A decent portable AC unit, worth giving it a try
on August 28, 2022
Posted by: stevefromtheburbs
I have become quite the portable air conditioner user. Why? Well it seems our heat pump (which is also an AC unit) seems to break at least once or more per summer. And in addition, we use these units to cool either rooms that get hotter than others due to sun baking the brick like a brick oven, or in rooms that are bigger than others and need additional cooling. Also at night, I sleep with it at the lowest temperature possible, to prevent PTSD nightmares. Being cool seems to help with this. So typically these are used in addition to our heat pump's cooling feature and not in a non-air conditioned room. Until the AC breaks.
Anyway, I was impressed with many of the things about this. First of all, it has app connectivity. That is a big plus when the remote gets lost or is on the wife's side table. Or, if I want to pre-cool a room before bed for example. Or to make sure the wife turned off the air conditioner when she came down.
The remote control that comes with this reminds me of a remote control for a 1990's TV for size. And that is a good thing. It is backlit (night time is when it mostly used, so a big plus) and it is something that isn't easy to drop when handling it in the middle of the night. I am not a fan of remote controls that are so small they get lost in your hand. It is a full feature remote control, so that is a plus too.
Typical stuff on this is the cool mode, fan mode, dehumidify mode, and auto mode. Same with the fan, high, medium, low, and auto. Temperature range is typical and the display/control panel are easy to see and use. Plus, this unit has a mode that allows the louver to move up and down, to help more easily disperse the cold air and it isn't all landing in one spot. This is a great feature to have. That is the swing feature. It works well, and gives a good swing amount.
An unusual but appreciated feature is an ionizer built into this. That helps to zap the negative particles of dust in the air, and can be turned off if you are not a fan of these (no pun intended).
The hook up for the power is typical household outlet. Just plug it in. It does have a GFI plug so if it shorts out, it throws the little circuit breaker in the plug, to shut it off.
As for connectivity to your window, there are options. You can use it with a standard double hung window, or a slider window. It won't make it for a sliding glass door, at least I don't think so based on the size of the adapter. And you probably shouldn't do that anyway, because it would make your house easy to break into. But lots of options here. Typical adapter that goes onto the unit, and then the hose, and the pieces to make it work with your window. It took about 5 minutes to get it from the box to cold air running. No kidding. I am experienced with them, but it isn't rocket science, very easy directions and very easy to do.
It produced very cold air, and cooled off the kitchen space which is about 20'x20', with multiple openings, and is part of that brick oven effect whereas the sun beats down on the brick front of the house and makes it feel like a brick oven inside. It lowered the already somewhat cooled area by 5 degrees within 30 minutes or so. Very fast cool down, fan is adequate albeit a bit weaker than I would like, and the swing feature really helped with that fan.
As for noise, it is average for a air conditioner like this. Nothing bad or good compared to others. I will say that the fan will go up and down, based on whether it is cooling or not, and it seemed to shut off after awhile, when the range was turned up. A secret I've learned about these over the years is that if you just turn it off in the morning, it'll build up moisture that didn't go out the hose overnight. Mind you, the hot air and the humidity go out the same single big hose. So it sends that outside. No 2nd hose is needed to drain water. BUT, if you routinely just turn it off in the morning, it could be an issue. What I would do is to turn the temp up as high as it would go, and let it run the fan only for a couple of hours, to ensure the unit is dry inside. This unit seems as though putting it on fan mode and letting it run this way is the way to go as the fan won't shut off prematurely.
Also note, this unit DOES have a schedule feature of which you can turn it on/off via a predetermined schedule. Handy if you find you need it on for certain periods or to follow your schedule for when you need it most.
Overall a decent unit, has wheels to make moving it around much easier, and has handles to grab and lift it if needed. Everything you need is included. Worth a try and worse case if you don't think it is for you, take advantage of the Best Buy return policy. If I were buying one of these, this would be a keeper.
I would recommend this to a friend!

A decent basket fryer, worth a try - works well!
on August 28, 2022
Posted by: stevefromtheburbs
I was skeptical, I've used basket air fryers before and have been left disappointed. However, I was impressed with what this has to offer. It is a large cooking basket, with a non-stick plate. Both are dishwasher safe.
Once getting it out of the box and unpacked (it was well protected in packaging), it was pretty straightforward. I washed the basket and plate. Then, I let it run for awhile at the highest temp and for about 5-6 minutes to work out any oily smells. Then I proceeded to use some French fries I had in the freezer. I used the air fry directions on the bag, and they came out perfect based on this formula (time and temperature). They were crispy on the outside, and cooked on the inside. They were in fact perfect.
Clean up is a breeze, put the basket in the top rack of the dishwasher and it comes out clean and ready to use again. I found that the unit has a top coil and fan draw, so if you are cooking meats and keep it low in height, the thing won't get all messed up with grease all over the coil and fan.
It has what you would expect for a control panel. It's digital, with all the options and temp/time choices as well. I noticed the panel is up and slanted, which is good. Previous generations had the panel directly above where the heat would come out when you pulled out the basket, and the panel would essentially wear out from being exposed to the excessive heat. This appears to have been re-designed to prevent that from happening.
Don't know about you, but I can't get French fries to come out decent when I do them in the big oven. So this is a smart choice, it'll get them cooked properly in and not waste all that darn energy heating an oven and then having to cook them at a higher temperature and longer time, to get even close to the result this air fryer provides. Would definitely recommend this one.
I would recommend this to a friend!

A decent gaming machine, also a workhorse laptop
on August 14, 2022
Posted by: stevefromtheburbs
This is an amazing laptop for gaming, yes. But it is also an amazing laptop for anyone who wants a performance machine for business. While I do gaming and love it for it, yes it is able to handle any of the games I played on it, it really stands out as a laptop that will be used and loved for business functions. The large display, and it really has a nice display, with the graphics card, makes it an amazing laptop for business presentations. It has plenty of horsepower to take on even my most serious powerpoint presentations that are complex, and renders an amazing image. I burned this in, after doing all the windows updates, by playing high graphic content videos for a few days. Even with multiple videos playing at the same time, keeping the browser open, mail, etc, it was still performing very well.
One of the more powerful features in this, is the built in monitoring tools that show you the performance of the laptop. Want to see the RPM of the fans? Yes. How much RAM being used, yup that too. Every aspect of the machine is shown in the built in utility. You can crank up the fans if you are plugged in and want to keep it running cooler.
The backlit keyboard is very cool. It allows for different color options that will not disappoint you. I wish more laptops had the color choices for the keyboard.
Make no mistake, the processor, graphics card etc. are up to the task of gaming. But it can be way more than just a gamer. I like the fact it is built so sturdily. I feel like I'm picking up a mini desktop computer with the thickness of base and rear of this one. It is way more than anything I could have imagined for the price point. It has a decent sized SSD, comes with windows 11 on it, and really cranks out anything you want it to do.
Also included is a really cool NITRO keychain. While small to some, it is a thing that I've had fellow gamers acknowledge. So there are those who know what it is, and are fans.

Give it time to get used to it, it is really nice!

When we first got this, it seemed to small for the box it was in. Once I let it out of the box, I realized it was folded in half, then also needed to inflate. But since it was folded in half, it seemed too small. It is not. That said, it takes the full 48 hours to inflate. And one of the corners took a bit longer. But none-the-less, it is up and running and we have had time to adjust to it.
My wife is a super firm bed person, and I'm not. So this was an interesting choice. It is not firm. But it is not plush either. To this end, my wife purchased a gel foam "firm" topper to use with it as she thought it might be a way to firm things up. But it wasn't. In fact it wasn't firm at all, it sank quickly down to the mattress top where laid upon. That to me is plush and firm is a mattress that doesn't sink down like that. Keeping this in mind, the mattress may say PLUSH, but it is firm enough to be comfortable and not too firm that there is no give. Frankly I'm a very big guy, and I found it very comfortable. When I hit the edge of the bed, I can see it is using the springs to keep it from failing. And when I'm laying in bed, I cannot feel the springs. I feel very comfortable in this mattress.
Before you discount this as a plush, I'd say it would be perfect for those who like semi-firm, or a mattress with some give to it. Frankly I found the extra firm one we had was so firm there was no give at all. Hips would hurt and so would shoulder, because it would not give at all.
The box weighed about 50lbs, and it was easy enough to drag up the stairs. Unboxing it was easy and then letting it unfold and inflate was quick. But the trick is to find a place it can be left alone for a full 48 hours to inflate completely. Plus there is a small but not offensive odor that emanates from it for that same period of time. After that, no smell at all.
Honestly, I'm so glad to have had a chance to give this a try - I never would have tried it since it says PLUSH and my wife would have been like "No way"....but has since settled into it and likes it. It really feels decent and as though it will be around for awhile.

Bissell vacs are decent and good if have dogs
on December 13, 2021
Posted by: stevefromtheburbs
from PHILLY SUBURBS
I’ve been using Bissell vacs for more than a decade. And in that time I’ve watched them develop their vacs into even more useful tools while staying as a budget friendly company.
Bissell loves to support dogs and they have my support because of that. It does not make me biased but does make me happy that they do this; dogs are a gift from God and they need champions to support them.
Anyway this is a decent follow up to the same product of about a year ago maybe. They made improvements to it, such as the auto roller bar mode. Very helpful and appreciated. I have multi floor surfaces all through the house and constantly switching on and off was getting old. This is a nice fix.
The other fix I noticed was the access to the belt and roller bar. Now uses a coin versus my electric screwdriver. That’s a nice improvement.
It cleans as well as you’d expect from a Bissell. The washable filter and easy to empty tank are nice. And the fact all tools for onboard is super nice. No more searching for tools when needed. The crevice tool has an LED light run off a battery but knows to come on when being used, very clever.
Some things I’d like to see are a powered stair/upholstery brush and a powered led versus batteries. But one of the bigger smaller improvements would be to include a pack of roller bar belts. Last one only lasted about a year. Since I’ve had vacs that lasted for years and never needed a new belt, it makes me a bit concerned why the previous model needed one after a year. They do include one additional reusable and washable filter and could easily include a pack of belts. When you need them you need them, and I had to order and wait for them to come and could not finish vacuuming until they came.
Bissell has provided a vacuum that works in a pet environment. With two long haired dogs, it’s needed and appreciated in my house. Even if no pets, would be a good vacuum for anyone. And I know bissell vacs last, albeit with new roller bar belts, filters, and some hair cutting off the roller bar as it accumulates.

An excellent air cleaner at an excellent price
on December 3, 2021
Posted by: stevefromtheburbs
from PHILLY SUBURBS
As a WTC first responder, with 20 years of respiratory issues since, clean air is very important to me. We have two long haired dogs as well, which only complicates matters. So, that said, I feel like I'm a good candidate to judge air cleaners based on my conditions and living situation.
We have a modest townhouse, with 4 adults, and 2 long haired dogs. There is constant movement in the house, in and out, here and there, etc. So dust from outside, dust from inside, and the dog hair/dander is quite a bit and I vacuum often to get it all under control.
This air cleaner has some interesting features for the price point. First let me say the filter (of which you need to remove the bag before using) is behind a door that you remove to clean/replace the filter. The door has a little viewing window on it, so you can see the filter from the outside of the door. I vacuum my filter often, with a high power vacuum, to extend the life and usefulness of the filter. This seems to help with air cleaners in general. Air is drawn in, the cylindrical filter does its job and clean air comes out of the top. Pretty straightforward design.
The filter is meaty, it isn't some thin piece of junk. It is big, unexpectedly big, and heavy for what it is. That is a good thing because it means it is built to work well and last!
The unit itself has a decent control panel to let you select things ike auto-mode, speed override if desired, and a timer function to turn off after a set number of hours. That is your decision on if you want the timer or not. Plus there is a sleep speed setting.
Most impressive is the air quality monitor and display. Awesome!. Green for good, yellow for not so good, and red for bad. Plus it has a number for the 2.5 level which is the smaller particles of dust/dirt floating around. The display looks like an OLED; it is sharp and crisp!
I've been using this in my kitchen, and it has removed all cooking odors in a short period of time. The CADR rating is impressive, at over 300 with an effective room size of nearly 500 square feet. Bravo, this is a nice first floor unit at a decent price.
For those who are Insignia brand fans, like me, you'll realize this meets the expectations of the products you have come to rely on for quality and overall value.
Oh yes, sorry, the unit is like 12x12 (width and depth) with a height of 22". That is a nice sized unit without being overly large.

Ninja has a home run with this one!
on November 4, 2021
Posted by: stevefromtheburbs
from PHILLY SUBURBS
Let me first say, I know someone who has this exact air fryer oven, and they have been enjoying it since it came out. I mention this first, because it has been running without fail for awhile now. And they use it for many things.
My experience with this is short, so far, but fabulous. I was taken back by the very large size of this one, it's like the size of a medium to large pizza box maybe, and not really appearing as tall as it really is. Once you take the racks out and see the available space, you see a few things that you might not have realized were important.
Previous experience with air fryers, and I've had a few now, has been okay, but one pet peeve I had was that when you use the basket for french fries as an example, you must stack them up tall but cannot spread them out. Even if you move them around during the cooking cycle, there is still an unevenness in the heating. With this one, everything is able to be spread out, and that has helped big time with this concern.
This has a sear plate, which is also a griddle. That is a plus! And you can use the multitude of accessories that it comes with (rack, basket, sear plate) in different locations to do different things. The sear plate is heavy, but is built with a set of rails that prevent it from being wobbly if you move it out enough to turn things over. Yes, I know, I've had to remove the tray on other models, put it on a heat proof pad, then flip stuff, then put it back in again. The risk of spilling, dropping, etc. this has always been a worry to me, so this addresses this concern. And I'm truly grateful for this and some other things.
Make no mistake, this unit gets HOT, as they all do, but even more so on the left side of the unit, and the glass. The fan is on the right side of the oven, so it is the coolest area of the unit. If it had another fan on the left side, it would cool faster, but that is a wish list thing.
Ninja however, thought of something very important, and it has bothered me for quite some time, is that they realized these things get hot and the risk of burns is significant. To combat this, they display the word "HOT" prominently in the display, so there is no mistake that the unit was recently used, hasn't cooled off enough, and it is HOT. Bless you Ninja, this will save countless burns, I am sure!
The fan will run and the word HOT will display until it is really cooled off. It says in the manual it'll say the world "FLIP" when it is ready to be flipped up, which is a great feature by the way, but I missed seeing that. The ability to flip this up and out of the way is a huge feature. This allows this larger footprint machine to sit out of the way until needed. I don't have a large kitchen, by today's larger home standards, so I value each bit of countertop real estate as extremely valuable. This works perfectly. An oven large enough to do a grocery store fresh, or frozen pizza, with the ability to be flipped up and out of the way until needed. Bravo!
There is also cord management on the back of the unit. Two devices that hold the cord in place and keep it from getting too hot from the metal on the back of the unit.
NOTE: Please, remove the cardboard from the back of the unit before using. Yes, it will be easy to miss and you don't want to leave that on there. I almost missed it when unpacking, in my male way of jumping right into using something and reading directions later. My wife saw it and prevented me from creating a problem for us.
There is a nice light inside the oven, so you will be able to see what is going on in there. I will say, there is NOT a switch to halt cooking while the door is open, which is another wish list item. But this is a smaller thing, I know it is running, and can stop it at any time. The door has a lovely LARGE handle on the left side of the unit and the door does not feel flimsy. Thank you for this, I always worry with these that the door will just fly off the hinges and fall/break.
Cooking is much like you would expect, but does have some oomph to it that you may not be used to. It is 1800 watts, so it can kick butt when you need it to or want it to. I found some things that I used to know how to cook in an air fryer, cooking faster and more evenly. There is a turbo bake option that will blow you away. Plus, the dual heater really does speed things up and makes things cook more evenly.
When using the sear plate (which you may use more often than you realize), it will do a preheat. You must do the preheat for it to work the way it should. The display will show you the word preheat and a count up to the time when it is ready to start cooking.
There are very intuitive buttons and a kind of smart dial to do what you want to do, along with a timer button to set the minutes, and a temp button to adjust the temperature, both the use of the dial after being pressed. Very easy and no need to read the manual to know how to use.
I would recommend reading the manual, and the included cook book, to get an idea on where to place racks, which racks or basket to use, and how long and what settings to use. This is way more than a simple toaster oven, and can do many things. It is also a toaster, which can hold 6 halves of a bagel, or 3 bagels sliced and laid out as halves, whichever is easier to envision.
So, I would say, for the money, and what is out there now, this is a really smart choice. The controls are off the side, not above the oven door, which is a dead end with other types of units. Once you open that door, the heat kills the display/controls - but not with this one. This was well thought out.

I'm not sure I experienced any long term benefits

This is a very interesting product, to help with a very specific problem. As I'm now in middle age, my body isn't what it used to be. And I've developed back pain, peripheral neuropathy, had a heart attack, and more.
With that said, I tried this unit. And what I found is that like with most who have back pain, the heat lamp did provide immediate comfort and relief for the back pain. The problem with it, is how to use it. I say this because it's really like a table top sized piece of equipment, albeit lightweight and has neat handles to hold it. But I cannot hold it and get relief to my back. So, I sit it on a tabletop and point it towards the height needed, and stand in front of it. That unfortunately doesn't help when I stand, because standing causes more back pain. And with people and dogs coming along and investigating everything, I cannot set it up on an a chair and point it at my back, without worrying someone will trip or sit in front of it and hurt themselves (the dogs).
I tried it with my feet, but having to hold it so far away to be useful is the same issue. So this would leave having someone to hold it and supervise it being used on my back, which I don't have anyone to help me with that.
Maybe it's just me, but this is not something I would recommend for anyone in my situation, with back pain, or anywhere really, because it is too hard to use. It does feel good to have the intense heat applied to the sore areas, yes, it works for that purpose. But because of what I mentioned above, it is too cumbersome to keep using on a frequent basis so I am not sure how it would work out if you could use it a couple of times a day, over a month for example. Might work great, but I am not able to figure out how to do that.
Oh, before I forget, the heat that comes off of this reminds me of when you'd go to hotels some years ago and in the bathroom was a heat lamp that would shine down on you and make you feel all warm and cozy when you got out of the shower. Like the red french fry lamps of yesteryear. Hot for sure!

For MACs, only an antivirus program, nothing else
on October 9, 2021

from PHILLY SUBURBS
If you are looking for a full featured security suite for a MAC, keep looking. This premium product only serves MAC with an antivirus program. No other features are included, and per the support folks nothing else is needed. I would love to have tried the network filtering/monitoring, and other things, but they are not in the MAC version.
As for being an anti-virus for MAC, I installed it while concurrently running ESET's full security suite for MAC. It worked in harmony with it, and BOTH programs recognized the EICAR test file for testing an anti-virus program - frankly this is the easy bait for a program test, but the only one I know of that should be used as the bar for testing.
The only concern I have, and I don't know that I ever really realized an answer to it, while it was scanning my huge amount of files, it said that it had detected a threat (went from 0 to 1) and then later, while still scanning, it went back to a 0. Not sure what that threat was, or what happened to it, it never showed as anything found in the log or in quarantine. So this is a bit of a mystery.
I guess it works okay, and having 2 programs searching for a virus vs. just 1 is a plus in my book. And both did find the EICAR test files, so that is a plus too. If I had a Windows computer available to do testing, I would have gotten the full experience. And I have IOS, not Android, so I was unable to test any of the Android features as well.

Very nice, but expensive for the sound quality

Make no mistake, Bose produces products of the highest quality and represent some of the best audio products on the market. And yes, these are are well built and are about as sturdy as you can get for a set of headphones.
The ear cups are very comfortable, and your ears don't get as hot as they do with others of the same style. Plus they are labelled with R and L so you can easily see what ears they are for. There is an on/off switch that is so easy to turn on and off, a very welcome engineering change from the norm. The buttons are laid out well, and easy to figure out after a couple of times using them. Battery life is excellent. Connection and the app are easy to connect and always connect. No failures on connection.
Of course it comes in Bose premier packaging and with a very nice case to keep them in. They are very well protected in the case. They fold easily and fit right in.
The only thing I'll say though, is that while these are top shelf headphones, that will probably last a lifetime, they are a bit pricey for the sound quality. I don't know if I'm 100% sold on the sound quality of these headphones. They are nice, no doubt, and feel great to use, feel like they are made very well, and command a Bose presence. But in some ways I'm thinking the sound quality of these is not what I expected from Bose. Maybe it is because bluetooth is limited on what it can push out? I tried everything I could to get them to sound like the price point they are at, but I was torn; is the sound really better than other headphones? They are great, yes. But are they worth the large price increase over something else? That will be for you to decide.
But do understand they are a nice set of headphones, and they are quality made. Better than anything else I've tried. Just not sure the sound quality is at the level I've come to expect from Bose products. Maybe as I use them longer, and they "break in" , which I've heard does really happen, they'll come to produce the sound I'm used to from Bose.

Perfect for taking a peak in on things
By Jahnjays from Chicago
I got this camera for keeping an eye on my parents, they are older and at risk for falling and other issues, this camera has already paid for itself ten times over! Not only does it give you a sense of security, it also gives my parents a peace of mind known that they are not alone and are being watched, unfortunately my father has fallen twice in the time I bought this camera, it allowed me to see him on the floor and I was able to race home to help him up, if it wasn't for the camera who knows how long he would have been laying there. The picture is not perfect but more than good enough, I actually leave it in Night Vision mode and the picture is great, also the microphone is impressively good. You are able to rotate the camera via your smart phone or computer, it's a little slow but over all I have no complaints. Well worth the money, I went out and bought 2 more for the rest of the house, the smart phone app is very easy to use, set up was a little bit of a pain, I'd say 1 hour but again, not bad. Honestly the best thing I have bought in years and I buy a lot.

What if a vacuum was so advanced it could sense the type of floor it’s cleaning? BISSELL SurfaceSense Pet vacuum can! Its intelligent SurfaceSense Technology can detect floor types and automatically adjust the brush roll speed to give you optimal cleaning performance on any floor type. It’s also our first vacuum with a Tangle-Free, Multi-Surface Brush Roll which has stiff bristles for cleaning carpet and soft bristles for vacuuming hard floors, so it can pick up everything from fine dust to larger debris across all floor types. SurfaceSense Pet vacuum has a One Touch, Easy Empty dirt tank and a SmartSeal Allergen System that traps fine dust and allergens while you clean. The LED headlights illuminate hidden dirt and debris while the Quick Release Extension Wand and above floor tools work together to clean hard-to-reach spaces, like upholstery and stairs. And this vacuum doesn’t just clean up after pets, it helps save them, too! BISSELL proudly supports BISSELL Pet Foundation and its mission to help save homeless pets. When you buy a BISSELL product, you help save pets. We’re proud to design products that help make pet messes, odors and pet homelessness disappear.

Is this a self-propelled vacuum? Is there a Bissell that is?

Not self propelled but is easy to maneuver because it has such a strong beater bar that kind of pulls it along. Bissell does not make a self propelled model that I am aware of.

How many filters does this have. Are they washable

This has a single cylindrical filter that is not washable. You can however, vacuum the exterior of the filter, to increase longevity of the filter.

Can you disable audio recording for these?

You can turn that feature off, but can also turn on the privacy shield to turn off video and audio by using an actual physical filter. Or you can simply turn off the mic function and nothing will be recorded. You can keep the speaker function, in case you want to say something, but turn off the mic function so your conversations won't be overheard.

Protect your home while away without comprising your privacy when at home. Arlo Essential Indoor Camera captures 1080p video and offers a way to reassure your privacy with an automated privacy shield, controllable through the Arlo App. Receive motion alerts directly to your phone and use 2-way audio to hear and speak to visitors. See at night, with black and white night vision. Connect directly to Wi-Fi for easy setup. Get notifications on your smartphone when your camera spots people or animals, and view recorded video clips directly from your phone, with a trial of included Arlo Secure¹.

How do I look up past recordings on the camera

In the app, you can go to the recorded library of images. If you don't have any, I'd ask if you set up any of the rules to get this to record. If not, you have to set up the things ou want to do and when, to get it to record. This is somewhat easier said than done, but it is better than it used to be. Contact tech support for help if needed.

On the Arlo Essential, can the IR be turned off? I’d like to position it behind glass.

Yes, you simply turn off the "night vision" option in video settings. See the pic below that shows the option and where it is.

In the app, you simply do "add camera" and go through the instructions. Easy peasy. Takes about 30 seconds to add.

It comes with a 110 plug only with no adapters or anything included to make it 220.

Can this vacuum be used on concrete floors?

I'm sure it can be, it can be used on any hard or carpeted surface. It has a unique roller bar that is neither too hard or too soft, and should work just fine.

Would the mop attachment work on the previous CordZero model?

I'm confident they are interchangeable. As long as the connector looks the same, it'll work with it.

Can i use old a9 by attached A9 wet mop unit

I'm sure you can, as long as it is the same connection. The mop unit just swirls the cloth pads around and drips water out so it can be a kind of wet dust mop. It uses the power from the wand to do it. But it does not vacuum up anything, when in this mode.
