Comparable to a Crane
on January 22, 2016

This unit functions very similar to a crane, with a slight price increase likely due to the licensing and incredible design. It legitimately looks like a Vader helmet and could easily be displayed on an entertainment center when not in use. Of course, it also looks awesome in the open while running.
The internal tank is a bit smaller than competitors of the same class, however I like that it sits flat when filling (the crabs we have used all have a strange shape that requires holding the tank while filling; we will with purified water and this can be a pain in those units. This unit, as a result, is very easy to fill.
The but isn't completely silent, although I wouldn't call it distracting. In a completely silent room one notices a very faint hum. This is likely just the fan, and sounds very much like a very quit computer fan. I point this out because our cranes are absolutely silent. If this was my first unit of just assume it's par for the course because it really isn't distracting oh loud to begin with.
The On/off knob is on the back, which is nice from an aesthetic viewpoint, but less nice in terms of functionality. Our unit is relatively close to a wall and it would be easier to turn it on from the front. That said, it's really nice that there are no visible knobs in the front. A small sacrifice for the amazing looks.
We bought the extended warranty but if it ever breaks I expect I'll keep it as a display piece. It really is THAT cool looking. I'm considering picking up the R2 unit as well for another room.

Upgrade from the ironman series
on May 10, 2013

I would like to start by making prospective buyers aware that if your buds don't fit properly, yurbuds leaves detailed instructions on how to get some custom tips mailed to you, for free. As such, I don't feel "it doesn't fit right" is a valid complaint, unless of course you are unable to take five minutes of your time to send yurbuds the necessary information for a proper fitting bud. While I hadn't done this, my wife, who apparently has really small ears had to (before the women's series was released) and she can attest to the comfort and better fit of the custom offering.
As far as these earbuds, I feel that they are an upgrade to their previous lineup in almost every way. I had the ironman series for a year and a half until the buttons finally ceased working (they were drenched in buckets of sweat under that amount of time). Overall I loved them and would certainly have kept using them.
I am loving the braided cord. Their other cords are so thin that, while they look quite nice while in use, become a rat's nest when you throw them in a bag, pocket, whatever. They have always provided a small carrying pouch, which is nice, but sometimes I just need to get my workout in and get going. Minor issue, but hey, they fixed it with this set of buds. The cord is also a reflective material, which is a nice touch for those who are active at dawn/dusk or even sundown.
Next is allowing ambient noise through. While I am sure some people may be annoyed by this, I think this is a wonderful and necessary safety feature, especially for those who workout outside. If you run/bike in an area of heavy vehicle or pedestrian traffic, earbuds that blockout most/all sound can be pretty hazardous. I felt these buds were a pretty good combination between allowing me to hear my music versus hearing the world around me. For me, that is a fair trade-off and one that I am happy to make. I feel safer and more aware on my runs as a result.
The pouch that it comes with is also a pretty nice neoprene pouch, and is much nicer than that which comes with their other models. While this isn't really something I cared one way or the other about (I think I used the pouch on my old buds maybe a dozen times), it is something I noticed.
As far as the on-cord buttons/mic, I am torn. I like the fact that it is so small (look at the ironman series, its a gigantic "Y" shape that I simply can;t understand the design of). They did remove the volume up/down buttons, so all you really are able to do with it is pause, stop, and skip tracks, as well as talk and activate google now or Siri. I do, on occasion, change the volume of my music, so I certainly miss not having that.
Overall, I think this is the best design out there for sport earbuds that don't go around the ear (can't stand those). Had they kept volume controls intact, I would have given this model a perfect score.
What's great about it: Braided and reflective cord, ambient noise comes through to hear surroundings
What's not so great: No volume toggle

Lasted 1.5 years of sweat drenched workouts
on May 10, 2013

I bought these buds about a year and a half ago when yurbuds only made this one set (or at least that is all that Best Buy carried at the time). Just last week the buttons completely stopped working, although the sound was just fine. I like to skip tracks, especially during runs, so I opted for another set. I went with a different model (still yurbuds) because I saw they had one with a braided cord. While they did ultimately fail, I would say that a year and a half of 5+ days a week of sweating all over these things, they did what they were supposed to do.
One drawback to these was that the fit loosened over time. It wasn't immediate, in fact I only started noticing it over the past few months, but it was noticeable (earbuds would fall out relatively easily even though they were the perfect fit). Not a dealbreaker, and I think if you write to yurbuds they will replace the silicone pieces for you, but something to mention.
While I did really like the toggles, I thought the buttons took up an exorbitant amount of space. They are also hard plastic. Again, not a dealbreaker, but a bit of a strange design. I did use the mic a couple dozen times through the life of these buds, and didn't receive any complaints that I sounded different, so that is a plus.
If you workout heavily, I recommend the geek squad protection on these. It's only a couple of bucks, and will likely save you a chunk of change (I think this model was $60 when I bought it). I also recommend looking into some yurbud's newer models, as I think they have made quite a few clever improvements on the product.
What's great about it: Takes a beating for a long time
What's not so great: cord is thin and therefore tangles very easily
I would recommend this to a friend!

I'd rather just buy an upright...
on July 12, 2011

Let's just go over all of the categories Best Buy gives you for rating a product.
Value for Price: This thing is only $50 cheaper than the standard upright, yet the upright will do your whole house. This products touts being a "set it and forget it" type of device, but that isn't so (more on that a little later). It does come packaged with enough cleaner to do a dozen or so (maybe more) spots, so you are ready to go out of the box.
Quality: Strong thick plastics. Doesn't feel cheap at all. Brush heads are actually really nice and adapt to the height of your carpet. I suspect this product will last a long time. No problems here.
Features: I can;t really think of a feature it's lacking. You can "set it and forget it" (again, not really), or you can use the hose. Super easy to fill (there is a water fill line followed by a cleaner fill line) as well as a maximum line for waste water. Both containers are spill proof so you don't have to worry about getting water everywhere.
Performance: This is where this product failed me. If you have relatively plush carpets, there is no way in hell the "set it and forget it" feature is going to work for you. Sure it will get the stain up, but it just leaves far too much water behind, to the point that if you step there, you feel the water sloshing up through the carpet. The solution we came up with is that you have to use the attachment suction. This works wonderfully, except for the fact that we didn't buy this product to have to get on our hands and knees to clean it. Isn't the point of this thing to take the work out of cleaning the mess up?
Bottom line is, if you are torn between this and an upright, just get the upright. You will be able to do your entire home. We are currently renting, so we get a free professional carpet shampooing yearly. We just needed a product to clean up the occasional pet vomit. This product is compact, so with the limited space we have an upright wouldn't work. When we buy a house I will definitely invest in an upright over this item.
Would I recommend to a friend? I guess it depends on the circumstances, as I mentioned above. For the sake of this review I will say "yes".
What's great about it: compact, easy to set up, comes with plenty of carpet shampoo to get you started
What's not so great: doesn't dry carpet well
I would recommend this to a friend!

Unfortunately Best Buy doesn't allow users to udpate reviews... odd
After about siz weeks of use, I had to take these back. The cable started fraying near the port and I eventually lost sound in the left earbud. I believe this to be a design issue, not a defect as the hard plastic causes a constant rubbing while doing any sort of physical activity with no give whatsoever.
I didn't have this issue with the standard buds they sell, but those have a rubberized coating. As much as I wanted to keep loving these for the braided anti tangle feature, if they are going to wear out after a few short weeks, they are a no go for me. My previous buds lasted a year and a golf of 15+ hours a week of workouts, but the buttons eventually failed on those too. I can understand 1.5 years of daily sweat killing the thing, but not a simple six weeks of use.
