Great Powerline Adapter
on August 11, 2016
Posted by: Loomis1975
from Tri-Cities, WA
Worked as well as could be expected in my situation. This device uses the best connection on the powerline between the three available wires. My house for the most part, does not have any ground wires to outlets, and this adapter still did a good job taking the internet signal out to my Wireless access point on the far side of the house from the Router. The signal probably would have been better and the speed faster if I had ground wires, but the fact that it still worked well with just the hot and neutral wires is a thumbs up in my book. Good for homes with thick walls/plaster/brick, etc which kill wireless signals, maybe wireless Range Extenders less than optimal.

Great Top End Future Proof Home Router
on May 21, 2016

I received this device for review. I changed out my high end Netgear Nighthawk X6, that is about a year and a half old. The basic stats on both routers are very similar, long range, handle a lot of devices well, tri-band with smart routing and beamforming. And their basic performances are pretty similar. The big difference is that the Linksys router has Max-Stream features like Seamless Roaming with other Linksys Max Stream devices and has MU-MIMO networking capability. I do not have any of the new fancy MU-MIMO client devices to test that feature with, but the Linksys Max Stream devices that do Seamless Roaming (This EA9500 router, an EA7500 router running as a wireless repeater, and a RE7000 Range Extender) seem to be using MU-MIMO between each other. The Seamless Roaming is a great feature, no more separate SSIDs for extender networks. I have to have extenders due to a lot of wireless network killing material inside my house, like the massive brick wall that is three chimneys side by side centrally located, and something between my floors that seems to eat wireless signals. The multi-user MIMO should come in handy as older electronics in the house are supplanted by newer ones, I'm thinking new cell smartphones this year will be the first thing most people will have that can utilize MU-MIMO.
Linksys wants you to use a Speedtest built into the web browser of the router, but it relies on Adobe Flash software, so not that easy to get to run these days.

Decent Entry Level Tablet with a big screen
on May 21, 2016
Posted by: Loomis1975
from Kennewick, WA
This was my first 10 inch android tablet since the Motorola Xoom quite a few years back. 10 inch tablets are definitely an adjustment coming from smaller tablets or smartphones in how you handle them. Have not found a kids type protective cover for this model yet, am probably going to get a leather one for some protection. This tablet's screen touch feature is very very sensitive. Have racked up more unintended mistakes using the touch feature than I have on all other touch devices in the house by far. The 1 gig of system ram is a little on the low side by today's standards, and I get system messages all the time to free up ram usage, but it is an entry level device. Makes a nice E-reader if you are coming from reading on a smartphone.
All in all, this tablet is on par running android apps and programs compared to a year old mid to high end smartphone, so take that in consideration when purchasing.

Prevent dead zones around your home with the help of this Linksys Wi-Fi range extender. It works with all types of Wi-Fi routers, and it uses multi-user MIMO for speed and efficiency. This Linksys Wi-Fi range extender can be used to create a different access point or to extend the field of the router’s connection.

Seamless Roaming works with Max-Stream Devices
on May 21, 2016

I tested this unit along with a Linksys EA9500 Max Stream Router and a Linksys EA7500 Max Stream Router acting like a wireless repeater. All have the same 2.4ghz and 5ghz network SSID names. The seamless roaming feature works well between the three devices in a large multi story house with a signal killing centrally located three fireplace wide brick wall that is the main problem with wireless in the house. The range on this RE7000 is slightly less than the EA7500 router when being used as a similar device, a wireless repeater, but it does not have any external antenna. I have a device plugged into the ethernet port on this unit, and it works well. No complaints, I like not having different SSIDs for the extender parts of the network. I do not have any MU-Mimo devices to test the increased throughput from these max stream products yet.

Good Future Proof Router
on February 6, 2016
Posted by: Loomis1975
from Kennewick, WA
I received this free as a part of the Best Buy Tech Insider program.
I do not have a MU-MIMO enabled device to test with this router. I did test it with many AC, N, G, and even one old B, 802.11 devices on the frequencies they are available on, 2.4 (B, G, N) and 5 ghz (N, AC).
There are hardly any MU-MIMO devices on the market to get the full potential out of this router as of my review.
MU-MIMO is like talking back and forth to 5 people at once. Regular MIMO (all WiFi prior to MU-MIMO) is like talking to person A for one second, then talking to person B for one second, etc, then waiting to talk to person A again only after you have talked to the 5th person in the loop. This time-slicing, while efficient because a machine is managing it, is obviously slower than doing all the talking concurrently.
The biggest advantage for MU-MIMO is data intensive things like video going to multiple wireless devices at the same time. As long as your router wireless speed and internet/video/data provider can keep up, will be able to have multiple streams of high resolution video going to multiple devices without a hiccup, In theory.
The first MU-MIMO enabled devices a lot of consumers will buy and not even realize it will be new models of cell phones released in 2016.
I ran this router as a wireless bridge to my main router and as a full router (handling its own DHCP), and also as an access point (linksys calls this bridge) to my main router (passing DHCP responsibilities to main router). Wireless Repeater is also another option which I did not try.
In comparison to my high end Netgear R8000 router from circa 1 year ago, the wireless speed to the same AC devices was very similar, when limiting the R8000 to a single 5 ghz channel instead of its usual two channels, which it uses for balancing purposes. The range at which connection speed dropped off was also very similar, just slightly lower on the Linksys.
I have to assume the beamforming transmission to AC devices on 5ghz is working about as well as the Netgear R8000. My house is hard on wireless signals, the 3 big chimney stacks all together in the center of the house kill signals pretty reliably, but this Linksys did well also when communicating and providing the internet to my Netgear EX6200 Extender for the far side of the house from the main router.
All in all, it was very easy to setup, and will be a good mainstream router for the newer devices coming out with MU-MIMO enabled wireless, for those who stream several HD-video, PC Gaming, or other large data streams at the same time.
My Best Buy number: 056141781
What's great about it: Very good range on 5ghz to Wireless AC devices, very good speed
What's not so great: Hardly any MU-MIMO devices on market yet to justify its purchase

Basic Robotic Vacuum
on November 30, 2015
Posted by: Loomis1975
from Kennewick, WA
This little guy works great on the main level of my house, all hardwood and tile floors. It would not transition up onto any of the area rugs, but they are pretty thick with thick pads. Its smallness does come in handy getting under chair support bars and lower overhead areas.
The first time I ran it, it was pretty loud on the hardwood, so I left. It didn't make it back to the charger, it had found a cat toy wand with cloth rope lead and wound that rope lead around one of its axles. It errored out and awaited my return. I totally had not seen the offending object before setting it to run. It took a bit to get the rope out, but I set it to return to the charging station to test that. That is when I noticed it seems as completely random in attempting to find its way back to the charge station as it does in determining its cleaning path(s). It would probably be a lot more efficient from a battery use and return to charger standpoint and reliable on the cleaning if it had more smarts on the position tracking, but that is probably in the arena of a much more expensive unit.
The outer rotating brushes seem to do a good job pushing dust and small debris into the main vacuum area. Those outer brushes worked really well running along the walls.
It will not replace weekly or bi-weekly cleaning on the floors, but it should really help with keeping it clean during the week.
The electronic wall seems to work for about 10 feet of distance. The scheduling function of the base worked when I tested it, but I will probably just use it manually when needed due to the noise level where I can assure that it won't be bothering anybody.
The noise was only slightly louder on turbo mode, and not much difference in the amount of debris/hair picked up from the hardwood.
All in all a decent basic robotic vacuum assistant.
My Best Buy number: 0561417811
What's great about it: Works very well on hardwood floors, especially at the walls.
What's not so great: Fairly loud when on hardwood floors, won't transition from hardwood to most area rugs, doesn't track position.

Works great with newer laptops, Surfaces, WP8.1
on March 15, 2015

I got this for my wife to use after finding out the hard way the Fire TV Stick is NOT a miracast device. She wanted to use the big tv in the den as a teaching display for a kid's Unity programming class without an HDMI cable running through the room. My Nokia 1520 Windows Phone 8.1 works very well with this, as does any number of newer laptops / surface tablets, higher end phones, pretty much anything that is running windows 8.1 and is relatively recent or has intel WiDi / Miracast features built in that you can upgrade the firmware/software on. My wife's Samsung Galaxy S5 will work with this as well. Supposedly her older Galaxy S4 will work as well, but haven't tried that one out. This is a very handy tool to have to complement a Chromecast, Fire TV Stick, and Apple TV. What they need to come out with now is a wifi usb adapter that has Miracast compatible WiDi built into it, so you can cast from older desktops or laptops running windows 7/8.1.

This was good for a family viewing in 3D for an action movie. The storyline didn't seem to be up to par, I found the first reboot movies plot to be better, even though it had some plot holes as well. Still a good action movie in its own right.

Good replacement Front Loader
on September 30, 2012
Posted by: Loomis1975
from Tri-Cities, WA
Bought this to replace a dead Kenmore Front Loader from about 13 years ago. The price on these things hasn't changed very much over the years, but the features and electronic controls have.
Does take a while to do a load of laundry, but the bigger capacity 3.6 cubic feet versus 3.1 of the old one helps out, as does the sanitize mode and the pure cycle (empty washer cleaning mode).
Child lock works well, as does the feature to add another garment to the washer for the first bit of time that the cycle is running.
What's great about it: Good Price, Features, Easy to get to filter for cleaning
What's not so great: Takes a long time to do a load

can i connect wireless speakers to it

I could not hook Bluetooth speakers up to this using the Bluetooth functionality. It seems the only output from this unit is in the form of recording to a USB flash drive. Bluetooth did work fine sending audio from a phone.

I can hook up and play my Dual turntable with this?

If your dual turntable has Stereo RCA left/right jacks (Red/White) then you can hook it up to this. Those jacks are on the back of the main unit. Alternatively you could get a RCA to headphone jack cable and plug it into the front aux jack.

You can only set it up with one Google Account. And anyone that can talk to it and give it the proper commands, "Hey Google, play playlist XXX from Google Music" can listen to your music from Google Play Music. Doesn't matter if your phone is around or not.
