Great for young professionals & serious students

I waited a month before posting my thoughts, but I have to say... This laptop is great! I bought it as a replacement/upgrade from my college laptop which is a 4g RAM/500g Hard drive HP Pavilion dv4 with an AMD Athlon II processor. While I wasn't a total fan of the overheating dual-core AMD processor of the past, this one is UH-mazing!
Although I went into the store looking for this laptop with a 2nd gen i5, after feeling the heat under the Lenovo competitor and the (lack of) heat under this model, I was sold!
Now that I'm a professional, my needs have changed from writing research papers, cyber-stalking the frat boys, and building up my music collection to getting work done wherever I happen to be, Skyping with friends, & catching up on the latest episodes of my favorite shows. I'm able to complete additional training for work online, download new language modules because I'm learning French (which sounds great with Beats audio), and when I record minutes for the non-profits I volunteer for, I'm able to send them out before I even leave the coffee shop.
I love that I'm able to multitask like crazy without it overheating (Thanks to HP's CoolSense management I can actually control my fan settings). I LOVE how long the battery lasts! I am getting some serious mileage out of this model WITHOUT having to buy the extended battery like I did for my last model. The quad-core processing actually divides the work evenly among all 4 processors unlike some Intel i5 processors I looked at. BONUS feature: the fingerprint scanner lets me sign into my most-used websites with just a swipe of the finger. Great time-saver!
What's great about it: Battery life, Beats audio, CoolSense Technology, Specs (8g RAM, Quad-Core processing)
I would recommend this to a friend!

Neighbors should have bought this :)

This thing is a beast. I live in the Cincinnati area and I-kid-you-not it stormed the ENTIRE month of April. Although I'm absolutely nuts and still have the habit of unplugging everything in the house during storms, this is one thing I didn't worry about unplugging.
RESULTS: After all the storms - no surge damage. My neighbors have lost printers and computers from the storms so I'm sure it had to be doing it's job.
PROTECTED ITEMS: 58" Panasonic plasma, cable box, Sony Blu-Ray player, Sony Receiver, and XBox permanently plugged in. Additionally, I plug in my work and personal laptop in when I work in the living room.
DOWNSIDE: The price, eek! But it did earn it's value. The size. This thing is a beast as mentioned earlier. I could hide it behind the tv stand, but to be useful I don't. I need the access to plug in my laptops.
RECOMMENDATION: Buy one to protect all your assets (Computer rooms, every room with a television and gaming equipment)
What's great about it: Protects your investment, 8 "purposed" outlets
What's not so great: Price - these things are always expensive

I use it on everything - except my LCD screen
on December 2, 2010

This stuff is great and the bottle lasts forever. I use it on my HP laptops & printers (laser and All-in-One inkjet), a 58" Panasonic plasma, 40" Sony CRT, Sony receiver, Droid cell phone (we have 2), and Pioneer stereo.
I've had the same bottle for over a year! Well worth the money.
Please don't use this on your LCD screen. It's made of a porous material. I use the monster cleaner to clean the outer parts, but the only thing I've EVER used to clean my 19" Samsung LCD screen with has been a microfiber cloth. I've had the LCD since 2004 and it's still in good condition.
What's great about it: One bottle lasts forever!
What's not so great: Pay Attention: It's not recommended for LCD screens

Long-lasting

Sometimes I feel like ink is so expensive, but really I only replace my ink maybe once a year. This ink lasts SO long. I think the box says I get over 500 prints from this one cartridge.
The companion ink is the tri-color 57. I've never experienced clumping from this brand or these catridges so KUDOS!
What's great about it: So many prints!

Great Gift for my Bat-nerd
on December 2, 2010
Posted by: TrendyCollegeGrl
from Fort Thomas, KY
This was my proudest buy for Christmas last year. The movie is fantastic, the acting was phenomenal, and this CE turned out to be a great addition to my Bat-nerds collection.
Although the Blu-Ray disc holder is literally part of the figurine display, if you return it to the plastic box you bought it in, you can slide it into a square place.
I think I'll have a difficult time topping this one ... he's getting gloves and a hat this year.
What's great about it: It's a collectible item
What's not so great: It must have it's own space... it doesn't fit next to your other movies

I think Katy said in an interview that her parents were a little embarrassed by some of her lyrics ("I kissed a Girl", "Ur So Gay").
This album is creative, witty, and whimsical. You're getting twelve strong songs. I love it!

I have owned this movie THREE times! I wore out the first two and received the director's cut as a gift from my most recent boyfriend.
I know all the words and love most of the cars. Nic Cage is a bad man :)
I fall asleep to the opening credits every night in less than 60 seconds, lol.
What's great about it: The Cars, Nic Cage, the humor
What's not so great: It wears out after a ba-jillion views! LOL

Solid laptop.
By Chaddick from Little Rock
I purchased this laptop about two weeks ago. So far its performed very well. Its light and stays cool. The keyboard is off-set due to having a number pad, and that has taken a lil time to get use too. Nice feature is being able to turn off the mouse pad by double tapping it in the upper left hand corner. The battery last anywhere from 4 to 6 hours plus and multi-tasking is a breeze. My only complaint thus far is the dvd tray, more particularly the button is difficult to push and open. I'm hoping that in time and use this will loosen up. Overall a very good buy for the price.

DVD button
October 30, 2011
Yes, I totally forgot to mention the button for the DVD/CD tray. It is very difficult to push. I always have to look on the side and push it in with my fingernail. Normally, I wouldn't have noticed for a while, but I have been using sign language DVD's and they are a bit difficult to eject.
Otherwise, I think this is the best laptop I've ever owned.

False Advertising!!
By KristalM from FL
I needed a new laptop for gaming. I looked up the specs and found this one at a reasonable price. However, when I took it home, instead of the 2.4 gHz processor listed in the specs, it was a 1.5 gHz processor! When I took it back to Best Buy, I was told, "Oh the website is always wrong." Even though I scanned the QR code on the label which doesn't list processor speed) and the specs also said 2.4 gHz.. Luckily, I found someone willing to help and took home the Asus G74sx for a few hundred more.

So what?
October 30, 2011
I don't see why you would rate this laptop with 2/5 stars. It's just ridiculous for what it does at the price it is at.
So the website may or may not be wrong. If numbers were really important for what you're doing, you would physically check the specs yourself before purchasing. I physically looked at the four cores running and compared them against a similar Intel i5 model before making my purchase. I actually found that the AMD ran cooler and split the work more evenly among the four cores than the Intel did - surprising, but true.
Bottom line: I have an amazing piece of multitasking machinery that runs games, allows me to Skype while surfing the web and watching Hi-Def videos. There's no way you could get me to pay "a couple hundred more" for a competitor which is offering a processor that potentially runs hotter temps than the one in this notebook.

Will plasma last as long as LCD?

Absolutely! Most plasma's have a 40 year expected life, with a half-life of 20 years. Panasonic boasts an even longer life span. Will I ever see the results - Probably not.

The cool thing about plasma televisions:

1) The screen is more sturdy because the glass cannot be ripped (if your Wii-mote flies into it, it probably won't break - this translates to kid-safe)

2) Plasma gas is environmentally friendly and does not leak or need to be recharged. If a pixel goes out in your LCD television, you have to pay to replace the entire LCD screen - you cannot replace one pixel. If a light goes out on a rear projection, not only do you pay to replace the light, but you'll also have to have the lights realigned which usually costs around $350

3) LCD's were made for computers with the intention of playing video games. Plasma's have faster response times and are more suited for watching fast-action sports and movies

I am the owner of a 17" Samsung LCD, 40" Sony CRT, and 58" Panasonic plasma. My favorite by far: the Panasonic 1080p

Can you watch 3D movies on a regular TV that is not a flat screen?

I wanted to know if you got a 3D ready DVD player if you could play a 3D movie.
Yes you can. Instead of choosing the 3D option, you would choose the 2D option on the DVD menu.

Because each brand of 3D TV has it's own pair of glasses and sends out its own signal, experiencing the 3D movie will not work on a regular TV set - (even if you find or buy a pair of 3D glasses) but you can definitely borrow, buy, or rent a 3D movie and watch it in 2D.

Does Best Buy carry t.v.'s made for outdoors/

I'm not sure who carries them, but the Barleycorn's in Highland Heights, KY has Panasonic plasmas hanging outside on their patio under a wooden porch. They seem to be lasting pretty well so I have to imagine that's the brand to look in to.
