Absolutely! Most plasma's have a 40 year expected life, with a half-life of 20 years. Panasonic boasts an even longer life span. Will I ever see the results - Probably not.
The cool thing about plasma televisions:
1) The screen is more sturdy because the glass cannot be ripped (if your Wii-mote flies into it, it probably won't break - this translates to kid-safe)
2) Plasma gas is environmentally friendly and does not leak or need to be recharged. If a pixel goes out in your LCD television, you have to pay to replace the entire LCD screen - you cannot replace one pixel. If a light goes out on a rear projection, not only do you pay to replace the light, but you'll also have to have the lights realigned which usually costs around $350
3) LCD's were made for computers with the intention of playing video games. Plasma's have faster response times and are more suited for watching fast-action sports and movies
I am the owner of a 17" Samsung LCD, 40" Sony CRT, and 58" Panasonic plasma. My favorite by far: the Panasonic 1080p
