Outstanding monitor

I bought this new IPS monitor to replace an older HP monitor of the TN variety. With that old monitor, I only had to be slightly off-axis to have the colors appear to change or brightness appear to dim. This wasn't good for doing photographic editing. I spotted this HP 23es monitor on a Best Buy ad in my email. The price was so good, I had to try it.
It was a cinch to set up. I was all ready with screwdrivers and pliers and hammers and didn't need any of them. The base is simply two pieces that fit well together with a locking thumb screw. That was it. Ready to roll - well almost.
The cable included is an HDMI to HDMI, and the catch here is that my desktop has choices of either VGA or DVI. So I needed to purchase a specialty DVI to HDMI cable to make it work. But work it does. Beautiful images, with lots of menu choices for adjustments.
With some online fine-tuning sites, I've got this monitor looking its very best, and I feel the colors are more accurate than what I was using before.

The Companion 2 Series III system delivers a significant performance upgrade over your computer's conventional speakers. TrueSpace stereo digital signal processing reproduces wide, lifelike sound from just 2 speakers.

Greatly improved my desktop computer experience.

For years I've been using a pair of what I thought were decent speakers on my computer. I hadn't been looking for an audiophile experience on my desk, but thought these old Altec-Lansing speakers did a decent job - nothing earthshaking but seemingly better than a lot of speakers that are standard equipment on computers. Back even a decade-and-a-half ago, speakers on computers were largely there so we could hear the beeps and burps of Windows as we moved through the day. The sound fidelity of "The Microsoft Sound" wasn't uppermost in anyone's mind. But gradually, sounds coming from computers are much more important as whole music libraries have moved there. And while it's possible to wirelessly throw your sound these days to your big "main" system, most of the time it's just at the desk where we want the sound.
While in Best Buy recently, I found a display set-up with two different sets of Bose computer speakers including these Companion 2 models. Playing the little store demo I was impressed, but I didn't buy them then and there. Instead I went home and got one more taste of my old Altec-Lansing speakers - did some research on the Bose set, and headed back to Best Buy.
Since installing these, I've really enjoyed the sounds of my computer. My music library sounds great and I don't HAVE to put on headphones to hear it at its best. And the headphone jack on the front of the speakers is handy for those times when I don't wish to disturb others.
These Bose Companion 2 speakers bring a full range of sound that I was missing before. Good, thumping bass and nice sparkly highs nestled over a silky-smooth midrange can envelope me as I sit at my computer now.
These would work equally well as a companion to a laptop. I know a lot of computer users have gone the "small" route in their computing use. I'm still a desktop guy with a nice-sized monitor and full keyboard and mouse.
Oh - and the old "Microsoft Sound"? It sounds wonderful on these speakers!
