Gears of War Judgement provides bold new ideas to the series in both campaign and multiplayer that completely pay off in the end. The beautiful campaign immerses you in a story as the characters observe and comment on their environment in the moment. Enemy AI even attempts to provide a new experience to the gamer as semi-random spawning is implemented so a somewhat different experience can occur each time (such as different enemies faced and directions they come from). The story and gameplay really shines with the new Declassify system. These are optional objectives that challenge your gameplay through stronger enemies and other handicaps such as shortage of time, ammo, and more. These sections also increase another new addition, the scoring system. Scoring is based on similar ideas from things normally done in multiplayer to earn points in the form of ribbons such as executions, head shots, using specific weapons, etc. The score rating can be fast tracked by taking on the Declassified sections to obtain the possible max score for each level. Although Judgment's multiplayer may not live up to that of Gears of War 3 in the long run, its faster and more violent gameplay along with character customizations and new modes such as Domination and Overrun (human vs. locust mode) can provide a substantial amount of gameplay and experiences to last for some time.
What's great about it: New weapons and skills with a rewarding difficulty and scoring system
What's not so great: Teammate AI can sometimes be unreliable

Long before he tore down the walls of Olympus, before he was known as "The Ghost of Sparta" and before only rage consumed every fiber of his being, Kratos was a mere mortal. After being tricked by Ares into murdering his wife and child — the only people he ever loved — Kratos has broken the blood oath that bound him to Ares and has sworn to avenge the deaths of his family. But oaths to Olympus are not so easily broken.Return to Greece and become the legendary Spartan general, Kratos, in God of War: Ascension. Embark on a gut-wrenching journey for salvation from the guilt that tortures your soul as you fight to punish those responsible for taking what's most precious to you and avenge the deaths of your wife and child. New combat and puzzle mechanics build on the epic God of War gameplay, and now for the first time in the God of War franchise, you can take the battle online and fight in brutal eight-player, objective based combat. Align yourself to Zeus, Hades, Poseidon or Ares and earn their Favor to gain unique customization options. Fight through the madness that plagues your mind as you spill the blood of the guilty to free yourself from the chains that bind you. When you've lost everything, the only escape is through Ascension.

Kratos' weakest outing yet.

As an avid God of War series fan, it is disappointing to say God of War Ascension is Kratos' weakest reveal thus far. Following its predecessor God of War 3 with its large scale, Ascension isn't nearly as memorable. Its second rate villains and reproduction of numerous enemies from previous games can sometimes feel dull. As it is a prequel to the franchise, this as well as some of the advancements in Kratos himself (despite the difference in time) is understandable. Despite only using the Blades of Chaos, Ascension provides very satisfying combat but falls short on enemy AI. Unlike previous titles where AI can be a challenge at times, Ascension instead provides a multitude of enemies on screen that can make gameplay confusing for newer or not as experienced players. This is of course different for one portion of the game, The Trials of Archimedes, that can frustrate even the most skilled players. On top of combat advancements, Ascension provides occasions of when the sheer scale of the game makes you appreciate just how far this series has come. New introductions such as multiplayer provides a fresh addition to the previously single-player only series. Although these modes are fun, they don't exactly provide the depth to make this a lasting experience.
What's great about it: Immaculately presented game with great combat as always
What's not so great: Forgettable story

As a fan of the Assassin's Creed franchise, I am more than ready for AC3 which will bring a story that will be bigger and better than those of the previous installments. The new assassin is half Native American and half British, you are the warrior son Conner who will not allow the brink of the American revolution to threaten his clan. AC3 brings an all new gaming engine ANVIL NEXT that not only brings about new graphics and AI technology, but an overall better playing experience with things like dynamic weather, seasons, and time, that all affect the world around you in its own way. A dramatically expanded combat and stealth system follows with new weapons and ways in which to take out your enemies. With its own take on the past, AC3 will bring an experience more alive than any history book ever could.

For a fan of the Ninja Gaiden series, Ninja Gaiden 3 shys away from various elements that have made it so successful in the past. It's still brings the blood and gore hack and slash gameplay and vivid graphics but apart from that much has changed. Ryu now only carries the katana as the main weapon through the entire game, and arrows are now infinite with less damage dealt respectively. The entire concept of the infected evil arm is more of an annoying hindrance that does not develop much from there. The skill needed to pre-plan a way of attack is no longer needed as the difficulty of the enemy AI is almost gone. Although sometimes fun, another difference is the boss battles which are now cinematic button pressed sequences (Example: press "A" when it appears on screen). This game also brings a completely unneeded competitve online multiplayer apart from the main campaign. For fans of the series, Ninja Gaiden 3 is one ninja game that should just be left in the shadows.
What's not so great: A let down for a fan of the series

Epic Mickey is back with Disney's Epic Mickey 2 and with it comes for the first time, multiplatform play for all major consoles. Unlike the previous installment, all characters will have speaking roles during the game. This brings a more ineractive experience and another first, and Disney history I might add, the character Oswald will have a voice for the first time. With similar family fun to the first game, it brings back bright colors and now has drop in multiplayer. This means at any time during the game, a family member or friend can pick up the controller and by a simple split of the screen join in as Oswald. This will be another family friendly Disney adaptation that can be experienced by all.
What's great about it: Great family fun

South Park the Game is an upcoming RPG that brings you into South Park as the "new kid" and make friends with the main characters of the show: Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny. The player goes through the game as a "class" that is picked at the start of the game, for example there will be a "Jew" class, and progresses through the story with a script from Trey Parker and Matt Stone (South Park creators, overseeing the entire game). For fans of the serious and those who want to enjoy a hilarious good time, South Park the Game will be a must buy for you.

Unlike the previous installment of this series, UFC Undisputed 3 is a breath of fresh air for fans of MMA and newcomers alike. The tutorials implemented in the game are immersive and easy to pick up. Unlike the last game, the complex control scheme (still available for those who like it) is taken away and is replaced with much simpler well-handled gameplay and controls. The varied features such as PRIDE brings a new aspect of MMA history and the difference of rules between UFC and PRIDE really make this game shine. The game also boasts very good animations with the only downfall in some of the complex training exercises. Otherwise, UFC 3 is a game worth checking out even if you don't care for MMA or fighting game. See you in the octagon!
What's great about it: Easy to pick up and play controls
What's not so great: A few complex training exercises in the game

For all those who remember SSX Tricky, SXX is finally back and is still the best extreme snowboarding game there is. There are new control mechanics that work very well and are easy to pick up as well as classic controls available for fans of the previous game. The only real issue is the in-game store that isn't explained and is designed poorly. Otherwise, SSX is bigger and better than before and even more challenging with the runs increasing in difficulty as the story progresses.
What's great about it: Very fun to play

In the new MK release the story is a re-telling of the first three MK games but is still very impressive and unique. The campaign is broken into chapters in which you play a single character as the story progresses. The characters are moved from one engaged cutscene to the next to set up each fight. Also, no fatality is done during the story as it would kill off the characters involved in the plot. Besides the story, MK offers the old school arcade ladder where you face enemies at random and finally the bosses. There is also a tag mode which puts you and another character of your choice against two other characters until the bosses are reached. MK also offers a challenge tower that include a rediculous amount of challenges and mini games. Basically every action in the game grants coints which can be spent of unlockables such as alternate costumes, concept art, other fatalities, and more. All of this can be done in grim location known as the Krypt. Mortal Kombat offers a large character list with variations to classic characters as well. Along with fatality and babality Mk offers X-Ray movers and special moves as well as combo breakers all used from a super meter that builds as you fight.
What's great about it: The diverse campaign, bits and pieces of other MK games all mixed into one great game.
What's not so great: Boss battles make you just want to throw the controller.

Crysis 2 is a visually stunning first person shooter that starts you off as the marine Alcatraz. As disaster strikes you appear to be left for dead along with your fellow marines. You are saved by Prophet of the original Crysis and subjected to the life he once had and now have to save the city of NY. Now this is only the beginning of what is Crysis 2. With the ability of cloak giving you brief invisibility or armor mode making you seem like a walking talk, your options of how to play the game is your choice. This also comes into affect with silenced weapons, diverted paths like sewer tunnels and rooftops, and much more. Unlike some shooters, Crysis 2 has a campaign of decent length that really meshes well as you come to understand just what Crysis is all about. The multiplayer is almost like a merge of fast paced halo reach with COD weaponry and controls. To top it all of your nanosuit has specific upgrade functions to fit your individual play style.
What's great about it: Easy to pick up and play multiplayer and an excellent visually presented campaign that can be unique with each play.
What's not so great: Minor glitches and tweaks eg. walking in campaign and randomly fell off the map in free fall? FAIL

Some people have the ability to go to conventions such as E3 and CES among others, such as the most recent one in Florida, that showed off many of the games to be released then and now (such as AC3) as playable (not the full game of course), which gives a general feel of what to expect from the final product. For those who cannot, many gaming websites such as G4, Joystiq, etc. provide screenshots as well as actual game play and trailers that provide a good sense of what to expect even though you are not physically playing the game.
