Howard Deutch's comedy The Great Outdoors comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. Spanish subtitles are accessible and the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include production notes, talent bios, and a theatrical trailer. Genre enthusiasts and fans of John Candy will want to give this disc a look, but there may not be enough here to interest the average DVD collector.

classic John Candy, but "plot" doesn't age well

let's face it, 1988 was in the doldrums of vapid teen-love subplot slapstick comedies. In that context, and if you like John Candy, it's fun.
What's great about it: big, goofy fun with John Candy, Dan Aykroyd
What's not so great: clueless teens finding love
I would recommend this to a friend!
