You may wonder what I mean about "easy on the eyes"? Well, we never thought selecting a new big screen TV would be so difficult! Our last one was bought in 2006, a Sony rear projection screen TV, 60". We loved it! But when it came to choosing a new one, the 4K seems to be the thing of the future, so we wanted to be ahead rather than behind.
First, we were knocked out by the Samsung 4K, the clarity of the picture, so we chose that one, same price as the Sony 4K. But the movies, all movies, looked ridiculous. Their technology changes the look of a real movie, converting it to looking like it was shot in video. And the overly sharp clarity on any channel really tired our eyes to the point where we couldn't watch for very long. That is not what we wanted.
Next, we were "sure" the right choice was the new SHARP Q+ because it didn't overdo the movies, and we thought the regular TV would be great. Well, it wasn't. The regular TV output tried hard to make it look sharp, but instead on the local channels, especially on the newscasts, the reporters' eyes had these weird white spots on their eyes, which glistened like vampire eyes! It was disconcerting, and again, hurt the eyes. And tired our eyes from "trying" to watch. That is NOT what anyone wants in a big screen TV!
Finally, we got a really good demo with our BluRay movie we took to the store (something I highly recommend everyone do when buying a TV nowadays), and watched their feed first, then watched part of our movie we had seen at the theater. The SONY WINS!!!! Hands down! The live feed here at the house is gorgeous, and the movies look great! Wow, the best of both worlds, finally!!!
The COLORS on the Sony are just breathtaking, the sharpness is as good as one could hope for, but DOES NOT TIRE OUR EYES! We stayed up very late last night, just going from one show and channel (we have Dish) to another, to Netflix, to local TV, just to see how beautiful everything looks! And our eyes were just fine.
We also read that some people think the sound on these flat screens lacks quality. However, we are very picky (as you can see) about the sound as well as the picture, but find the regular TV sound to be quite adequate for most channels. We also already have our surround sound system from years ago, and just switch that on when the situation calls for it. You cannot expect surround sound out of two speakers built into a flat screen. We also bought the BluRay player that plays 4K to go with it. As well as the Geek Squad protection, even though Sony gives 18 months on this model. It costs just $14/month when you break down the 5 year protection plan. That is worth the peace of mind, and Best Buy's protection covers everything, not just certain parts.
Conclusion: Buy Sony. They know how to please the viewing public. Their technology is the best. And this makes our third Sony Bravia.
The Best (Buy) part? Just got an email today on special sales at Best Buy. Our Sony 4K JUST WENT ON SALE! Again! We claimed our savings, since we had purchased ours just a few days ago. $300, not bad. Thanks, Sony and Best Buy!! And the fine sales people at Best Buy! You guys are why we come back, and why our pocketbook is less than it was.

Unless you like Video only, don't buy

Internet Connectable?Yes
In the store, the picture IS incredible. However, the display model shows ONLY video, not what a film or movie looks like. The 4K conversion TV's make EVERYTHING look like VIDEO, NOT FILM. This is very disconcerting for those of us who appreciate a beautifully filmed movie suddenly turning into what looks like it was filmed in video instead. As a long time film aficionado, I found this surprising and very upsetting. This may not be what every buyer wants. Because of this immediate reaction and upset that I didn't realize this when purchasing, I have no idea about the internet features included because I don't wish to keep this TV. My husband wanted the newest technology, but I did not understand what this new technology was meant to do. Again, unless you want all your channels to look like sharp, yes it is sharp, video instead of the way a film was meant to be seen and enjoyed, then this is not the TV for you. This technology will not be what you will want because this is this technology's purpose.
Yes, the video on sports and live TV is incredibly sharp, but also having a refresh rate of 120 HZ rather than 240, the picture does flutter a lot on this big of a screen. Since I always buy from Best Buy because if I find something unexpected or wrong with any purchase, at least I know I can return /exchange it for another great product with no hassle. Now, if I can just convince my husband, since he doesn't understand that changing a beautifully filmed, classic movie into video is NOT the thing to do, then I will be exchanging this one for the Samsung 65" Smart TV with 3D that sells for $1,100 less as well. Why pay for something you are not going to be happy with that has a specific and more expensive feature???

Book is better, but movie worth watching

I have seen all three movies in the Swedish version, and also saw the American/English version of the first book. The Swedish versions of all three books leave the viewer wanting more and a bit disappointed, especially if you really enjoyed the books, as I did. The dubbing is very well done, the scenery is interesting, but I just didn't feel the actors were well chosen. Can't wait for the new American/English version. However, I am glad I bought the movies and watched them.
What's great about it: Well done overall
What's not so great: Screenplay needed impact like the book

American version much better

If you liked the American version with Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, you will be disappointed with this Swedish version. I read all the books, and couldn't wait to see all three movies at once. However, the actors chosen for the Swedish version do not fit the physical description nor the physical impact of the characters in the book, especially compared to the new movie. The screenwriting also leaves much out in the relationships as described in the book. There is not the dramatic build-ups from one scene to another, as there should be. The movie tells the story, but without real impact. I am glad I bought it, because it is a kind of collector's version, and I enjoy the comparisons. The dubbing is very well done.
What's great about it: Interesting to see Swedish version
What's not so great: Acting, not enough drama and impact as book or American version

Goes by the book

Having watched the American version of the first book, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, I cannot wait until their version comes out. The Swedish version, which this movie is, does not have the impact of the suspense and drama of the book. It does tell the story, but leaves the viewer with a feeling something is missing. What is missing is the strong feeling you get from reading the book, in this Swedish version. I also do not think the actors were well chosen, especially compared to the American film. However, it is still interesting to watch.
What's great about it: Tells the story well
What's not so great: Screenwriting leaves out drama
I would recommend this to a friend!

No one pointed this out

Interesting that when we complained about this, no one pointed it out! We have since decided to get the Sony 4K instead of the Sharp because it does have.a setting that makes the weirdness go away and the movies look sharp but great, like on the movie screen. The salesman showed us with a BluRay disc I brought in how the movie would look and how to set it up properly on the Sony. The colors are prettier than the Samsung as well.
Thanks for the information about the settings on the Samsung. I will pass it along to others.

Updating since eye surgery

I had cataracts when we first bought this TV. I have just had both eye cataracts removed , one each week. I just thought this TV was sharp and crisp, but NOW I can see that I was wrong! The picture is amazing, and I couldn't ask for more! Now I know what I was missing. Love this TV!

High Expectations?
By MegaKing559
Context: As I live paycheck to paycheck, my wife gave me a budget of $1,500 for a new TV. After doing months of research and begging and groveling at my wife's feet, she acquiesced to my desire for a 4K TV. It came down to this Sony 850B and the comparable Samsung (UN65HU8550FXZA). The Sharp Aquos Q+ 70" was also in the running but I figured I want full 4K if I am spending upwards of $3K or more. Around the time of my purchase, the Samsung model was $200 cheaper, but I went with Sony because of past experiences and because of the reviews I've read about this model online. I was excited when I bought the TV because I anticipated the picture quality to be amazing as described in Sony's description and from some of the reviews I've read.
My Experience: The TV was easy to mount on the wall and set-up was simple and straight forward; however, the Sony remote failed to control my Comcast cable box and I gave up trying after an hour. The swipe remote is cool and needs time to get used to it.
Watching 4K content on YouTube and Netflix is amazing, but perhaps I expected more than amazing? Again, too high of an expectation? I just thought it was going to look just as good as the model in the store and on the Sony website. But, the 4K is amazing nonetheless.
Playing my PS4 and XBOX 1 on the TV looks great, but the picture quality was no better than my 55" LG that is 1080p and 120hz. I did not experience any lagging issues while playing video games.
I have not tried out the 3D, but I have read overwhelming issues about this TV's 3D shortcomings on Sony's discussion boards. 3D is very important to me and one of the reasons I bought this TV. Sony's moderator offered a link for a fix but the consumers with the problems still say they have blurring, ghosting, and other issues with the 3D (my LG plays 3D movies perfectly). I will update my review when I try out the 3D feature.
Upscaling is where I have the most disappointment. All of the reviews about Sony's engine had me excited that my standard HD (1080p) was going to look great but they look either the same or worse. I thought perhaps there was an "upscale button" or setting to turn on but read that it is automatic. I have Comcast and the 1080p standard HD looks better on my LG. I read the positive reviews on this TV with people saying their TV set looked amazing out of the box but mine looked dim and dark - did I get a dud? After reading more forums online and tinkering with the settings, I got the picture to look good, but it looks like normal HD and definitely not noticeable if it was "upscaled." Sports channels looked even worse and there was noticeable blurring and ghosting. I don't want to have to pay a couple hundred dollars for someone to professionally calibrate my TV since most satisfied consumers said theirs was great out of the box. Again, did I get a lemon? I will continue to tinker with the picture settings to see if I can get it more better but as of now, the upscale engine and motionflow leaves a lot to be desired.
Conclusion: I spent a lot of time saving up money and begging my wife to allow me to purchase this TV set. While the TV performed OK (4K content was great), I feel as if I could have gotten an OK TV with the same picture quality for $1500 less. Upscale is non-existent for this TV from my perspective, and the motionflow doesn't do a good job minimizing blurr for sports broadcasting. Maybe I got a defective set, I don't know, but it definitely was not worth the money spent. The comparable Samsung model was cheaper at the time of my purchase. I can still return the TV but will try to see if it is something I'm doing wrong and will contact Sony and/or Best Buy for help. I want to keep this TV but for the amount I'm spending, I might take it back for the Samsung model. But I might also just stay away from 4K since the high end standard HD sets that are thousands less work just as well for most of my needs. Perhaps I'll stick with my current LG and then see if the pricing goes down the next few months.

We have had the same problem
December 10, 2014
Just wanted you to know you should just demand another TV replacement. We have the same problem, and figured out the upscaling is not working properly. After waiting for 6 weeks for the "backordered part", the Geek Squad just called tonight and asked if we wanted a replacement. I said Yes. It also makes me wonder if the part that was needed, which is the whole Main Board, is needed to repair a bumch of these? Why backordered for so long? I think you and we got a lemon, yes, and why not replace it with Best Buy's guarantee?

Good but not great
By Katie
In my house, for a few years now we have had a hoover rug shampooer that has always done a great job, it was just quite the project to use. And a shark rotator for normal vacuuming. That vacuum has a motorized brush that literally pulls itself forward, meaning you don't have to give much effort, comparing that to this bissell crosswave, I had to put in a lot more effort to use it as a vacuum on normal carpeting. However a decent portion of our house is either tile or real hardwood, and using this crosswave, with the water and cleaner in it, was pretty impressive. I felt like it cleaned a lot better than say, a steamer with a microfiber pad on the bottom of it, that really just moved dirt around. With the crosswave I did feel like not only was it cleaning up but also picking up the dirt. After using it for this function a few times I realized the machines parts get very messy afterwards, and there is quite a bit of cleanup involved. Don't take this out 10 minutes before guests are supposed to come over! One thing I did not like about the crosswave was it did not have any hose or attachments. Therefore using this as a normal vacuum, or it being the only vacuum cleaner in the house, would not really do well. Overall, I would definitely continue using this on tile and hardwood with the solution, but using this as a normal vacuum cleaner I will not do, I'll stick to my shark for that. I also noticed that the previous model to this was sold in the 250 dollar range, I would NOT pay that for this product. Sure it does wet clean and dry cleaning, but the quality of the vacuum job, and not having a hose breaks the deal for me.

The Cross Wave is for hard floors and area rugs
January 2, 2017
I am afraid you have misunderstood what the Cross Wave is for. It states clearly it is only for hard surfaces and area rugs, NOT carpeting! It is a vacuum for use WHILE mopping the floor. You are not supposed to be using it as a dry vacuum for your carpeting. Watch the videos you can find on the internet, they show how it works. It is mainly a MOP, not a vacuum per se.

Is the Crosswave safe for laminate floors? If so, how does it do?

Apparently it is fine for laminate, according to a lot of other reviews I have read.

Hi, Does this work in a regular carpet too?.?.

No, wall to wall carpeting is to be dry vacuumed or carpet cleaned by one made strictly for that. The Cross Wave is ONLY for HARD surfaces and area rugs, not carpeting. These are two different things.
