Acid Bath were masters of sludge metal. On this, their second (and last) studio album, they continued their signature hardcore punk-leaning southern sludge metal, but developed their melodic side more than on their debut. The heavier elements are balanced with a dark, almost grunge rock-like sound, kind of like Alice in Chains but more sinister, and the combination is very effective. This is essential for any fan of the genre.
My only criticism is of this 2010 remaster. I have the original 1996 master, and thought I would try this newer master to compare the sound. The newer one is louder, brighter (i.e., more emphasis placed on the higher frequencies), and cleaner than the original, but I prefer the darker/bassier sound and greater dynamics of the original, which is also available on this website (check the release dates).
