LeeMe's Reviews

The detective series Father Dowling Mysteries bore an unusual and rocky history. It began with a one-off feature on NBC, Fatal Confession: A Father Dowling Mystery, that aired November 30, 1987 and earned encouraging ratings, but didn't generate a weekly series until January 1989. Later, it jumped ship and remained on ABC until the fall of 1991. The subject of all this back-and-forth was a gentle, laid-back program about an elderly Chicago priest (Tom Bosley) with a proclivity for finding and solving local murder mysteries in his community. He did so with the help of Sister Steve (Tracy Nelson) a clever and resourceful young nun - resourceful enough that she could pick locks or wheedle information out of street people with great ease. Episodes, which were light on violence but heavy on wry humor, followed the pair's adventures. This box set contains the thirteen episodes that ran from January through April 1990; installments include: The Stone Killer Mystery, The Woman Scorned Mystery, The Legacy Mystery and The Passionate Painter Mystery.
