Fans of classic television may recall the ABC adventure saga Tales of the Gold Monkey from its initial prime-time run, spanning September 1982 through July 1983. The program starred Stephen Collins (7th Heaven) as Jake Cutter, an American soldier-of-fortune based on the (apocryphal) Marivella Islands in the South Pacific, circa 1938. He spent his days in and around the port of Boragora, surrounded by schemers, spies and con men of many nationalities and backgrounds, and embarking on various adventures, some of which involved his weathered seaplane, a Grumman Goose. Supporting characters included the drunken mechanic Corky (Jeff MacKay), French magistrate-cum-bar owner Bon Chance Louis (Roddy McDowall), and undercover agent and lounge singer Sarah (Caitlin O'Heaney). This set presents all complete 20 episodes from the first season, plus a number of bonus features including a making-of documentary with Collins, O'Heaney and other series principals, costume and artifacts galleries, a collector's booklet, and much more.

The Best Cast, Steven Collins, Jeff Mackay, Roddy McDowell, Caitlin O'Heaney, Les Jankey, John Calvin, Marta DuBois. Great Scripts, full of spies, Oriental Princess and Samuri, good guys and bad guys and pretty girls. Full of fun, adventure, mystery. Smart Dog, "two barks" (Jack). Super Grumman Goose, 1938 amphibious aircraft and occasional shots of the Pan Am China Clippers. Another Don Bellisario masterpiece, like Magnum PI, JAG, NCIS, Quantum Leap. At an exceptional price makes it well worth adding to your collection. I HIGHLY recommend this DVD collection which I have been waiting for since show ended in 1983.
What's great about it: Nostalgia of 1930's mysteries and adventures
What's not so great: Some cast members are already gone
I would recommend this to a friend!
