Not great for movies, may be better for other apps
on September 2, 2016

The sound is tinny, suffocated, and does not fill a medium sized room. The dialogue is clear, and woofer is loud, but it does not sound cinematic, full, deep, or engaging. It basically sounds like you flipped your TV speakers to face forward, but there is no surround effect at all, in any of the modes.
I purchased a cheap $300 surround sound set 10 years ago and decided to upgrade to this bar thinking the virtual sound would be an improvement for blu-ray and 4k movies. I quickly realized my old, cheap surround sound has better quality than this bar. I will be returning this device.
If you are looking for a soundbar that will boost your home cinematic experience, this is not a good choice. If you want a bar for blue tooth apps, music, etc, I'm sure this will do a fine job.

Great player - needs more apps / better app mgmt

The 4k player loads 4k blu-ray/3d blu-ray/blu-ray/dvds at an astonishingly fast rate - about 7 seconds and you're ready to watch. It plays discs quickly and accurately. Connects well with my Samsung 4k curved 3D TV. I suggest a good HDMI 2.0 cable that fully supports 4k if you do not want brief skips/freezes while playing back in 4:2:2 mode (4k upscale). I had a cheap Amazon basics HDMI cable that was horrific for playback with multiple freezes/jumps/skips in picture, then upgraded to a $10 securomax HDMI 2.0/18gbps cable that plays back much smoother.
Movies look amazing with this player. Everything is upscaled to 4k with vibrate, deep colors.
The only drawback is the limited amount of streaming apps on the player. If you have a SmartTV and don't use apps on the player, this isn't a big deal. But a few apps that are missing that I would like to have added include the WWE network and Crunchyroll. Also, you are unable to manipulate the apps. For example, you cannot select your favorite apps to show on the home screen, the player selects those, forcing you to go into the app screen to find the app you want, which adds another step each time you want to stream. Not a big deal, but annoying after a while. I wanted Vudu and Netflix on the home screen, but it won't let me move those to the home screen. Also, most apps stream back in 1080p as apps like Vudu/Youtube/Netflix currently do not have 4k apps that work with this player.
Bottom line - a fantastic 4k/blu-ray/dvd player if you have the right HDMI 2.0 / 18gbps cable and do not mind a lack of streaming apps that I'm sure will catch up over time.

4.5 Stars - Works great with my Samsung products
on July 14, 2016

I bought this remote primarily for my Samsung UN55JU7500 Curved 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD 3D Smart LED TV, Samsung UBD-K8500 3D Wi-Fi 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player, and Yamaha HTR 6230 receiver.
It works flawlessly with all 3. Setup is super easy (after downloading Silverlight to my Mac). The only reason I'm taking away 1 star (well .5 stars if Bestbuy.com would let me) is because on the main menu screen of the remote, you cannot determine the order of devices listed. For example, I wanted "watch movies" and "watch TV - surround" on page 1, and "Watch TV - no surround" on page 2, but it always put them in an order it saw fit rather than the order I wanted, and even after deleting and reprogramming in a different order, it stays the same on the remote. It's not alphabetical either, so there's no way to determine the order if you have more than 2 setups.
Otherwise, it's a fantastic remote. Easy to use, setup, and understand. Solid click buttons. Takes AA batteries so you can use rechargeables.
It also works with the PS3 slim style without the additional attachment if you have a Samsung TV with Anynet. You can see how via Youtube videos.
It got rid of my clutter of 3 remotes, it turns on everything I want with 1 click, and turns it all off with 1 click. Awesome.

Start with the bad - this controller DOES NOT control Vudu, Youtube, or Crackle.
Mind boggling that Sony would release an officially licensed remote that is meant for media navigation, and only enable the device to control half of the media services. Living in the digital, stream happy world, it's frustrating to not be able to control several streaming applications. Take Vudu for example - once the app is opened, you can't control a thing except exiting the app via the PS button. You've got to go back to your PS4 controller to navigate within VUDU.
On the plus side, it is an actual universal remote. I was able to easily program my PS4, Samsung TV, and Yamaha amp in minutes. Some applications do work well such as: Netflix and WWE Network.
I think Sony prematurely released a product that was only partially ready for launch. The remote itself is great and works well, so hopefully there will be future updates to enable the controller to successfully navigate ALL of the PS4 apps and streaming services.

Great Stainless Steel Option for Smaller Kitchens!

This is a fantastic option for people with smaller kitchens. The stainless steel looks great, doesn't smudge easily (we have 2 young kids) keeps cold without icing over. Some people complain about noise, but it's never louder than quiet indoor speaking voices. It's energy star rated and should cost less than $75 a year to run, which is a great deal. We bought this on sale over labor day and we had a 10% off coupon, so we got this fridge at a great price.

What's great about it: Just right size, stainless steel, energy star rated
What's not so great: Nothing to speak of

A great starting point

This documentary does a wonderful job of covering the origins of our favorite reptiles and their creators. But it almost feels like part one of two. The origins of the turtles is covered very, very well with some amazing archival footage and great interviews. However, It's definitely missing some historical pieces and feels lacking in a few areas. Here is a breakdown:
Topics covered VERY WELL -
1. How the creators came up with the comic and began producing the series
2. The original toy line and their influence on the franchise
3. The original 1980's animation series, including interviews with the major voice actors.
4. The original 1990 film coming to fruition with some fantastic clips/deleted scenes that have never been seen before
5. The live musical tours
6. The falling apart of the creators and eventual sale of the property
Topics covered POORLY or not at all -
1. First off, THIS DVD HAS NO EXTRAS! So you could buy this in HD via digital download and have a higher quality copy and not be lacking anything. DVD NOT recommended.
2. The only TMNT film covered in the documentary is the 1990 film. The other 4 major motion pictures are barely mentioned or not shown at all.
3. The only animation show talked about and shown is the 1980's cartoon. The other 3 television shows are either barely shown or not mentioned/shown at all (I would have loved more info on the 2003 series)
Again, it feels like a part one of two documentary. The origins and foundation are wonderfully lain out, but there are so many other topics that could be delved into that a second documentary, or at least some substantial extras, could help fill in the gaps. And you can tell these filmmakers have the footage and interviews to make that possible!
I recommend this documentary to any turtles fan, but pick up the digital HD copy, unless they re-release this DVD with extras.
* Also, there is talk about these filmmakers assisting in re-releasing the original 1990 film with deleted scenes and extras - which would be amazing!
My Best Buy number: 2743815811
What's great about it: Comprehensive, well made origin story
What's not so great: NO EXTRAS! and missing some important history

Studio Ghibli's Legacy of Excellence Continues

Verified Purchase:Yes
Goro Miyazaki worried all of Studio Ghibli's fans with rather unenjoyable "Tales from Earthsea," but he has now redeemed himself with this fantastic addition into the Ghibli library. Granted, his father, Hayao, wrote the screenplay, but I would not discredit Goro's involvement with the picture.
The animation is stunning with vibrant colors and great attention to detail. There are several unique, funny, and lovable characters throughout the film. The music is light and airy during quiet moments, and driving and catchy during the upbeat scenes. The plot is a simple, enjoyable slice of life with some very tender moments.
This is definitely one of my top 5 Ghibli films.
My Best Buy number: 2743815811
What's great about it: Likable and unique characters, amazing animation, great soundtrack
What's not so great: A few unnecessarily slow scenes

Sorry if I made it unclear in my review. This remote was NOT created or distributed by Sony, but it is officially licensed by Sony. It's even labeled as such on the box. This is as close to an official Sony remote for the PS4 we will probably ever see, so let's hope they make some updates and bring it to its full potential.

What is the best HDMI cable to use with this player and a Samsung UN55KS8500 4K tv? I'm looking for HDMI 2.0a cables.

I don't know which is the best, but what I've discovered is you don't want to go too cheap, but definitely don't buy into the expensive hype either. I had an Amazon basics HDMI cable that I bought for like $4, and it was terrible for playback. The picture would freeze/skip/jump as it couldn't keep up with the bitrate of the 4k playback. I bought a $10 Securomax HDMI 2.0 / 18 gbps on Amazon and it works great so far.

will this give full HDR to a Samsung UN 50JS70000FXZA TV.?It was purchased in 2015. Do I need to do anything? It is SUHD TV.

Yes, it should play back in full HDR as long as you have the player and the TV setup to do so (go into settings of each and make sure your 4:2:2 mode is set up to either auto or on, depending if you want to upscale all movies or not). I watched the "Eddie the Eagle" 4k blu-ray with my Samsung 4k TV and this player, and it worked wonderfully. Make sure you have a good HDMI 2.0 / 18gbps cable, or you will experience skips/freezes during playback as lesser HDMI cables can't keep up with the bitrate of 4k. I bought a $10 securomax HDMI 2.0 / 18gbps cable and it works great.

is this model 3-D? Samsung - UBD-K8500 4K Ultra HD Wi-Fi Built-In Blu-ray Player - Black

It plays back 3D blu-rays if that is your question. It loads 3D blu-ray discs in about 7-8 seconds, which is very fast.

According to the manual, it has an automatic deicer in the freezer. We see a little ice build up, but it's not bad and doesn't seem to be spreading at all.
