TheRealLucifer's Reviews

Three brave warriors take on a street gang that's taken control of a post-apocalyptic metropolis in this sci-fi action thriller. In the year 2010, civilization has been crushed by global thermonuclear war, and as anarchy spreads, two remaining police officers (Ice-T and Coolio) attempt to keep order. A group of thugs and criminals calling themselves the Ganglanders have taken control of the city, with psychotic Lucifer (Vincent Klyn) as their leader. A deadly flesh-eating disease is sweeping the city, and scientist Dr. Adams (Tim Thomerson) may have discovered a cure; when word gets out about the doctor's research, Lucifer and his henchmen kidnap Adams, realizing the cure could be a powerful bargaining chip in crushing any final opposition to their plans. Jared (Costas Mandylor) is a former military hero whose wife and children were killed by Lucifer and his Ganglanders; eager to get revenge and save the lives of those suffering from the plague tearing apart the city, Jared and two martial arts experts, Derek (Sasha Mitchell) and Alexis (Kathleen Kinmont), team up to rescue Adams and bring down the Ganglanders.

In an all-too-plausible near-future, world governments have dissolved and control of the streets has fallen into the hands of brutal gangs who combat each other for territory and show no mercy to innocent bystanders who stumble into their path of destruction. In the face of these overwhelming odds, two police officers (Ice-T and Coolio) sworn to uphold the law, Officers Dunn and Harris, cling tenaciously to every city block in a last-ditch effort to turn away the tide of violence and chaos.
To make matters worse, a gruesome flesh-eating virus is sweeping the country, and only one brilliant scientist, Dr. Adams, holds the secret to immunity. In order to secure the vaccine for himself and his vicious band of rebels, the evil Lucifer has kidnapped Dr. Adams and his family.
Now it's up to Dunn, Harris, and a band of outcasts whose lives have been destroyed by Lucifer's gang to save Dr. Adams, take back the vaccine, and bring down Lucifer's empire.
To call Gangland "visionary" would be a discredit to the film; no amount of description could possibly prepare you for this unforgettable experience. Ice-T delivers a deep, charismatic performance that runs the gamut of emotions from uncontrolled fury to miserable despair, and his role as Officer Dunn would surely rank among the most memorable in his career had Gangland's limited budget and exposure not led it to fall so quickly out of the box office limelight.
If you have a chance to pick up this modern classic at your local Best Buy, do not hesitate - it easily surpasses the overwhelming majority of cinema released today, and you will watch it again and again. The extra features on the DVD set are lacking, but the film itself more than makes up for it. Truly a must-buy for anyone who appreciates spectacular cinema.
What's great about it: Unforgettable performances, excellent effects, chilling plot, and classic characters
What's not so great: Spanish audio track is not accurately translated, dios mio los escorpiones han regresado.
I would recommend this to a friend!
