another solid album from mushroomhead
on October 3, 2010

this was a very refreshing album, considering the last few albums i've purchased [linkin park - a thousand suns- and serj tankian - imperfect harmonies] have been duds.
there is not a single song on this album i do not like. any long time mushroomhead fan will love this album.
there's not really much else to say. this is just an awesome album overall. my personal favorite song is "your demise".
the only thing i dislike is the random little kid vocals and the kid beat boxing at the beginning of "burn the bridge". its very odd and i have no reason why its there. NOTE: this is very brief, its not enough to take away from enjoying the album whatsoever.
one thing that might not be interesting to others but i think it is:
-the packaging is very cool for this album. the artwork on the packaging is also very awesome. the photos are really cool.
overall, you cannot beat this album, especially if the price stays at $7.99.
What's great about it: all the tracks are great. cool photos/album artwork/packaging
What's not so great: random child/todler vocals are very brief, but annoying.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Prior to its release serj tankian stated this album would "represent a whole new sound" and would be quite an adventurous musical experience. this is very true.
Imperfect Harmonies sound would best be described as orchestral, jazzy, classical, and possibly electronic [meaning ample use of drum machines/synthesizers]. there seems to be very little electric guitar and the main instrument on this album is the violin.
to some fans, the lack of guitar and the prominence of violins may be unappealing. if you're into an orchestral sound, this album will appeal to you very much.
personally, i feel that this album is just kind of boring, especially compared to elect the dead. maybe i didnt approach it with the right mindset or something. being a long time fan of SOAD and serj's first solo album, i guess i was expecting something heavier [which is bad, i know, since serj's solo stuff is a totally separate entity from SOAD] i just feel that NONE of the tracks on the album would do well in a live setting.
overall, do not get this album if you're expecting something like elect the dead. and i do realize that it was announced prior to its release that the album would have a totally different sound.
imagine if the violin on this album was replaced with electric guitar...
its very clear serj is leaning more towards an orchestral sound for future releases. something to keep in mind.
What's great about it: disowned inc, lyrical content
What's not so great: boring, none of the tracks appropriate for live performances.
I would recommend this to a friend!

i lost a little bit of interest in this new LP album after i heard "the catalyst" single. i didn't think that track was anything special and felt it was boring. when i heard "wretches and kings" my hopes raised exponentially. i really wanted the album to have a similar sound and song structure to W&K.
unfortunately, this album did not live up to my hopes.
[1] if you're the fan that loves Hybrid Theory and Meteora but disliked MtM, stay away from this album.
[2] if you disliked the catalyst single, stay away from this album.
[3] if you liked MtM and the catalyst single, buy this album
i listened to this album with an open mind because after MtM, i knew this band was going in a direction not in my personal favor. i listened to this album multiple times and alloted some time for it to grow on me. it never did, and here is why:
the major reason is that it is a 15 track album, and there are only 9 ACTUAL songs. the other 6 are just ambient noise, samples, and instrumentals that should not be on the album. for example, the first two tracks, "the requiem" and "the radiance" could be combined into one intro [or removed altogether]. why the heck put two nonsense tracks right after one another to start off the album?
wretches and kings is the only song on the album i like start to finish.
unfortunately, the other 8 actual songs are kind of boring. they really just consist of repetitive beats.
overall, this album didnt click with me. i respect linkin park as musicians and i hope they continue to have a sucessful career.
What's great about it: 2-3 tracks
What's not so great: its a 15 track album with only 9 ACTUAL songs.

Beautiful Solo Album.

It goes without saying, but this obviously is NOT godsmack. Don't purchase the CD thinking this is going to be similar to previous godsmack releases.
Any fan of his previous musical efforts will agree that Sully Erna is a very talented musician. This solo record, in a unique style, captures in every way Sully's musical talent. The majority of the drumming is hand-drumming. There are violins, accoustic guitars, flutes, and tons of other interesting instruments on this record.
Prior to Avalon's release, Sully Erna said something along the lines of how he wish we all would interpret the album the same way he does because the record reflects everything in his life and music is such a powerful and unexplainable gift from nature.
This album is indeed a great gift from a great musician [but not just Sully, everyone else on the album as well]. So thank you Sully, and everyone else on the record. Great job!
The juxtaposition between Lisa Guyer and Sully's vocals is awesome.
Overall, i would definitely recomend this record to anyone.
What's great about it: Juxtaposition of vocals, unique style of music, passionate music from passionate artists.
What's not so great: only 10 tracks.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Yet another awesome release from Stone Sour. There isn't one track on this record i dislike. This album is a compilation of soft, heavy, and melodic tracks that will appeal to both long-time and new fans. Cory Taylor's vocal style -- at least to me -- appears more melodic on this album. Definitely a must have for any Stone Sour fan.
What's great about it: Each track -- whether heavy, soft, or melodic -- is great!
What's not so great: on the CD/DVD version, the lyric booklet is attatched to the casing.
I would recommend this to a friend!
