MOTOROLA XOOM has a super-powerful dual-core processor and Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) -- the Android platform designed specifically for tablets. With its 10.1-inch HD widescreen display, you'll enjoy HD video in a thin, light, and powerful tablet. Motorola XOOM 00001NARGNLX 32 GB Tablet - Refurbished - Wi-Fi - Black

Great After Learning Curve

I have had the opportunity of playing with both the iPad and Xoom after owning both. So I will compare both.
GUI -
iPad - I first owned the iPad and after playing with it I can see it as a tablet for beginners. Right out of the box anyone can use it. The GUI is straight forward and easy to use. The icons are nice but the notifications were obtrusive, always stopping me in the middle of what I was doing until I dismissed them.
Xoom - When i first started playing with the Xoom it took me a little while to figure out where everything was and how to run it. Afterwards I was "xooming" right along. Everything was intuitive and responsive. The notification system is nice as it showed up in the right hand corner without interrupting what I was doing.
Winner - Xoom
Software -
iPad - The iPad does have a significant number of apps out there which gives it an advantage. But as it has had a year head start that will soon become a moot point. Apps made for the ipod touch are set in their native resolution with the ability to magnify 2x. They look pixelated but not unusable.
Xoom - The xoom has few tablet dedicated apps but that is slowly changing. Its native ability to expand each phone app to full size is nice with graphics being a little fuzzy but not as bad as the iPad. Some of the apps did lag or stall upon loading but that should be fixed with updates.
Winner - iPad (For now)
Internet -
iPad - The wifi iPad sped right along when connected to wireless routers but stalled when tethered to my phone. Safari is nice but lack of tab support and having to pop up other pages was annoying. But there are browsers out there in the app store that would do that no problem.
Xoom - As with the iPad the Xoom sped right along when connected to wireless routers but had no problems when being tethered to my phone. Tab browsing is nice and is something that should come standard right out of the box (hint hint Apple).
Winner - Xoom
Hardware -
iPad - The iPad/iPad 2 have decent specs in terms of hardware making it responsive and fast. I did not use the cameras on the iPad 2 but the resolutions from what I have read are nowhere near that of the Xoom.
Xoom - The Xoom's duo-core proc and gig of ram makes the biggest of apps fly right along with little notice of slowing down. The cameras are as what you would expect, 5 MP with HD playback made for some good pictures, not as good as my Droid X but comparable. The 2 MP front camera is more pixelated but given it's normal use of web cam about par with the computer equivalents.
What's also nice is the Gorilla Glass screen that makes the tablet very scratch resistant. Even if it makes the Xoom slightly more heavy than the iPad.
Winner - Xoom
Overall - Right now the iPad has the advantage of its 65,000 apps but the Xoom will eventually catch up. Given the learning curve of the Xoom, even with owning an android phone, causes it to not be as quick to play with right out of the box. However, if you spend enough time with it, it becomes very hard to put down or use anything else. Honeycomb is new and as with all new software it has bugs. But given the software cycle Google uses, those problems will be short lived. If you want simplicity go with an iPad. If you want customizability go with a Xoom.
What's great about it: Honeycomb, Quick, long battery life,
What's not so great: SD card not usable yet, lack of apps
I would recommend this to a friend!

Doesn't fufill needs and doesn't live expectation
By JWelsh from Princeton, NJ
I bought my Xoom the day it came out, tried using it to fulfill my college needs. Had it for a few and returned it. I'm not one of those weird "fanboys" so you count on my review as non bias, and justified by user experience. There are things that Motorola promised which aren't present right now. Flash support is still disabled, SD is not working, and for those who rooted your Xoom you might as well say goodbye to 4G support which that too isn't even out yet. Adding to my frustration when I browsed through the market there were less than 200 apps specifically optimized for the Xoom meaning when you download a non-tablet optimized app, it won't look nor function right. Even those 200 tablet optimized apps, some of them such as Angry Birds somehow lags momentarily and at times force closes for me.
My advice: buy a tablet where you can actually trust the company to deliver not waiver. Ex. LG G Slate, iPad 2, and the upcoming Asus EePad. Avoid Motorola and Samsung

Rooting and 4g

Motorola has stated that 4g support will come to Xoom regardless of it's root status or not.
