Closed-captioned English soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround. English subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include the original theatrical trailer, and filmographies for the cast and crew. This is a solid disc from New Line Home Entertainment that will please genre enthusiasts.

Marvel Comics broke new ground with an African-American superhero named Blade. The movie adaptation tweaked action-movie formulas by mixing martial arts and not quite accurate vampire legend. Appropriately, the New Line Platinum Series DVD adaptation of Blade also contains some surprises. The disc has all the trailers, bios, and commentary DVD viewers have come to expect. More unusual inclusions: a 20-minute documentary on blood and vampire folklore, an isolated movie score with commentary from the composer (great for music freaks), and Blade's screenwriter philosophizing about "dark comics." The many features devoted to comics and vampires keep the extra features from turning into a love-in for the movie, though pure cinema fans will enjoy the printable screenplay, deleted scenes, and a look at an alternate ending. Viewers who also like to read and listen will be pleased, because this is a talky disc packed with information, interviews, and trivia. It all looks and sounds good (letterboxed, 5.1 Surround Sound or Stereo, original 2.35:1 aspect ratio) and is enhanced for widescreen TVs. The back of the box exclaims, "It's More Than Just the Movie." It certainly is.

The hit comedy Big Momma's House comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. Closed-captioned English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround, while a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround as well. This THX certified disc is an excellent release from 20th Century Fox.

The Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. There are no subtitles, but the English soundtrack is closed captioned. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by director Peter Segal, interviews with director and producer Brian Grazer, a making-of featurette, extended scenes, a featurette concerning the extensive makeup effects, outtakes, a theatrical trailer, and a Janet Jackson music video. Fans of the film will greatly enjoy this package from Universal. Those looking for something different may wish to seek out the director's cut edition.

New Line's Platinum Series of DVDs has put out an interactive disc with features as fun as the film itself. While the stars of Rush Hour are Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, the star of this DVD is the film's director Brett Ratner. Ratner's audio commentary is a lightning-fast rant of asides that fills the viewer in on every production detail as it happens. Other Brett Ratner highlights include his NYU student film Whatever Happened to Mason Reese? (with or without director commentary) as well as two Ratner rap music videos (also with or without commentary). Another treat is seven short deleted scenes, as well as an isolated score track with commentary from composer Lalo Schifrin. It's interesting, but not as chaotic as the on-the-set home movies of the cast and crew, all part of an awesome behind-the-scenes featurette. Finally, for those who still need more, PC-friendly software for DVD-ROM users lets viewers access screen savers, interactive games, the entire screenplay and more.

Jean-Claude Van Damme tars in Bloodsport, which comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. A closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Stereo, while a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Mono. English, French, and Japanese subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include the theatrical trailer. This is a decent disc from Warner Brothers that will satisfy genre enthusiasts and fans of the Muscles from Brussels.
