Worthy upgrade in the D7xxx line
on June 19, 2017

I picked up the D7500 over the weekend. I haven't put it through all of its paces yet. I may come back to update this later. But I figured I'd put some quick thoughts together for anyone on the fence. I've been using a D7100 for a few years and so far the D7500 is definitely worth the upgrade. I have already noticed a big difference in image quality and speed, things that are very important to me. I have not tested it with all my lenses and flash. The autofocus has been very good although it's not the same as with the D500. I have yet to test out running children/dogs in AF-C to see how the focus does. I also haven't done extensive low light testing but the few that I took around 800-1600 ISO looked really good.
Some things you should be aware of...these are not necessarily "cons" to me but they may be for you:
1. Adobe and Apple have not released updates for this camera yet. Therefore, Photoshop and Lightroom will not import or process the files yet (JPG or RAW). Video files were recognized by my computer and LR5 though. There are workarounds via free software but it's more time consuming. These may be a disruption to your normal work flow as it has been to mine. Hopefully these updates will be out soon as they normally do.
2. The top window is noticeably smaller than the D7xxx series. However, the shutter speed and aperture # are prominent and fairly big. The other info is squeezed closer together and a few things are missing (i.e. file type). But it's all there on the bigger info screen on the rear.
3. You cannot put a battery grip on it.
4. There is only one SD card slot.
5. Battery life is supposed to be a little shorter than the D7100/7200.
But again there are some good pros:
1. Best crop frame sensor available now by Nikon
2. Noticeably lighter than the D7100/7200
3. Better in low light than D7100/7200
4. Touch screen functions
5. Can send pics via wi-fi to your phone.
I've read a lot about the D500, which the D7500 is sort of the baby brother of. That thing is a beast that can compete with some of Nikon's full frame cameras. However, it's not for me and I suspect many other people: it is big, fairly heavy, and approaching the cost of a full frame camera. It also only has one SD slot (I don't use the other type it has) and doesn't have a built in flash. Yes, built in flash isn't always the best but I'd rather have it than not. For those of us not wanting or needing the D500 or an entry level FF, the D7500 is a no brainer. An alternative is to wait and see what Nikon does with the updates for the D750, D610, and D810, which may be coming soon. It's possible the cost of FF bodies will come down. However, I for one, am not ready for that leap yet and think the D7500 will serve me well for years to come. Hopefully, I don't eat these words once I put it through more testing as my workflow is restored.

Great but not for me

I'm returning this but thought I'd submit a review in case someone else has the same question I did. (I could not find the answer I needed on Best Buy's reviews). I bought this for the large water tank and carafe less design. I'm the only coffee drinker in the house and only make about 12-16 ounces at a time. I was hoping that the 1-4 cup function this unit has meant that I could fill the tank up with water and choose to brew only 2-4 cups. This way, I wouldn't have to keep filling it each day. Some reviewers on another site said you could do it that way and some said you couldn't. So, I tried it myself. Nope. This unit will brew the amount of coffee that corresponds to the amount of water you put in...unless you manually press stop. I assumed this would be the case but thought I'd try the 1-4 cup function anyway. I was able to turn the unit off once the coffee I wanted was made but obviously I wouldn't be able to do this on a routine basis. So, I'm returning this today.
So for me, this isn't the best unit but it is very nice. It is pretty big but easy to use and the coffee was very good. Great warranty too which helps justify its cost. Keep in mind with this type of coffee maker you have to take the basket and the coffee reservoir out to clean them...can be more of a hassle than cleaning just the basket and carafe of a standard maker.

Great small coffee maker

I got this as a gift about 5 years ago and it is still going strong. Although this unit has performed very well, it is showing some wear and is harder to keep clean...so I'm in the market for a new one. I bought a larger Cuisinart but not sure I can get used to the size and since I'm the only coffee drinker in the house, I'm probably taking it back and going to buy this unit again.
The warming plate has peeled and looks rusted and the reservoir and carafe are also stained. But full disclosure: I've never spent a lot of time scrubbing them perfectly clean. The carafe does spill while pouring coffee if you go too fast. But this is operator error, not necessarily a design fault. But again, this unit has always made very good coffee, takes up very little space, and is very easy to use.

Best outdoor speakers Best Buy offers
on August 4, 2013

Verified Purchase:Yes
I've been using these for about a month now on our backyard deck via zone 2 on my Denon AVR....mostly Pandora or my iTunes library via Apple TV/Airplay. Yes, it's compressed digital music (converted to analog as the AVR cannot output digital signals through zone 2-something I learned while researching adding outdoor speakers) but they sound great.
I listened to several others in the store and these won out. They simply sounded better than everything else Best Buy had to offer. There are more expensive and potentially better speakers out there but naturally I wanted to hear what I was buying. I was a little reluctant to spend so much when I anticipated only using them a few times from April to October. However, they sound so good, I've made more time to sit outside and enjoy them. Plus, they were on sale that week so I pulled the trigger.
I brought these Def Techs home and compared them to another great pair from Best Buy, the Klipsch KHO-7. While the Kilpsch sounded and looked great and were cheaper, they sounded, well, like outdoor speakers. Hard to explain since sound is so subjective. The Def Techs sounded more like quality indoor speakers in a weatherproof housing. Plus, they looked better installed. If you have the extra cash and are serious about good sound (even if only pumping compressed digital music through them), these are a great buy.

Good bass rich sound but one side failed
on July 17, 2013

from Newark DE
How Often Used:3-5 times a week
I'm not the main user of these but I thought others could benefit from my wife's experience with them.
I bought these for her last Christmas to replace her Sony ear buds which began failing after about 2 years. She used them indoors at the gym about 3 times a week with no problems until June 2013 when she said one side started cutting out. I confirmed the right ear bud hadn't cut out but had decreased in output substantially. There was still some sound but the difference was very noticeable, enough to warrant contacting Logitech customer support to see what could be done. (I could see no damage to them or debris obstructing the sound so I was out of options.)
After explaining our issue and emailing our receipt to the rep, a new set was sent out a day or two later. He didn't specify if they've had issues with them and he didn't ask for the old pair to be sent back. We were very happy with such excellent customer support.
The new ones arrived today and I gave them a listen. They sound pretty good and are very bass rich...a little too much for my liking...but in their defense I've been using a dual driver Shure model for a few years so I'm used to a slightly clearer, balanced, and defined sound. However, for a single driver ear bud, these are really good and comparable to others I've tried (Bose, Shure, Sony, and Klipsch). In addition to the sound, you'll probably enjoy the different size tips which will help you get a good seal. The shirt clip is nice to have too even though the wires on these aren't terribly thick (thicker wires can tend to pull down on the ear buds). Sound is very subjective but I hope this review helps.
What's great about it: Sound quality for the price; shirt clip; comfortable fit
What's not so great: Somewhat flimsy; may be too bassy for some people

Great for 9 months...then...

I'm glad I waited to post a review as I recently had problems with this unit. We bought this in September 2012 and had little problems with installation. It did not have as much space as our last one that was about 12 years old but it's looks great, is fairly quiet, easy to use, and performs well. My only complaint is that with the unit partially under the counter top, it's difficult to fit my fingers in to reach the touch pad. So if you want a flush mount, keep that in mind.
After 9 months of problem free use, the unit began giving an error message after starting a cycle. It would not complete a full cycle. Then it gave a different error message and would not cycle on at all. A noise could be heard as if it were running but it wasn't doing anything. I attempted to reset the unit by turning the breaker off and resetting the panel but it didn't help.
I called for service two weeks ago and the tech just left my house. Apparently, there have been many recent problems with the control panel and touch pad going bad on this model. I even found some evidence of this via a Google search. He said that he's replaced 4 of these panels since January. In anticipation of my unit needing these parts, he ordered them shortly after my call to them nearly 2 weeks ago. The parts were not in yet leading him to believe that the delay was b/c Frigidaire is aware of the problem and has made changes that have caused additional delays. He indicated that some of the original replacements also went bad so they went back to "square one" to fix the issue by making a new part.
I'm not going to bash Frigidaire (yet) or give this unit a bad rating as it works well. If what the tech told me is true, Frigidaire is on top of the problem and routinely handles problems quickly. Once we get the new parts installed, he said we should have no other problems. Time will tell!

Great upgrade from ultra compacts.
on August 3, 2011

I bought this to replace a 4 year old Canon SD750, which used to take good pictures and great video but had recently slipped in image quality a bit. I also wanted to upgrade to one that takes HD video and after checking out a friend's Nikon last year, I was ready to make the switch. I did tons of research and physically tested many out and this one won.
This camera does a great job at both images and video. Some images have been grainy/blurry but it was b/c of the operator or subject moving, or the angle, or lighting level. As with any camera, you should read the manual to inform themselves of the features and knowledge on the many factors at play with getting good images. I think some people don't take the time to do that and then complain that the camera takes poor pictures. There are a lot of features with this camera...more than with a standard point and shoot. It's not for everyone. However, family and friends who have used mine have commented on how fast and easy it is to use and love the quality of the pictures.
It is a bit bulkier than many of the ultra compacts (especially when in a case) but it still beats the cost, complexity, and bulkiness of a DSLR. The zoom is amazing, especially for video. I took video at a recent U2 concert and zoomed in on the stage from the back of the stadium. The only issue was every little movement I made was exaggerated and some detail was lost. You have the option of recording in 720p or 1080p and can start/stop recording with a dedicated button, which is awesome. I also bought a mini HDMI cable so I can hook the camera up to our 55 inch HDTV...pretty impressive!
Another cool feature is you can edit images in the camera and save a new copy. It's not as detailed as the editing software but it's really good for retouching or improving the lighting/contrast of pics. Speaking of the editing/organizing software: it took some time to make all the adjustments I wanted but it's pretty good. The flash must be manually raised via a small lever on the left side of the camera. This takes some getting used to but hasn't been a huge deal. Most pics we take don't really need the flash. I've finally realized that flash is only useful in certain situations. There's also many special scene modes and the ability to change the brightness on the fly if you ever see the need to do so. Very flexible quality camera...excellent for the price and what I need.
What's great about it: Good price for features; zoom; picture quality; ability to edit pics; connect to HDTV
What's not so great: Bulky when in a case; AV input on bottom forcing you to lay it on its front or rear face; must raise flash manually
I would recommend this to a friend!

Nikon D5100 DSLR Camera with 18–55mm VR Lens: Easy to carry and easy to use — the Nikon 5100 offers you the versatility to create vibrant photographs and videos. Weighing slightly more than 16 oz., this camera fits easily in a larger purse or bag without weighing you down. When used in auto mode, the 11-point autofocus ensures clear pictures, while the fully manual mode allows complete control of exposure. With 16.2 megapixels, photo enlargements pop with detail and clarity. This package includes a Vibration Reduction lens.

what is the iso use??

The D5100 has very high ISO capabilities, I don't recall the exact number, but it's way higher than you'll ever be able to use without adding excessive noise/grain to your images. I get great images at 800 and even at 1600. However, I try to to go above 1600.
