In the spirit of cult classics these are unique and captivating films. The first movie is humorous and thought provoking, the second is pretty good- the rest are lower budget films suitable for fans of the series but probably not as interesting on their own. Christopher Walken is great in the ones he is in.
EchoBridge brings us a 5 movie prophecy set which to me is excellent. However it would be more awesome if each movie was on a separate dvd disc inside.Echoberidge has always seems to try and group more than 1 title per dvd disc for some reason.Cut costs maybe but either way this grouping of the films into one set is a plus!!!
The first Nightmare is presented on a standalone Blu-ray. Every extra found on the original DVD release and the special edition DVD have been ported over. You get two terrific commentary tracks, a trivia track, a slew of featurettes, alternate footage, outtakes and more. Oddly, some deleted footage that exists out there in Internet land (found on an old Laserdisc release and in the three videos above) are still missing.
The subsequent Nightmare films are paired up on the remaining three Blu-ray discs. Extras here are ported from the bonus DVD found on the old Nightmare box set. Weirdly, the set is missing the 3D finale from Freddy's Dead. It's not big loss, since it kinda sorta sucks, but with Blu-ray 3D, it would have been neat to see it presented properly. Also, despite an uncut VHS release, Nightmare 5 is still presented in its heavily edited R-rated form. This would have been the perfect opportunity to deliver the longer version, or at least the scenes from that version.
Disc five houses more than 3 hours of additional content, presented on DVD. There's a wonderfully in-depth 31-minute retrospective documentary, “Fear Himself: The Life and Crimes of Freddy Krueger,” filled with cast and crew interviews and plenty of retrospective love and admiration for the franchise. “Welcome to Prime Time” is loaded with snippets and missing interviews cut from other documentaries. Running nearly one hour, there's plenty here to enjoy and explore. This was mostly the hidden pieces from the old Nightmare box set DVD.
“Conclusions” is an 17-minute featurette offering a fascinating analysis and discussion of the series from University of Virginia professor Mark Edmundson, author of Nightmare on Main Street, horror writer Clive Barker, Friday the 13th creator Sean S. Cunningham, and actor Robert Englund. It simply shouldn't be skipped. Concluding the bonus disc are two 42-minute episodes from “Freddy's Nightmare,” the syndicated spin-off series. Sadly, the pilot episode “No More Mr. Nice Guy” is not included. Instead, fans get the solid episode, “Killer Instinct” and the mediocre episode “It's a Miserable Life.”
This set really shouldn't have been a Best Buy exclusive. This franchise is far too popular for such a limited release. And this set is way too good to pass up. For the asking price of $40-50, the A Nightmare on Elm Street Collection Blu-ray is well worth the money.
What's great about it: Quality, sound, and the special features
This Movie made me laugh until i lost consciousness. The price is Great and the features are as funny as the movie. If you love comedies then you must buy this movie.
