This movie is destined to find a place in my family's all-time favorites! Dustin Hoffman's directorial debut offers wit, warmth and relationship angst against a backdrop of a home for aging musicians. Be sure to watch all the way through the credits--it includes a montage of the many supporting players who had prominent musical careers in their prime. Billy Connolly's character, Wilf, provides comic relief, and it's awfully fun to hear his Scottish burr. Maggie Smith is reliably wonderful as her character deals with the anxiety of moving to the retirement home, unsure of what her reception will be, especially from her ex-husband who is a resident. They performed the quartet from Rigoletto long ago, and now all four opera stars from that career apex are living in the same home. Don't miss this wonderful movie.

What's great about it: Lush score, great humor, poignancy in relationships
What's not so great: There are two or three occurrences of strong language and some ribald innuendo; otherwise great for whole family
