Keep unwanted hair to a minimum with this Philips grooming tool. The waterproof design lets you use it in the shower, and eight attachments make this trimmer perfect for grooming different sections of the face. This Philips grooming tool has a turbo setting to increase cutting speed, and it charges in just one hour to reduce wait time.

A Waterproof Groomer and Trimmer for the Shower
on November 21, 2016
Posted by: Loomis1975
from Kennewick, WA
The best feature of this groomer is that it is waterproof. The body groomer attachment worked well for shaving short leg hair in the bath by the ladies of the house. They used it with shaving gel or conditioner and preferred it over using a razor. I have used various attachments in the shower to trim various body hair down to shorter lengths. It works well. I find a dedicated nose and ear trimmer to be more useful than attachment provided here for that purpose.

An incremental upgrade like always
on November 10, 2016
Posted by: Loomis1975
from Kennewick, WA
If you didn't know, these are the entry level versions of the adobe photo and video editing software. They are now up to edition 15. They usually only offer incremental changes to functionality and this release is no different.
These new versions offer touch functionality, that's the biggest obvious difference I noticed.
Photoshop Elements also adds adjustments to batches of photos, searching photos by what appears in them, and a way to change the way the face looks (frowns into smiles, etc).
Premiere Elements has a new way to take the haze off videos, also I noticed a feature to better match videoclip and sound/music length. Its also easier to make collages of videos with photos.
Definitely worth the upgrade if you are a few versions behind and/or want to try out the touch functionality.

Fairly limited at Launch, Lots of Promise
on November 5, 2016
Posted by: Loomis1975
from Kennewick, WA
I'm comparing the Google Home to Amazon Echo as a home's smart speaker (I've had the Echo since shortly after launch, about 2 years now I think). At launch, the Google Home works fairly well, you have to register and update it via the Google Home App on your smartphone or tablet. The heart of Google Home is Google Assistant, which responds to "Ok, google" or "Hey, Google". I taught my kids to use "Hey, Google", since it is similar to "Hey Cortana" and "Hey Alexa" which work with the other two digital assistants in the house. You might have already tried Google Assistant out on the new Google Pixel smartphone.
At launch, Google Home does not work with a few things I thought it would and was advertised as features of it and in demos shown online. It does not work with TuneIn Radio, it does not work with Google Photos, i.e. you can't ask it to show pictures of "trees" from your Photo library on your TV yet. It does not work with Netflix on chromecast, in fact the only thing it works with on launch video wise with chrome casting is YouTube. It will not play individual songs from your Google Play Music library at all, but will play playlists from there. It WILL play individual songs that you have bought through the service if you have Google Play Music Premium subscription or You Tube Red subscription (which includes GPM Premium). Of course if you have YouTube Red or GPM Premium, it will play a ton of included music, similar to Amazon Prime Music or Amazon Unlimited Music. A Six Month Trial to YouTube Red is included with the purchase of the Google Home, my offer expiration date was the last day of 2016. As far as Home automation integration at launch, it will work with IFTTT and its main home automation hubs it works with are Philips Hue and Smartthings. It DOES not work with WINK, am looking forward to see if it will in the future, since that is what I use for HA. You can't add events to your Google Calendar by voice yet. You also can only supply it with ONE google account to use. It will be much more useful when the software matures a bit more and meets the launch and demo features, and hopefully well beyond.
What it does do better than Amazon Echo is contextual conversations. You can ask how old the Eiffel tower is, and then as a follow up ask "Hey Google, how tall is it?" and it will answer correctly. Also you can do a string of math questions, for instant, ask what is 8x8, it will give you the answer, then ask "Hey Google, what is the square root of THAT" and it will answer correctly and you can keep going and going with math about "that". So the contextual conversation is far more natural with Home than Echo. It also does very good spoken translations, the English to Spanish and English to German phrases I tried out were very good. It works very well asking to see something on the tv, it will start youtube videos relating to the query. If you have more than one audio or video chromecast receiving device, you just have to say which one you want the video or audio to go to, or which group. You register those chromecasts devices in groups via the Google Home App.
In summary, I think right now, the Google Home is a superior device for students and young kids for learning purposes, the contextual queries, google's search results, language translations, and asking to see things on the TV make a big difference between it and Amazon Echo.
I think Google has big plans for Google Home / Google Assistant. I just wish they would give it a more personable name to match the others, even if its as simple as something like "Homer".

Very nice high end Router made for customization
on October 27, 2016
Posted by: Loomis1975
from Kennewick, WA
This review is for the Linksys firmware on the router, not any customizable WRT or other firmware, but I am looking forward to trying those out in the future.
I set up and tried out as a WAP (Linksys calls this Bridge Mode), and as a Router. Both worked well. Linksys disables a lot of featues to keep it simple when it is used in non-router mode. That is where the customizable nature of WRT firmwares comes into play. If you want a router with the lastest features (MU-MIMO, 160 Mhz Channel Width/three stream mode to shuttle N and AC devices to different connections) AND the ability to do what you want through customizable options through WRT firmware, this router is definitely worth considering. Has a USB 3.0 port and a USB2.0/eSATA combo port. I hooked up a RAID BAY that has both USB 3.0 jack and eSATA jack (not at the same time :) and it worked well both ways with similar data throughput. The Wireless range on this compared favorably with the Linksys EA9500 router and a slightly older NETGEAR Nighthawk, so pretty good in my wifi challenging house.
Cons: I don't have any Tri-band 160 capable devices to test it with, in fact, I don't know of any out period. Mu-MIMO is not that common in devices yet either. So you might be paying for stuff you won't be using in the immediate time frame, but it should be future proof for at least a few years. It is also pretty spendy for a AC3200-ish router if you don't need the customizing ability and the high end features/specs.

Bring the power of Google directly to your fingertips with the Google Pixel. A large 32GB of storage keep data secure, while unlimited cloud storage transfers data as needed, and it's completely automatic. The large 5-inch screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4 to ensure the Google Pixel remains scratch-free.

Very nice Android phone upgrade
on October 24, 2016
Posted by: Loomis1975
from Kennewick, WA
I was provided this phone for reviewing by Best Buy.
I popped in a Verizon SIM and was off and running. 7.1 Nougat took a bit to get used to, as you have to hold the google button for a split sec and then swipe up to open the apps selection menu.
Also the back button and the currently opened apps button are on opposite sides of the home button, that also took a bit to get used for me.
The camera on this phone and the camera software works very well. Takes HDR pictures about as fast as an older phone like a Samsung S5 takes regular pictures. The pictures in lower light turn out pretty sharp as well.
Runs apps pretty well.
Cons are that it does not accept Micro SD cards for additional storage, so it might pay to get the one with more than 32GB of space if you like to keep a lot of pics and videos (and apps) on your phone at once.
Overall I would say it is very comparable to a friend of mine's Samsung Galaxy S7, feature wise, performance wise.
The Pixel is a very nice flagship level smartphone with some of the latest bells and whistles.

Its high-performance F.U.E.L. cell provides up to 30 minutes of run time, while the advanced compression technology lets it store as much dirt as typical bagless vacuums. This Bissell AirRAM cordless vacuum has a low profile for easy maneuvering around furniture.

Very useful light vacuum
on October 21, 2016
Posted by: Loomis1975
from Kennewick, WA
For a cordless stick vac, this was pretty powerful and cleaned up the carpeted stairs pretty well, which is where I tested it first. It also emptied out fairly easily. I can see this being used as a spot cleaner around the house. Also my 5 year old had no problems using it on hardwood and stone floors to spot clean. My 2 year old even used it with some help from the 5 year old. Battery charge lasts long enough for spot cleaning duty. It is rather noisy for the amount of suction generated, but I've never had a quiet stick vac that had decent suction, so I'm fine with that.

Premium Noise Canceling In Ear Headset
on October 1, 2016
Posted by: Loomis1975
from Kennewick, WA
The instructions that come with it are extremely minimalistic, but they get the job done.
Bluetooth paired to my MacBook Pro just fine.
With Noise cancelling all the way up, and music volume somewhat high, people speaking normally in the same room are inaudible. A raised voice near you sounds muffled and far away.
Raising and lowering the noise cancelling level definitely makes a difference to what you can hear, but even with noise cancelling all the way down, sounds are muffled slightly more than average headphones.
Play, Pause, Skip, and Changing the volume with the buttons on headset worked fine for me while using iTunes.
The shoulder rest thing is very light and barely noticeable.
Comes with three ear bud sizes. The ear buds are more comfortable than any other ear buds I’ve ever tried, but that being said they are still ear buds, so if you can’t stand normal ear buds, you probably won’t be able to stand these.
Overall it’s a sleek, comfortable and effective product.

Simplified my home Wi-fi
on September 19, 2016
Posted by: Loomis1975
from Kennewick, WA
Pros:
One network SSID for everything, works well.
Dedicated 4x4 Backhaul MU-MIMO from Satellite(s) to Router. This feature has good range and penetration. Best feature so far. If you cannot wire cat6 around the house or able to use Powerline AV2 to its full potential, this is the next best thing I have tried.
MU-MIMO to MU-MIMO clients that seems to work when multiple of them are accessing the network for data intensive needs.
Cons:
As of launch and very first firmware upgrade, no use for the USB2.0 ports on Router or Satellite.
USB 2.0 ports, why oh why not USB 3.0?
Not sold that MU-MIMO has matured enough to be a game changer yet.
Thoughts:
I think it compares favorably with throughput to my about 2 year old R8000 Nighthawk and recent Linksys EA9500, even without the third "outward facing" 5 Ghz band. Connected to Orbi and its satellite right now are 5 smartphones, 3 laptops, 1 desktop, 5 game consoles, home automation hub, 3 TV devices (Chromecast, android TV, Amazon Fire TV Stick, TV Antenna recording/distribution device, and 4 tablets. I didn't try to stream video on all of them at once, but did do Netflix on three devices, a recorded TV show on a fourth device, and YouTube on a laptop for a stress test. MU-MIMO might be helping, as we have at least 4 devices that can use it, and I did see some benefit to the Linksys EA9500 that could do MU-MIMO that the Orbi just replaced.
I am testing a Orbi I received to review from Best Buy and color me impressed. My house is big, two levels, but 1960 construction, wiring is older in most places (no ground wiring), powerline adapters only work well to/from a few select outlets. Walls, Floors and a 3 Chimney-wide brick wall directly in the middle of the house from basement through the roof do a decent job of killing Wi-Fi. I went from a Nighthawk R8000 with 2 higher end extenders that did okay but with signal loss/unreliability in some areas/in general to a Linksys EA9500 recently with its buddy range extender so you could do seamless roaming, that really had about the same level of effectiveness. I added a few powerline adapters where I could to make things better, but had to put APs on them because their location to get a good powerline signal was not ideal for the devices I was trying to connect with them.
The things that I think really hurt the older setups was one, just the Wi-Fi killing environment, and two, way too many wireless signals flying around with multiple extenders and access points off of powerline adapters. The Orbi definitely helps with number two. Like always, time will tell.
Router has 3 Ethernet ports available for clients, Satellite has 4.
My Orbi Router and Satellite placement is kind of typical of Netgear's best use for this product, Router attached to Modem on one edge of the house, top level, Satellite located in the middle of the house, top level, near edge of Wi-Fi killing Chimney.

Actually does what it says.
on September 17, 2016

When I read the box I assumed "Infusion Technology that unlocks the full flavor of your coffee" was marketing hogwash. Boy was I wrong.
I have tried a lot of 'flavored' beans and never really tasted them with my regular old coffee pot, so I typically get 'Hazelnut and cinnamon' cause it tastes the least offensive.
I put it in this machine, brewed it on rich, and did my typical cup o joe (hazelnut milk and a bit of chocolate syrup) and the taste...oh my... totally different than I ever expected from a cup of coffee at home. It really did bring out the flavors of the coffee I had never been able to taste before. I handed the cup to my friend, who usually is fairly ambivalent about coffee. Her eyes popped open and she said "Woah, what did you do to it?" When I told her I didn't do anything I don't normally do to my regular coffee, she didn't believe me. So I had her make a cup herself.
Every day this week we have fought over who gets the first cup, and probably will well in to the future. This opens a whole new coffee world for my taste buds, and I can't wait to get more coffee and see what they taste like.
My only negative mention of this is the whisk, it is cute, but really...not as useful as one would imagine. The filter is also hard to clean for someone used to putting grounds in compost, the grounds stick inside and make a mess when I try to bang them out, but I think that would be true for any reusable filter.

Pretty Powerful Pet Household Vacuum
on September 1, 2016
Posted by: Loomis1975
from Kennewick, WA
The swivel head took a bit to get use to. Has pretty good suction. The vacuum is fairly easy to clean up, but if you have longer/bundled hairs you are vacuuming up, still have to cut them off the rollers eventually. Empties pretty easy. I liked the lighted crevice tool. Have to adjust height for your surface, but is easy to do so. Easier to put tools on the wand thing most times, stays attached better. Works well for cleaning off furniture too.

As far as pc compatibility. Is it wired only or Bluetooth? also can I run 2 of them on my PC at once. Like for co op emulators and 2 player games

It is wired only, no batteries.

As far as multiple controllers, I only have the one, can't test 2 of them at once. On my PC right now, I have a Xbox Controller connected via bluetooth and this controller via USB and they are working like normal two controllers for co-op in Humans fall flat. The app for Xbox/PC really only looks like for programming one of them at once. You can rename your controller in the app, so maybe you plug one in, name it, program it, save profile, then unplug, plug the other one in, name it different, program it, save profile. Then plug both in and off you go? Not sure though.
