one C USB port. Also a unit this thin with an optical drive is a pretty nice design feat. Another audio point is the dual array mikes. A dual array uses digital signal processing (DSP) to isolate audio sources. This microphone can follow a speaker while she/he moves around a room. A great feature if you use this laptop in business meetings for presentations etc.
The fingerprint reader on the right side of the unit is simply a small slot, but it works really well. I like the design of putting it on the side not the top of the unit which is more user friendly as far as I found.
You will need to update the OS to the latest Windows 10 as it comes a bit down level, but the update was easy. Also it has McAfee installed so if you want a different security software, you will need to uninstall it. Turns out that removing McAfee is easier now (at one time you had to use a special uninstaller).
With the Optane memory latest dual band wireless, the DDR4 memory, the huge touchscreen and the nice price point; this is certainly a recommended choice if you like the larger 17 inch laptops, excellent speed and quite robust functionality.

Great Blu-Ray DVD Player for the money
By JulieAS
After buying this product, I am both pleased yet a little disappointed! I needed another player to replace my 5 year old Sony 3-D player (also bought at BB) because it was no longer compatible with YouTube. Since my TV is an LG, I decided to buy an LG player.
The LG BP550 is smaller than my older Sony (another reason I chose it) and has fewer apps but I really didn't care about that as long as YouTube worked and that it also had Netflix and HuluPlus apps. Hooking it up and installing it was quick and easy and completing the system update was also a breeze! Already on sale, I saw it was also available as an Open-Box item so I thought I could save even more buying it at that option...NOT!
Advertised as 'Open-Box Excellent Condition' I ordered it on May 13th and it arrived on the 15th - without the remote! Maybe I shouldn't have assumed that an item labeled as "Returned, used as display model in store, or opened due to packaging damage but remains in like-new condition" meant or means that all accessories, cables, manuals, remotes, etc. are included.
Fortunately, my TV remote was able to do some of the basic stuff for installing and some playback features but that's it. So I make a call to BB and learn that the 4-yr Protection Plan I paid for would not cover this missing remote and was then advised to call LG for a 'free' replacement.
Customer service at LG then directed me to call their authorized parts dealer for my time zone. Of course, they were closed on Saturday and Sunday!
I called the parts dealer today (18th) and was told to contact the retailer since I'd "recently purchased the item and it should be returnable/replaceable under warranty". I explained that I had been informed that it was not and that I was told to call them by both BB and LG!
Subsequently, I was given the part number and price for a replacement remote!
Well it looks as if buying Open-Box didn't save me much, if anything, after all since the replacement remote has to be paid for out of my pocket!
I may be better off returning this player and buying a NEW one instead!
However, I must say that I do like the player for what features I have been able to access while using my TV remote! I look forward to obtaining the full benefits and features when using the actual remote control for the BP550!
Remote Replacement
May 28, 2015
It's not ideal but if you are missing a remote and/or lose or break it, you can easily download a smartphone app to run it. You could also program a multi device remote like the Harmony 650 which I did. So nowadays a missing remote is not a show stopper but I agree it should have not been missing.

Great box - poor fonts
By Jasonrn
I purchased this with great excitement. I mostly do everyday things, with an evergrowing photo collection. I bought Adobe creative cloud and was ready to go. Fired it up and was shocked at how bad the text looks. I have tried many different settings. I don't know if it is a scaling thing? I love everything else about the unit. Photos look great. I dont game.
The text issue is varies. Some apps, it looks fine... others - terrible. Also, some apps don't scale well at all on the 4K screen.
May return the unit and get a laptop I can plug a second monitor in for my photo work.
Fix for fonts didn't install
November 3, 2015
The expert pointed to a download and it did not install. I'm glad since I think you just need to go to settings and find the 'cleartype text' setting and run through it to make fonts great. Also I see many of the apps will fix drivers and so forth so there is a learning curve now to see how to run these machines.

This AIO has superior resolution to others. Some reviews spoke about a text problem, however you can improve the text via going to settings, display, advanced and 'cleartype text' and follow the steps. Also has 3D display capability which is good for future needs for me. Sound is nice with Jensen speakers. Touch screen is great. WIFI is super and has both 2.4 and 5 GHz ranges with Wireless AC. Very quiet fan. Lenovo support has regressed but is do-able I asked a simple question and the tech had no idea, also the website seems broken in the support area; glad I got Geek Squad. But this AIO is one great machine. price is very reasonable for what you get. Love it.
Tips For Better Text on AIO 700
November 4, 2015
I've played with the font's and you may also want to scale text or make it bold for example if you use Windows Live (you can do that within Display Settings). The other tip is that the text is very clear but small so you may find that enlarging text by hitting Ctrl and + (together) once or twice will make some things easier to read. You hit Ctrl and - together to reduce. I didn't use those commands as often on other machines, but it is beautiful to use at times on this machine. By the way videos are wonderful if you use something like Amazon Prime video etc WOW

Lenovo Fix for AIO 700 24ISH
November 5, 2015
Jason, I did think ClearType helped a little but the scaling and putting 'bold' on helped more. I did see the fix that Lenovo posted. First I flashed the BIOS which they also posted as of 9/10/15. However when I tried their special fix for the font scaling it is an .rar file and I had to load WinZip (free version for now) but it did unpack it. However I never saw it run successfully as it always returned an error code. I am going to call Lenovo on that but the text looks pretty good so maybe it actually ran. I'll post an update on that. By the way the support at Lenovo is abysmal.

Disappointed
By Brandon
It worked for a few hours right out of the box. Then I noticed the screen flashing and the graphics cards crashing. After a reset it freezes after 5 minutes of use. Not sure if it's the pc itself or driver issues with Windows 10, either way it's not worth the trouble. If they can fix these issues then it is absolutely worth the price.
Try Driver Updates & Flash BIOS
November 5, 2015
If you still have it and if it will stay up long enough, I'd say go to Lenovo's web site and download the newest BIOS, it's easy to update BIOS now. Then go into Device Manager and update both Display drivers. If you bought an open box, I'd also try to reload the whole machine to the factory settings (or BestBuy should do that for you). But if you go to the apps, the app called Lenovo Rescue System will do it for you pretty easily. Then do the stuff I mentioned above.

Checked on Font Scaling Fix
November 5, 2015
I couldn't get the download from Lenovo's website to install. I downloaded and unpacked the fix, but it returned an error code when I ran it. I spent 40 minutes with Lenovo 1st and 2nd level support. They pretty much had no info on this fix. They didn't open a problem ticket 8005969635. Also their website said you should post a request online to have them call you back, but their process was broken in that area also. Full disclosure: even without this fix, the screen looks awesome to me.

Successful Adjustments for FONTS
November 5, 2015
Lots of people had problems with the fonts on this 4K hi-def screen. Lenovo support was useless but Geek Squad fixed me right up via remote connection. It might be something others know, but judging by the reviews most people including me just didn't really understand. There are lots of modifications to DISPLAY parameters but what most people should do if they are using this screen for apps like Windows Live is to change the screen resolution to 1920x1080 and change the scaling to 125%. Now everything is beautiful. If you do want to watch a movie in high def, then put it back to 3840x2160 and set scaling to 200%. What is confusing is that there is a choice for 2560x1600 but this is not the same ratio as the screen size so you get bars on each side which you probably don't want - I should have seen this but the Geek Squad enlightened me. Now as to the patch from Lenovo for font scaling, you probably don't need it nor would it do much I am sure. So kudos to the Geek Squad and thanks. It is an awesome machine and in fact even the lower resolution is more than any other PC I have ever had.

Thanks for Posting Info on Font Patch from Lenovo
November 6, 2015
JasoninNJ, thanks for posting your comment that installing the Lenovo patch to help font scaling toasted the machine. I won't try again to install it. As I mentioned I don't think it is needed. There will be more ultra HD computer screens and I'm guessing they will add automated switching to show videos in HD but do the rest of your PC work with the lower resolution which is excellent when viewing text.

Text Display Improvement
November 16, 2015
After playing with various settings I have some hopefully helpful feedback. First of all don't use the 3840x2160 unless you are streaming video, it makes text bad. Also don't use 2560x1600 since it is not a multiple of the 3840x2160 i.e. you'll get bars on both sides of the screen. Do use the 1920x1080 which is also hi-def and fits this screen dimensions properly. Now if you want text a little bigger then go to 'set custom scaling level' and use 110% or 115%; this makes nice readable text. Now here's a quirk I see lots of people having and not just on this PC or brand for Windows 10. You may see occasional video card errors and once in a while the machine may not IPL (just power off and try again it will come up). I think the problem is the video card doesn't get back fast enough to the CPU, and the video card crashes but does recover. Not a problem unless you are playing PC high powered games. So I don't recommend this machine for games, but video streaming and apps like Corel Photoshop are great. Now what you can do to minimize or eliminate the video card crashes (remember it happens on lots of machines with Windows 10, so there will be a fix soon I think). Anyway go to Control Panel and search for 'visual effects', then click on adjust the appearance and performance of Windows. Then select 'Custom' and click the box next to 'smooth edges of screen fonts'. If you optimize for 'best appearance' entirely or for let 'windows choose'... that's when the video card may not keep up I think. If you optimize for 'best'performance' the text looks horrible. Anyway the 'custom' settings work for me to give me nice text and no crashes. This is a stretch but I think the engineers knew there could be a problem, that's why they tried to put in the super high powered video cards, but not good enough for now, I do think this will get fixed by Windows 10 OS soon. This machine for it's price is tremendous and I think worth this minor glitch.

Good News to Add
December 8, 2015
I wanted to update my review to indicate that a frequent display driver error that said "...Intel Video adapter stopped working but recovered...", has stopped occurring after about 1 week ago when a pretty big Windows 10 update came out. It was never a killer for me since I don't play games but when I googled it, I did see that it was fairly common on many PC's - that's good since it appears Microsoft fixed it. Note there are two video adapters in this machine but the Nvidia one was not failing.

No. The right bud is a master, i.e. it connects and is paired to your source. The left bud connects to the right bud, it does not connect to the source.

Can you use one ear piece by itself without affecting sound quality?

That is a subjective question, for me personally the answer is no. However you can use it with just the right bud running if you must keep one ear free. The way these work the right bud is the master and the left bud won't work at all without the right bud paired to your source. Also in case you think you could use the left ear bud and keep your right ear free, that won't work because the left earbud has to be about 8 inches or less from the right earbud or it turns doesn't connect.

Can you have 2 sets of headphones working on the same tv ?

Yes. On your TV will be a right and left audio RCA output jacks. Connect one of these to each jack: Male-to-Female RCA Y-Adapter (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-male-to-female-rca-y-adapter-black/4371028.p?skuId=4371028). Now connect your RCA cables that came with each headphone as you now have 4 jacks to plug into and connect them to each sending/charging unit. Now both headphones will get the audio signal from the TV.

Take gaming up a notch with this Logitech gaming mouse. The LIGHTSPEED wireless technology provides a 1ms report rate and optimized connectivity to prevent lag, and six programmable buttons let you create a custom experience. This Logitech gaming mouse uses an ergonomic design and advanced button tensioning for comfortable, effortless gameplay.

Is this a good mouse to use for blender software?

I would say 'no'. I would recommend a gaming specific mouse and look for one that fits the size of your hand. That being said, this is a subjective area. However for gaming I liked the Fnatic Flick2 it is a little smaller than the Fnatic Clutch 2. Both are similar in Lift Off Distance and DPI settings. Again you may like it for Blender SW etc.

Optimize your viewing experience on this 23-inch Dell LCD monitor. Its Full HD IPS screen lets you see content from almost any angle. Easily connect a laptop or a PC to the VGA and HDMI ports on this Dell LCD monitor.

I tried hooking up my macbook pro (which only has a usb-c port) to the monitor via hdmi and a hdmi adapter. However, the monitor keeps telling me there is no hdmi signal from my device. How do I fix this? The adapter works on other monitors (also Dells).

If you open the menus on the monitor (hit the buttons underneath on the right hand side). There is a selection for input, maybe that will fix you up. It may not realize it is HDMI, but if you tell it that is the input I think it should work for you.

There was no vga cable in the box. I purchased two monitors and neither had the bag cord. The description says the VGA is included but only HDMI cord was in the box

I didn't get one either, I think the description is in error. I was able to utilize HDMI. An older VGA cable will work, but maybe BestBuy will give you a VGA cable, you will have to ask them.
