Bought the 3 CD set for 9.99 at Best Buy yesterday.
I'm a guy that looks at the Black Album as where Metallica lost it. If you are like me, then you will not see this album as that great. Hardwired and Spit out the Bone are two good fast songs that are a gift to the old fans. You have to tell yourself that this is a Rock album and not a Metal album, then you will have the right expectations. The production is fantastic on all songs and the CD has better sound than anything I hear on the net.
The bonus CD makes it all worth it. They made some changes to Lords of Summer and it just sounds really good and clean. I like the live versions of the old songs and the clean production on the bonus CD.
Regardless of where you stand on the Metallica fan spectrum, I would say if you ever liked this band, then spending 9.99 on a 3 CD set for some good Rock n' Roll is worth it. And if you are around 40, like me, then it is cool to get a nice 3 CD set and it kinda takes you back to the record store days of our youth.
