Miyazaki Delivers Again: PS4's Must Own Exclusive
on March 24, 2015

The creator of Demon's Souls & Dark Souls sets yet another benchmark for hack and slash - action RPG's, as Bloodborne delivers on every turn.
I've played about 5 hours already, haven't beaten the first boss yet, and have died numerous times and I've never had more fun doing it over again. Combat and mechanics are very tight, leaving little to no leeway when landing devastating blows. If you're even a hair late on avoiding a foes attack or sending one of your own, it will most likely lead to your death.
For those who haven't played a Souls game before, the game is very unforgiving. You will die a ton, but it will teach you to slow down your combat mechanics, figure out the perfect time to strike the enemy, and which moves to use to help down your bosses. Because of this progress is very rewarding. If you need help during enemy encounters you can summon friends to come help you at almost any time, and leave hints for others to help their journeys as well.
In terms of graphics Bloodborne is no "Order 1886", but it's not bad at all. The art style makes up for what lacks in the graphics department and you'll be constantly set in gloomy areas, and surrounded by even darker enemies. The only complaint I have so far is some pretty bad load times, which if you're dying a lot, you'll experience a lot of. They last around 30-45 seconds, but is a small hitch in an otherwise outstanding game which can definitely be patched later.
Buy this game, you will not regret it. And bring an extra pair of clothes for your character, you're about to spill lots and lots of blood. Everywhere!

Courage and honor. The protection of the weak. Nobility and honesty. Skill in combat. Leadership. When you think of knights, there are a few qualities that come to mind. No matter who you ask, from nearly any time in the last handful of centuries, you'll get the same answers every time — because to earn the title of a knight, you must possess the nature of a hero. Would the same hold true in an alternate universe? Will the meaning of a knight always be upheld?See if you possess the qualities of a true knight and join The Order, an elite community of knights that has been engaged in a centuries-old war — a war that will determine the course of history forever. Even in this unique version of Victorian-era London, the knights fight on the side of good, attempting to protect man from a powerful and ancient foe. So harness the technologically advanced weaponry, gather your courage and fight for honor — it's your duty.

The Best Interactive Movie You'll Play All Year
on February 21, 2015

I can't say I'd call The Order a video game, but it may just be the best tech demo you'll play all year.
I'm only about half way through but I can tell you right now a lot of the negative reviews out there will touch on the "gameplay" or lack there of. This game is heavy on QTE #Quick Time Events# - Press Square, Press X, Tap X, etc. There are shooting and other action sections which are quite enjoyable, but for the most part it's QTEs. If you hate these or are looking for a more run & gun action storyline this game is not for you.
It's also rather short from what I've read #5-6 hours# but if you take your time like me you could easily stretch it between 8-9. And while I can't comment on any end game replayability since I haven't beaten yet, it seems quite shallow if anything at all.
The one positive? This is the best looking game on next gen consoles yet. It's beautiful. So good that it makes you wish you actually had a game to care about while watching The Order. It set out to be the next Heavy Rain and while it succeeded in looks it failed on story.
If you can find it for a good price, $35 would be my sweet spot, pick it up. At worst it could be THE showcase game to show off your system to any non-gamers. If you're looking to pay full price and expect a full SP/MP experience you will be sorely disappointed.

Destiny: A Glimpse Into The Future
on September 13, 2014

I've been waiting to put up my review of Destiny since I wanted to get some quality time with it, being online centric and all. Got up to about Level 20 and went through every planet, so what did I think?
The game is solid. It's not great, but not that bad either. The plus side to all of this is having Bungie behind the helm. A great developer can make the best out of any bad situation and I feel like that's how Destiny is. A really solid, fluid game with just not a lot of content.
Missions on Planets can get very repetitive, but the looting and content brings an added attraction to running through those. When you're sick of the main storyline you can head online and visit what I consider a next gen Halo-style gameplay.
The game is fun with friends, okay by yourself (matchmaking is smooth as ever, a given from Bungie) but I just don't think there's enough content. Right now.
They plan on doing community style missions and raids during the weekends and obviously there's a ton of content on the way, so on that alone I would definitely consider this game a buy and not just a rental. It gives you an early taste of what a lot of MP centric games will look and play like in the future.
It's not amazing, but it has it's moments. Lots of them. And they're usually with friends which makes it that much more fun.
A solid 4/5
What's great about it: Great Co-Op Interaction, Smooth Online MP
What's not so great: Online centric, Repetitive Missions, Short on Content (For now)

Every moment counts when your team takes the ice. You grip your stick tighter and steel yourself for the faceoff, ready to snag the puck and put your play into action. Your offense is razor-sharp, your defense is airtight and your enforcer isn't afraid to bloody up the opposing team or take a few minutes in the penalty box. Once the puck is in motion the five men behind you burst into action, sending it through a series of intricate passes too fast to intercept. You shoot past other players and take control of the puck once more, a breakaway move that brings it all down to you and the other team's goalie. This is your chance to reserve your place in the history books and lead your team to glory — do you have what it takes?Return to the rink with NHL 15, the latest installment in the series known for intense hockey action. Missing Features hurts Next Gen Hockey's 1st Entry

Alright so lets get the positive out of the way first. If you're a huge fan of NHL, or hockey in general, and don't care much for multiplayer this title is exactly what you're looking for. With the all new physics engine & revamped arenas/presentation it's exactly what hockey fans would come to expect.
However, if you're an online multiplayer fan like myself - or more importantly EASHL/Team Play - prepare to be disappointed. Both game modes were completely left out of NHL 15 which is a huge step back. With an extra year of development (Since NHL 14 skipped next gen systems) there shoul be no excuse that these modes were left out. Be A GM mode is also out of the game and not coming back.
EA has said that they will roll out a version of Team Play sometime after launch but no one knows when, EASHL won't be returning until NHL 16.
Overall if you want a solo NHL experience, NHL 15 is for you. If you want anything more than 1v1 online games though it may be the year to sit this version out.
What's great about it: Same old NHL action, smooth controls, looks great
What's not so great: Missing important game modes

A Must Play If You Missed it on PS3
on July 22, 2014

This honestly might be the best game I've ever played.
I know a lot of people have heard that before, but I believe this is the complete package. It seriously gives HL2 & Bioshock (my 2 other personal favorites) a run for their money. It's nothing we haven't seen before in terms of mechanics/innovation but the story makes you forget about all that. It makes you believe. It makes you feel.
Without spoiling anything it's essentially a Walking Dead/Survival Horror type story that plays like a perfect mix of Red Dead Redemption/Uncharted/Tomb Raider (from the makers of Uncharted, obviously) with a nice balance of story & 3rd person cover shooting.
The story itself I can't say much about other than it's seriously awesome :) It will take you on one of the best journeys you'll play all year. That's all I want to say (DON"T READ MUCH ELSE BE AWARE OF SPOILERS!)
Where this review gets my maximum praise though is for it's multuiplayer effort which gets seriously overlooked. I consider myself a hardcore MP gamer (with a heavy SOCOM, CS, Halo background) and this is the best entry since some of those games. A hardcore TPS with heavy cover aspects that also incorporates the scavaging/mending aspects from single player. With smaller teams it's the perfect blend of nail bitting edge of your seat action.
I'm guessing the game also comes with all DLC released which at a discounted rate makes this the entire package. A must buy for $50, and a must buy for any new PS4 owners
What's great about it: Everything
What's not so great: 50GB needed for DL/Updates

The Price this system should have been at launch

We all know Microsoft hasn't done well in pitching the Xbox One thus far, but this Kinect-less bundle is a step in the right direction. People can say all they want about the camera but lets be honest unless you want voice commands that won't work 100% of the time, it makes sense to save money, and $100 is a lot of money.
Also take into consideration that the 360 version of Kinect is STILL $100, it makes you wonder if the "upgraded" camera is worth it at all.
The Xbone hardware still isn't as good as the PS4's, but this makes the difference in systems a lot smaller. Once they add a game to the bundle it will be completely worth the purchase, like Halo 2 Remastered this Fall
What's great about it: Finally an affordable price
What's not so great: Does Microsoft Ever Keep Their Word? What will they change next?

It may not be an iPhone killer, but it's close...
on July 8, 2012

I'm giving this phone a 5/5, not because it's perfect (it's not) but because for the few days I've had it I'm still in love, and my 4.5 score isn't available.
I've been an iPhone owner since the day it debuted and only recently decided to upgrade and change my ways. Not because I'm bored or don't like Apple, but because I wanted to try something new. At first I was hesitant that an Android phone could match up, not to mention the hardware in general, but so far it's stands toe to toe with the iPhone.
The first difference you'll notice is it's a little bit larger which pretty much forced me to become a two hand navigator, where on the iPhone I could do everything comfortably with one. It's not a bad thing because the payoff is a gorgeous screen, with a super fast interface that's very similar to iOS now. The quick menus make everything faster, which is always a plus.
The phone does come packed with tons of Apps, a lot of which I probably won't use, so it may seem like a big task for someone new to the phone. The flip side to this is tons of ways to customize your phone. Apps, widgets, backgrounds, fonts. Lots of ways to upgrade and improve.
The Camera is also great, and while it does have an insane burst mode I do tend to get lots of image blur in about half the pictures. Shutter speed is nice and fast, and videos look great as well.
Some of the few problems I have with it are a major glare in direct sunlight. With brightness completely jacked up you can still view the phone okay, but it's not as good as the iPhone seemed. Battery life does drain fast if you use the phone a lot, you'll have to probably charge once a day. What's worse is it takes a long time for the battery to charge. At least an hour for complete, maybe more.
Other than that I absolutely love it. I still have a long ways to go before I dive into every part of it, but so far so good. I know I compared it to the iPhone a lot, but I feel as if this is one of the first phones that come close to bringing you that experience, with the added features of the Android market (for better or for worse).
Not perfect, but darn close. Highly recommend.
What's great about it: Beautiful screen, Very Fast, Lots of ways to customize, Expandable memory, Easy iTunes support
What's not so great: Poor in direct sunlight, Okay battery life, Long charging times
