Great for small spaces or short use
on November 9, 2021
Posted by: psyclopps
from San Diego, CO
It’s that time of year where humidifiers come in handy.
Summary: The Pure humidifier is compact, quiet, and efficient.
Unboxing: The package comes with the owner’s manual, a cleaning brush, company contact information, registration information, charger, and the humidifier.
The humidifier is easy to use, just plug it in and fill the water tank, and that’s it. The power button allows you to control the mist settings to your personal preference from low to high and variations in between. Depending on your setting the light is activated within the humidifier which is a nice touch.
The design is small, compact, and sleek so it’s easy to fit any size space needed. It is great for countertops.
The only two minor negatives I noticed are the size of the charger, it’s bulky, so make sure enough room is between the outlet and any barriers if you plug it in behind a dresser or other furniture. Additionally, it’s a smaller humidifier, so I would estimate 5-7 hours possibly for max use. It is good for daytime use with that capacity, but you might need to refill it if ill in bed in which case I might recommend a larger capacity.

Best neckband out there
on October 26, 2021
Posted by: psyclopps

Summary: Sony’s attention to quality is apparent in this product. The sounds quality is nothing short of amazing.
Unboxing: The speakers come with wireless neckband speaker, instructions, reference guide, 30 day 360 reality audio music trial, limited one year warranty, license agreement, charging cable, DC Cable, Digital Cable, and TV connection dock.
The speaker is set up is fairly easy. The app does most of the work for you, the users only real ‘job’ is to download the app, take pictures of your ears to ensure the sound adapts to your ears. If you utilize it with a Bravia TV, connect it to the TV for setup the first time, this will enable additional features if you use with certain TV’s.
Design/ Use: Overall, very ergonomic and sits very comfortable on your shoulders, neck, and color bone. The quality seems solid as it carries some weight. You can conveniently control the volume from the device it’s connected to, so need to remove the speaker. I enjoyed using it on walks, cooking and mowing the lawn as it is easy to pay attention to your surroundings while enjoying podcasts or music.
The acoustics are nothing short of incredible. Listening to various genres of music from
Classical, Phantom of the Opera (musicals), Kyoto by Skrillex (Alternative), Cancion Bonita and Roberto in Beso (Latin), Hypnotize (Hip Hop), and Losing my Religion (rock) audio was detailed and punch. People around me did not notice too much sound bleeding from the speaker causing little annoyance to them. The speakers allow you to listen to the music in the context that it was intended to convey. You truly feel speakers are surrounding you while focusing on your immediate ear/head area.
The only thing I would change about these speakers is I wish they included a case with it. As these speakers would be perfect on road trips, flights, etc.
Otherwise these speakers are a great purchase and provide an outstanding experience.

Great overall, mixed build quality
on October 20, 2021

This mirror should have good appeal to most people. It is easy to set up, has great magnification and is aesthetically pleasing.
Setup takes less than two minutes and is mostly self explanatory. It comes with everything, including batteries.
The mirror will allow you to easily see pores, any part of your face and has great lighting. The battery compartment is somewhat difficult to reach and feels slightly cheap but the rest of the mirror has a quality feel to it with a sturdy build.
The mirror is prone to smudges and fingerprints so a microfiber cloth is useful to keep nearby as needed.
Inside the box you will find a mirror, batteries, the stand and instructions.

Outstanding sound bar
on September 28, 2021
Posted by: psyclopps
from San Diego, CO
Summary: I love this speaker. It hits way above its weight class with strong powerful sound, great feature set and a good look overall. It is easy to set up and can be expanded for greater surround sound.
Unboxing: The box is extremely form fitting to the device and comes packaged in an L shape box. Inside you will find the speaker, an HDMI cable, power cables, the subwoofer, a remote and some documentation. It is well packed to protect it in transit and easy to unbox.
Set up: If you simply want to plug it in and go that is available to you. The Subwoofer is wireless but it is pre-synced with the sound bar so you won’t have to do anything fancy to get them paired. There is a separate power cable for the subwoofer and the sound bar. The HDMI cable should be connected to the HDMI-ARC connection for greatest feature set and the ability to control the volume and power with just your TV remote. I highly recommend digging through your TV settings and ensuring your sound is set up for some sort of surround compatibility so you don’t limit yourself to a setup that doesn’t bring out the full feature set.
I tried further setup on a Samsung S21 Ultra but had some difficulty pairing them together. After a number of tries, it did eventually work and updated the firmware. If you use a Samsung Phone, you can pair it with Samsung Smartthings and add it to your home devices in their ecosystem.
Bluetooth streaming is a breeze with Samsung phones and you can simply hover your phone near the device to get them paired up for audio.
Use/performance: I tried it out with my Xbox One Series X and Apple TV 4K which both have Atmos support. Configuration on those devices was minimal but you have to ensure Atmos is enabled. Watching a few movies that have Atmos support, I was in love with this speaker. The top firing speakers are not mind blowing but they provide additional fullness to the sound and greater immersion. The sound bar and subwoofer are extremely loud if you so wish and the audio has great contrast between highs and lows. Bass is powerful so I did have to turn that down a bit.
Upgrading: There are addition wireless surround speakers available for purchase with this unit but you would have to set them up to pair with the device the first time. If you are looking for better surround, I highly recommend that upgrade for a full 5.1.2 system.
Even though the app pairing was a bit wonky, I think the only other thing I would like improved is the build quality of the subwoofer, it feels a little on the cheaper side of build quality. Even with those hits against it, I still give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Good but loud
on September 19, 2021
Posted by: psyclopps
from San Diego, CO
Summary: A good vacuum with loads of convenience but a few flaws. The unit comes with a set up guide, two brushes for installation and the base unit.
The vacuum has your average robot vacuum look with an elevated camera for better mapping and detection. It is a little higher off the ground so might not be able to clear low furniture. The base is rather large and requires 3ft from the sides and 5ft in front of it for proper use.
Set up: Using a QR code, you will be directed to the app. After creating an account, the robot will map your house for efficiency. I experienced the app freezing routinely on iOS during setup so it turned into a rather tedious process. The first charge takes about six hours. To be fair, the battery will last well over the time it takes to vacuum but expect some time if it is drained. The first mapping can take place after it is charged.
Use: The robot seems to be rather efficient in cleaning choosing a good route that doesn’t appear random. After it is done, it will dock with its base and dispose of trash which can hold up to six months worth of trash. The convenience is outstanding. But… the vacuum is very loud. It routinely makes sounds as if it is winding up and winding down and might scare animals. There is no mopping ability in this unit.
If the vacuum was a little quieter and had a better app, I would give it a full rating but the issues leave it at 3 out of 5.

Great Xbox One games or Series X archive
on July 24, 2021
Posted by: psyclopps
from San Diego, CO
Summary: A great little hard drive to expand your storage options while looking cool! Easy to use, set up and stylish.
Pros:
Looks awesome!
Easy to set up
No external power needed
Compact
Stays cool, little heat
Cons:
Not an SSD, stuck as mechanical hard drive speeds
Not good for games that need SSD speeds
Unboxing:
The unit comes in a compact package. Inside you will find the hard drive, a USB 3.2 connector (USB A to USB Micro B), some documentation (including a Xbox game pass trial).
Installation:
After plugging it into a Xbox One Series X, the prompt to format the hard drive appears and asks if you want to make it the primary installation drive. I kept it as a secondary but it was nice to get the prompt.
Use:
Using the drive is very straightforward, after it is set up, any use is mainly in the background if it is the primary device. If it is your secondary hard drive, you might need to manage your storage on the Xbox to move games back and forth as needed. I recommend using older games on the external hard drives and using newer games on the internal SSD since it is faster.
The external hard drive is rated for 130 MB/s which is greatly different from the internal drive at 2.4 GB/s (uncompressed) so if you are looking to fast load times and more modern games that require faster data streaming this might pose an issue. Some Xbox One Series X games might require an SSD so be aware. If you are looking to hold older Xbox One games or have a place to move games back and forth (archive) so you don’t need to redownload, this is a great solution.
The drive has a solid metallic build and looks like it will last. There is a white indicator light for hard drive activity that is very bright. The two tone finish which is mostly black with white accents looks very cool.

Versatile camera with good quality
on June 23, 2021
Posted by: psyclopps
from San Diego, CO
Summary:
Good for most people. Not a jack of all trades. Great video and audio quality. Compatible with Intel devices only (no formal M1 Mac support).
Unboxing:
The unboxing is barebones. There is the device, USB-C or A attachments and documentation.
Set up:
I first tried it on my M1 Mac Mini. The device installed and worked after downloading the J5 app from the app store. I was able to see the camera, but it looked a little poor in quality. I looked at the website and saw there is no M1 Mac support with the drivers. If you have an Intel Mac, you are GTG.
I then tried it on my Asus laptop via USB-C. Drivers installed instantly and the software from the website worked as expected.
Software:
The J5 companion app is basic. It allows for basic color/contrast/exposure correction but not much else. You can click on a camera on the left side to make it work with other apps. I would have liked some control over resolution or focus here.
Use:
Used as a webcam for video calls, pictures were clear and voice from the microphones were clear on the other side (tested by recording a voice sample). The device hands well from a laptop lid or on the desk if you prop it up on its stand. I really liked there is a tripod attachment on the bottom of the unit for anyone who might use such things. The unit does not just adjust up and down but also swivels left and right.
What I did not like is the software isn't very smart. Focus is very hit or miss with many feeds appearing blurry. If there is lots of contrast the whites often got blown out. In most settings this was not an issue for me, but it can be for some.
For travel this unit is compact enough to be carried in a bag and feels sturdy for travel.
Overall a good job to J5, it could use some tweaking but is a nice camera overall.

Perfect for all coffee lovers!
on June 21, 2021
Posted by: psyclopps
from San Diego, CO
Summary:
Just what I needed to complete my coffee bar! Using this for espresso-based drinks as well as drip coffee works like a charm!
Unboxing / first impressions:
There is not much in the box other than the unit, a cup with a lid, a cleaning brush, and instructions. The unit has some weight to it and feels high quality with high-end materials. I was impressed by the cover over the actual grinder as it is just big enough to fit beans into but too small to allow fingers or any other accidental objects to get in.
Usage:
The unit has settings from 1-11 which include from lowest to highest Prismo, cupping, AeroPress, Pour-Over, Electric Coffee Maker, French Press, and Cold Brew. I placed some beans into the grinder and started for an electric coffee maker. It worked very quickly and surprisingly quiet vs what I expected. The cup of grounds is about an American cup worth so you might need to do a few grinds to get what you need depending on how much you are brewing.
What I thought was cool is the cup has a magnetic spot on the bottom to perfectly align it with the grinder, it was a nice touch. The quality of the coffee was outstanding with the fresh beans. I also tried it out with espresso to make a latte, the grinds were extremely fine as expected, and nothing was missed. There is little cleanup after use since the grinds are likely to spread around the area as you are cleaning the unit or pouring them into your coffee apparatus.
I have nothing bad to say about this unit. Some might complain that it only grinds a small number of beans, but it is not that much of an issue to me since I just do it twice for my desired amount. Five out of five for me!

Great for kids school and games
on June 5, 2021
Posted by: psyclopps
from San Diego, CO
Great for kids 8+. They are stylish, sound good enough (for kids) and allow for enough sound isolation/comfort to help with school work.
Pros:
Good style
Decent sound quality (for kids)
Volume limiting
Mic, pause play in-cord button
Durable
Cons:
Low volume (even with the switch off)
Cheap build
Unboxing:
There is not much inside the box. You will find the headphones and a warranty. My kid was very excited to try them since they look cool and look like “big kid” headphones, a big upgrade from his Pikachu headphones. They fit him perfectly and required zero setup due to this being the corded version.
Sound quality/comfort:
As an adult, I would not listen to music on these things. They are not bad but overall muted in the mids and highs. Bass is somewhat more pronounced but it feels like something is missing from the sound. For kids headphones, I would say they sound good though. There seemed to be more volume out of the right speaker compared to the left speaker, maybe some bad wiring/design, maybe it’s just my old ears. My kid won’t notice though.
There is a hidden switch in the right ear cup that will change the max volume from 85 db to 95 db. Listening to some music (a challenge since they are for smaller kid heads, not adult noggins), the headphones provided a decent seal and were fairly comfortable. I feel good with my child wearing these for extended periods of time as they will not hurt and not damage their hearing.
Durability:
The structure is sound. I do not fear them getting major damage if they are dropped. The body is lightweight and plastic and will scuff with falls but won’t break easily. The foam and pleather are average and will rip if handled poorly but this is no different from most headphones. The same goes for the top foam. The cable is braided and highly durable with a 90 degree 3.5mm jack.
Overall, this is a good pick for most children as they are durable, sound decent, provide little distraction, and are very comfortable for school or games.

Good for most
on April 28, 2021
Posted by: psyclopps
from San Diego, CO
Summary: A good set of headphones if you have a need for wired and have a USB-C capable device.
Setup / unboxing: The package comes with the headphones, three sizes of ear buds, a small manual and warranty documentation. Being USB-C, they are plug and play. I tried them in my S21 Ultra, iPad Air and Asus Laptop, all worked first try with no setup.
Pros:
They can be used with any device with a USB-C connection. Sound quality is decent with good bass and clean sound. I did not find it amazing good for general listening in most environments. Sound isolation was good for me and there was a good seal with the included tips. The cord has enough slack to not worry about it getting snagged in use.
Cons: The tips took a little work before they would stay in my ear comfortably; once they were set they did not fall out and were comfortable. There is no included carrying case. The ear tips sizes might be all too big for smaller ears.
My job keeps me offline for days at a time so these will be good when I do not want to mess with wireless ear buds or charging devices. Their wide compatibility makes them very useful.

Game was not tested properly
By skullboy88 from Los Angeles, CA
First of all the reason for such a low rating is that the game is not playable. Right out the box. Now, I have been building pc's for over 10 years and have sunk hundreds of dollars into my rig to play the most demanding games. And I do. The problem is that ID software sent out a game to the public that is not finished. Google, rage graphics problems and you will find a magnitude of arcticles about poor graphics bad drivers and other issues. AMD and Nvidia have been working for a driver patch but reports from many say they do not work to fix the tearing and poor rendering . People are paying $60.00 for a pc game. Dont you think it should work right away without having to wait for a patch?

Horrid Sound
By DELienz from Delaware
I had pair of Sony Headphones that I bought a few years ago for approx. $50 dollars... Sounded Amazing, but I recently ran then over with my car... Anyway bought these assuming the sound would be similar and also compensate for my only complaint with my other heardphones which was falling constantly out of my ear during workouts. Turns out these are more expensive but that sound terrible. Tried changing the setting on my IPOD and there is no overcoming the lack of bass. I am a auidiophile and I do listen to music a lot of double bass and drums so bass is something I must have in a headphone. If that's what you looking for don't buy these. I'm confident cheaper headphones with the same quality sound can be obtained so I would not recommend these to anyone...

Balanced Armature
June 28, 2012
Balanced Armature headphones are designed to sound like the original recording. Most headphones these days are "dynamic armature" which are designed kind of like a hardware equilizer where bass is usually most important. Any of these balanced armature headphones are aimed specifically at audiophiles as they repoduce very true to original sound with detailed mid ranges and highs.

Alexa is present but it does not integrate into any build in GPS as far as I can tell. There are other devices such as the Garmin speak which combines a dash cam with Garmin + Alexa navigation via a skill but there is no screen on that device.

Garmin Speak™ Plus with Amazon Alexa is what you love about Amazon Alexa, now in your vehicle. Use voice control for hands-free access to music, news, navigation and more. Plus, a built-in dash cam gives you forward collision and lane departure warnings.

Can you please tell me more about the dash cam. Can it be controlled by voice or a remote button? Where does it store the videos and how can I get them? Through wifi or only sd card?

It is simply always recording. There is a separate app you must download if you want to view on your phone. It will connect to your phone via wi-fi but you can take out the Micro SD card if you want to plug the videos in to your computer. There is an overlay option which tells the drivers speed and a little more info as well. It also records in car audio.

If maps stay up to date , is the system using my data plan ? Garmin & TomTom use satellites , what does this system use ? Does this system in any way use my data plan and if so , how ?

I did a trip to a national park using this device. It appears there are no downloaded maps as the moment I lost my data connection the device didn't know what to do. It seems it is always using your data plan as long as you are using pretty much any of its features other than dashcam.

With all these features, Does it scan the road and next to the road for objects such as DEER ? If so will it alert you ?

From my experience, no. There is only lane detection warning and collision detection warning as added safety features.

Is there any way to do talk to text in tablet mode? Or make the keyboard swype at least?

There is no dictation function but there is a few keyboard settings that could help. You could configure the touch keyboard in split layout so you can use only your thumbs on each side of the screen to type. It takes a little practice but is useable when you get used to it. There is a also a "Scribble" mode where you can write on the screen and it will turn it into text.
