Filter does not need to be replaced every 6 months. The red light comes on after 6 months, even if the filter does not need to be replaced. The filter is good for about 300 gallons of water, so if you use about one gallon or slightly less, per day, the filter will do its job for about one year.
What's great about it: It may improve taste of water
What's not so great: Operating cost is way too much
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
