Best of the franchise
on September 28, 2011

Ok, most people probly would say this doesnt deserve five stars, and theyre right. But the way i see it, if a movie makes you smile, cheer, laugh, and feel adrenaline rushed like this one does, then in that case yes, five it deserves. This is without a doubt the best entry in the franchise, with the same fun and excitement the first movie gave us, and the fun character chemistry the second one had. Complete with foot chases on rooftops, exhillerating bank vault pursuits, references to the original movie, and good ol fashioned hand-to-hand showdowns involving a couple brutes, Fast Five will almost deffinetly win you over in the entertainment department. And even though the story runs a little thin and the cinematography was lazy when there wasnt action on screen, that wont matter cuz the fun stuff absolutley makes up for it. All the characters youd wanna see together from the previous movies are now finally together, trash talking each other, wise crackin at the bad guys, and overall making what couldve been another lame car movie, into one of the best and most likeable action movies of the summer. Now if only we couldve had a more memorable villain that had more to do other than just sit around and worry about money, then this wouldve been even better, but oh well. Dwayne Johnson, or The Rock, does more than make up for the lackluster villain section of the movie. It was downright fun to watch. And thats all there is to it.
What's great about it: Likeable characters, awesome cars, adrenaline fueled action
What's not so great: lackluster villain at best

Its fun, and thats all it needs to be

I'll try to make this short cuz im tired, so here we go. Theres a few good, maybe even great things about Green Lantern. Ryan Reynolds being the obvious first choice to what makes this movie work. Ya just like him, and because of that, you wanna see him succeed, causing an audience to stick around for the whole ride whether they like the storyline or not. The journey he takes is a fun one, at least for me, and alot of the fun comes from the pure eye candy that is all the cool creature and environmental designs once we get outside of Earth. And, as paper thin the story may be, it still appealed to me because of the whole "its your destiny" and "you have the will" type of themes it throws at you. I just really wish the love interest was more important, that the villain wasnt so under used, and that the ending didnt suck. Now those are pretty big gripes, especially for a movie like this, but the positive sides of the movie are pretty good fun to be had. Note that im also not really a fan or familiar with the nature of the character, but maybe thats why i liked it.
What's great about it: creature/alien designs, Reynolds' charisma, just fun
What's not so great: some key characters are VERY mis-used, the not-so grand finale

Just good, fun comedy
on September 26, 2011

Not much to say, really. Its got Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd...and that means comic gold, for the most part. Its just a good little comedy that makes you feel for the characters, whether its liking Rudds comic timing, Carrells totally perfected goofiness, the hilarious foriegn photographer, or just flat out hating the cruel business guys, which makes you love the other characters so much more. All you gotta do is watch and enjoy.
What's great about it: the cast

A sheer pleasure

Do i even have to mention the special effects and use of 3D since everybody and there grandma have raved about those certain things the world over? Good, cuz i dont feel like it. But i will say that the special effects and use of 3D are quite stellar here...oh wait. Anyway thats surprisingly not all that's great. The key relationship/romance is what held this movie together until the epic ending battle. Yep, thats right. And the story it starts off with is pretty much left in the dust once the bonding gets-a-goin. Now i dont see why, but almost every major critic review you read is totally BASHING the plot and the characters along with the dialogue....and thats exactly why you shouldnt listen to em. There is NOTHING wrong with any of it. Sure, the dialogue might be cheesey in spots, but thats just good 'ol fashioned Cameron talk to get you more into the characters, and it works, mainly cuz its not dialogue thats overly important or too dry ans stuck up(cough Chris Nolan cough cough). Ya know what, just go watch it and eat it all up......................oh, and these are some of the best and most in depth special features iver ever seen on any blu-ray or dvd. Plain and simple.
What's great about it: Its almost everything that makes a great blockbuster, romance, special effects, heart, great characters and epic battles
What's not so great: cinematography couldve been a tad bit better put togther in spots, but im not complainin

Best of the trilogy
on September 26, 2011

To get to the point, Resisntance 3 is the best one in the trilogy, possibly the best FPS ps3 exclusive. It takes Capelli, the dude who blew Hales head off at the end of R2, on a War of the Worlds-type journey to New York, which from where ya start off, is a tad far away. The pacing in the campaign feels alot better, focusing the combat in consintrated areas, all following Capelli, making the entire storyline completely gripping. Theres even a nice unexpected dropp-off from the main story that lets you get your hands good and dirty for a little while. However, I do wish the campaign was a bit longer, and that the ending was more eventful and lived up the wormhole/multi-dimensional promises that the entire campaign was seemingly setting up, but oh well, what we get is good too. Overall, this is without a doubt the most personal and ultimatley thrilling chapter in this franchise and a must-have for the ps3.
What's great about it: Campaign with Spielberg-type story, controls, graphics, multiplayer
What's not so great: Final moments where a let-down

Pretty cool and clever, though never masterful

Another short and sweet review, so here we go:) Inception is pretty darn good. Nolan has a great sense of storytelling and it shows. That said, that doesnt always mean the story that hes tellin is completely interesting. But in Inception, it is for the most part...kinda. The trailers and tv spots make this out to be a heavy action movie that revolves around some sort of Matrix-type mind-tapping scenario. Well thats not the case, its more of a melo-drama backed up by a crime-drama that uses the mind-tapping scenario to tell its story. That doesnt mean its bad at all, it just means the movie never reached its full potential. So basically, when the movies not wandering into unentersting plot points, the stuff thats goin on with our heroes is pretty darn sweet, especially a gravity-shifting showdown in a hotel hallway. I just really wish the movie had more imagination, given the fact that the whole thing is about dreams. But oh well, im not cpmlainin...that much. As for the characters, its what you expect in a Nolan film: the main character having the only half-way interesting story behind them, and all the others dont even seem human because they all seem so propper, but who cares, when the movie kicks into high gear, it'll hold your attention.
What's great about it: The musical score, most of the action is rousing, the cast
What's not so great: most supporting characters dont do much, the whole 'dreams' concept never fully lives up to hype

Deffinition of Blockbuster
on September 25, 2011
Posted by: cruehead
Ill make this fast. The story starts off pretty paper thin, but who cares, they dive deeper into it as it goes along. The humans are very likeable for the most part and Sam and Bumblebee turn in a nice buddy/buddy type of thing by the end of it all. Its just cool and refreshing to see these types of characters combine. Anyway, all the autobots have their moments, and the finale as SICK. Wouldn't have minded it bein a few minutes longer though. But even though the stakes dont feel that massive, the action is still exhillerating, the good/douchey human characters are fun to watch, the villains are awesome, and Steve Jablonsky is a straight up wizard at crafting a musical score and making already exciting moments(thanks to Bay) even more exciting.
What's great about it: the action, score, cinematography, human/autobot relationships, great extra features
What's not so great: final showdown felt robbed

Not as fun or cool as the first, but it'll do
on September 25, 2011

Probably nobody will read this so ill try to make it short and sweet. This is NOT as awesome as the first one. But it still has a good deal of fun, even if it might be Bay's least awesome movie to date. Come on people, it's giant alien robots fighting and putting a smirck on your face, thats all you need at the movies. Anyway, I do have my gripes about it, and no, none of them invlolve the Twins, Robot heaven, or Sam's parents. Its how lost everything gets in the last 45-55 minutes of the movie. I had no prob with the story, but the way it all panned out was just not as awesome as the first by the end of it all. Egypt was cool, but not eventful like the fight in the city at the end of T1. Also, the sheer sense of thrill is kinda gone, too. In the first one, the action was seen from views that made the action rousing, like from humans perspectives, but here, the camera seem to just be where ever with no real sense of excitement the first one provided, even though the forest battle was pretty awesome. Most of the main characters(robot and human) are apart for the majority of the ride, lacking the sense of chemistry and believablity that made the first one so fun. The special effects have even downgraded, having an obvious lag effect in some moments of the movie. I did kinda like the story though, and how it blends ancient mythology with the dark world of the decepticons...but woulda loved it had it not lost itself. But overall, it does have a few funny character moments and some cool new robots like Jetfire and Wheelie. That said, most of the other new robots are either extremely under used or just too dumb(Yea Im talking to you, Devastator). It's still worth watching and still pretty fun.
What's great about it: the opening scenes, musical score, Jetfire, some of the best special features ive ever seen on dvd or Blu-ray
What's not so great: potentially awesome story kinda loses itself, laggy special effects at times

Best of the Bay trilogy
on September 25, 2011
Posted by: cruehead
Ok, im sick and tired of movie critics bashing anything with special effects combined with exhillerating cinematography(mainly every Bay movie). Dark of the Moon is awesome. Pure and simple. The story, though nothing mindbending or complicated, is still a good story. Its fun to follow along with it, especially if your big on conspiracy. and theres nothing wrong with the way Bay tells a story, especially this one. You just need to keep up with it. All the new autobots are at least given just a little bit to do this time, versus how in Revenge where Sideswipe just jumped over a car in the begining and that was it. Speaking of Revenge, DOTM is a MAJOR improvement. Its just more complete. The human characters are still charming in their own ways, and Rosey IS better than Fox, so top complainin. Anyway, all the new robots, Sentinel Prime, The Wreckers, Dreads, Que, Brains, ect are all cool additions and for the most part are all needed for the story. And the humor, well, its funny. thats all there is to it. And that finale in Chicago is totally awesome by the way. Even though some of the decepticons are very underused, when it came around to it, it was satisfying for the most part to see them all brawl it out. Id give this movie four and a half stars if i could, but oh well. Im sure the special features on the upcoming deluxe edition will be completely awesome too. ill just honeslty say for now that its the best and most entertaining one of the bunch.
What's great about it: action of course, the new robots, pretty cool story this time around
What's not so great: not the best use of some of the decepticons for the final movie

Completion to the best trilogy in gaming
on September 25, 2011

campaign: Its finally here..and it was so worth the wait. What a lot of people will find with this installment is how well it controls and how fun and replayable it is due to the better level. What most fans are gonna see, is how the story actually gets somewhere and is pretty much completely awesome, how the characters are wayy better handled, and how much you actually care about whats goin on. In fact, the characters are for the most part the strongest thing about the game. Theres also a part where the music will send a chill down your spine and a lump in your throat. But bein such a massive gears fan, i wouldve liked to see a bigger ending, but to be fair, it was plausible and climactic enough and overall made since so i was ultimatley fine with it, especially the very last few moments before the credits role which were great.
now for the multiplayer: now im not a big multiplayer person. In fact, the only game i ever really got into the multiplayer was Black ops, and lost interest after about a week. But this stuff is good, REALLY good. The action runs at a fast and smooth pace, the one liners from the characters put a smirck on your face, and its all just a blast.
Overall this is the VERY BEST Gears game and is immensley satisfying.
What's great about it: characters, campaign, graphics, soundtrack, horde 2.0
What's not so great: if your a true fan, then nothing
