best release this film has ever seen!

This is an amazing purchase, especially considering that just one year ago you would have had to pay around $150 to buy these 3 films used. They've all been out of print for years, but thanks to Shout Factory you can get them all, plus a new documentary and bonus features, for only $20. Definitely worth it. I am extremely pleased with my purchase. Part 1 is one of the best 80's slasher films. Part 2 is a terrible waste of time, but at least it had a few great gore shots. Part 3 was a great slasher and much more like the original than Part 2.

Seriously, buy this. It's very hard to find a copy of Prom night 3 and almost impossible to find Prom Night 4. Yet here they are together and still available brand new. The only downside is that the people responsible for this release used the TV print of Prom Night 3, so there is no topless Mary or the classic, "I don't want your ---- pie" line. I guess the TV print held up better than the R rated print, so that's why they chose it. Prom Night 4 is full on though. But, like I said, these are hard to come by used, let alone brand new.

Released on DVD the same day as horror specialists Shriek Show offered a more feature-packed, two-disc Special Edition of the same film, director Lucio Fulci's gore-drenched zombie effort has been lovingly remastered by William Lustig and the folks at Blue Underground to offer a near-flawless transfer despite its relative lack of bonus materials. Presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen, this transfer is simply the best presentation of this film on DVD to date. Rumor has it that both Blue Underground and Shriek Show have used the same print in striking their transfers, though Blue Underground's stellar transfer edges slightly past Shriek Show's with an image that is both sharper and offers more accurate colors and skin tones - making this the disc to buy if you're simply looking for the best transfer possible. With bright, vivid colors -- including reds that seem to leap from the screen -- rock-solid blacks, and little evidence of edge enhancement, the visual presentation here is near flawless. Audio presentation is solid as well, and with Blue Underground offering no less than six audio options (three in English and three in Italian) with optional English subtitles, viewers can choose to watch the film in a variety of ways. For purists, Blue Underground has included the original English and Italian Mono mixes, which place emphasis on the voice track and ring through loud and clear without distortion or hiss. Equally clean are the Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround and Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks, with the Dolby Digital 5.1 mix, in particular, carefully updating the soundtrack by offering directional effects that remain faithful to the original mix while truly packing a punch that will undoubtedly satisfy those with solid home theater systems. As previously stated, the bonus materials presented here pale in comparison to the Shriek Show release, and though they are limited mainly to promotional materials, there are a few gems to be found. While the original Italian trailer doesn't shy away from revealing some of the film's more shocking gore effects, the U.S. trailer offers only brief glimpses of the zombie menace while warning viewers that they will be supplied with "barf bags" lest their sensitive stomachs have an adverse reaction to the wildly explicit gore. Television spots closely resemble the U.S. trailer by reiterating the warning of the aforementioned trailer, and radio spots featuring an ominous-sounding announcer are sure to send a chill down the spines of the easily frightened. Poster and still galleries offer a wealth of fantastic images, and in addition to the much talked about shot of the large zombie from the opening scene emerging from the New York harbor (on a poster apparently autographed by Fulci himself, no less!), viewers are also treated to a humorous shot of the same zombie relaxing with a cigarette between takes. For those wanting to learn more about the legendary Italian director, an extended bio traces his career from his earliest days training with Luchino Visconti and Michelangelo Antonioni to his touching final appearance at the 1996 Fangoria Weekend of Horrors in New York.

Fulci's worst zombie film
on March 8, 2011
Posted by: Elephant
This movie has a good following behind it, but I personally think it's all in the name. Fulci's other zombie films are much better than this one. Sort of in the same vein as his 'City of the Living Dead', but much more boring and far less gore. This film moves very slowly, not as slow as the Italian zombie film; 'Let Sleeping Corpses Lie', but pretty close. The acting is sub par for this era, and the dialog will make you laugh.
There is hardly any gore at all in this film, and the gore that is in it doesn't show until the last 20min., which is easily the best part of this film. I think the only thing I really enjoyed about this movie, aside from the end, is the cover art. The artwork they used for this release of the film looks great, as does the original cover art with the zombie head.
What's great about it: The last 20 min.
What's not so great: The terrible effects used. The zombies look horrible.

Best Fulci film!
on March 8, 2011
Posted by: Elephant
This is easily Fulci's best horror film. Like most of his other zombie films, this one has to do with the gates of hell being opened. The film is consistently great throughout, has plenty of gore, awesome soundtrack, and really captures Fulci's film style.

Great Fulci film!
on March 8, 2011

This is one of my favorite Fulci films. The plot is about a kid whose family is moving to a new town. He keeps getting disturbing visions, from a little girl that lives in the town, telling him not to come there. Of course the boy and his family move to the new town. I don't want to give anything away, so I'm not going to continue with the plot line.
Fulci did a seriously good job with this film. It has an awesome soundtrack, great gore scenes, nice twists and turns, and really gives you that classic horror vibe.

great early slasher film!
on February 27, 2011

This movie is based on the book 'communion'. It has a nice 'who's the killer?' plot to it. Plenty of good death scenes with great twist and turns throughout. If you're a fan of films like 'Black Christmas', "Happy Birthday to Me', or 'Prom Night', you'll enjoy this movie.

slow moving Zombie film
on February 27, 2011

The characters in this movie act so abnormal. I don't think the writer had any idea how to write dialog or someone messed up on the translation. The movie isn't very popular and most people blame it on the fact that the film has gone through so many different name changes. I believe it's simply because the movie is very slow moving and has barely any payoff.

I dug this film because it had most of the original cast, but other than that the movie was terrible.

This parody of horror movies centers upon an impish little genie who was accidentally released from its bowling-trophy home by a lively group of curvaceous coeds after they end up trapped in a shopping mall. To stop the mischievous demon, the girls team up with a few geeky nerds.

Awesome cheesy 80's film!
on February 27, 2011

This movie was great. Basically a group of sorority pledges have to break into the mall with some nerdy guys as a hazing method. They run across an evil imp who grants wishes. Not really any gore, and the characters a badly acted, but there are plenty of topless scenes and great one liners. Definitely worth watching if you're in the mood for a super fun 80's straight to video horror film. Fans of USA's Up All Night will love this!
