Ahh.... Midnight in Paris! A journey through the amazing direction of Woody Allen, a spectacular cast, a magical city and one superbly original script!
I fell in love with Midnight in Paris the very first time I watched this incredible film! It's funny, entertaining, whimsical, and in my opinion, Woody Allen's best work since Annie Hall!
Please, do yourself a favor and watch this film! People say you fall in love with Paris... perhaps a stroll at midnight is all it takes? ;)
What's great about it: The originality of the film (without giving spoilers) Just know it's FANTASTIC!
The Runaways were the first all girl band started in the 70's, and, although the clothes are extremely disco-ey at times :) you can't deny the incredible music which emerges from this film!
The story really focuses on 2 main characters within the band. There is an attraction of sorts to one another from the beginning. Perhaps a respect for each others' talents and lonely home lives for both characters draws Joan Jett, portrayed by Kristen Stewart and Cherie Currie, Dakota Fanning's role.
Kristen Stewart proves that she can break out of the "Twilight Box" and that she has the chops to kick this role's butt! And she does it very well. Jett herself made the final casting choice and chose Stewart as her character. Kristen does an impeccable job with her innate awkwardness during a time when females weren't getting gigs with the electric guitar, down to her tomboy style and striking likeness to Jett herself. Stewart commands the screen and is a true talent.
All I can say is Oh my Dakota! Fanning's character, Cherie, is extremely provocative, sultry, and, dare I say, promiscuous? Dakota herself has grown up considerably and presents herself extremely comfortable in her role showing off her beautiful womanly figure! Cherie is the beautiful blond "bombshell" lead singer of the Runaways. Dakota actually sings well with and without auto-tune. Her character has incredible presence; especially while on stage! There are many layers to Cherie...and as the film progresses, Dakota's sensational ability to peel back the emotions which coincide with each passing scene simply cements what a gifted actress she truly is!
The Runaways is filled with drama/coming of age (it's a bunch of chicks, how could there not be? ;) and this is coming from a female haha) Memorable acting, and of course - THE MUSIC! However these young ladies are just like any band on tour =ing s*x, drugs, and rock 'n roll! What happens when one tips the balance?
I actually love this movie - not only because I can watch it over and over again and never tire of it - but because it's based on true events and inspired other female bands to form; including Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, as well as influencing countless other musicians and girl bands to emerge and succeed. And that right there, must be an amazing feeling when these women look back and see what they've accomplished and contributed to the world of music!
I highly recommend this film - it's funny, sexy, has awesome music... it's fantastic :) I bought it blindly and obviously have had NO regrets and neither will you! :D!
What's great about it: Learning the story behind the 1st all girl rock band
What's not so great: I loved every moment of this film
