Nice Looking Cooktop - But!
on October 1, 2016

This device replaced our 23yr. old Kenmore/G.E. electric cooktop with the same dimensions and specs. Our original cooktop served us well over that period until the rheostats (controls) and one burner finally required replacements. Thus we purchased this unit from Best Buy, installed it accordingly, etc.. We have now had this unit for 5mo., have given it a good overall chance, but sadly we are very disappointed.
Here are the reasons: (1.) This so-called "GLASS" surface is not really true glass like our original unit which had a TRUE GLASS surface - it is a man made ceramic compound (chemical/scientific makeup available in further researches) that is actually "rather soft and delicate". We are very careful when using this cooktop, following every direction given by the manufacturer and in general usage about Ceramic Cooktops. The cooktop surface scratches very easily. We take extreme care NOT to rotate, or slide a pan or skillet across the flat ceramic surface. We utilize quality aluminum cookware, and do not apply any downward pressure during usage. However, the surface scratches so easily, you can not help but start to see such markings. We are very careful to NOT spill any Tomato or Sugary based substances, or spills from anything such as even lifting a covered lid off a pan/skillet dripping condensed water, or other liquid producing droplets, yet they do find their way to the cooktop surface no matter how careful one is. To CLEAN the surface, we utilize the special liquid Polishing compound made, along with the Yellow texture scotch-brite type pad made for this purpose. An ongoing process after each usage - otherwise the surface can start to pit, or have permanent marks. (2.) The BURNERS DO HEATUP fast. However, all burners the turn on and off constantly - their so-called thermo controlling, and we seldom turn a burner on to FULL Heat. This issue is that your cooking process will burn quickly, or will sit their not cooking much at all - BAD design of techno-parameters of internal components. (3.) This cooktop is touted as being made in U.S.A. - not so, the underside markings all say Made In China!
It is our understanding that there are actually only 1-2 manufacturers of electric cooktops, and all others utilize their BRAND NAME under License tone of the makers. Best Buy as the Seller is NOT at fault, (5 stars for them) they were very cordial and helpful during the sales cycle and delivery. It is the product itself, just NOT to the same quality as those units made years ago. If we had to do it over, we would convert to GAS (as we had decades ago), and buy a unit with Iron Grated tops of high quality. In the mean time, we gave this reviewed unit at least (2) Stars only because it does turn On, and it will cook your foods.

Sony A6000 is Small but Powerful
on April 27, 2015

With the myriad of brands and models currently available to consumers, it is very hard to know WHAT to choose as being the right one to meet your needs, desires, and pocket book effect.
Sony produced this A6000 in 2014 as a follow-on to its 3000/5000 Series of Mirrorless Cameras. Probably the two most important aspects are: (1) The A6000 utilizes a genuine APS-C Sensor which the same type used in DSLR, and DSLT (Alpha) higher end products. In simpler terms for those that may be less familiar with that meaning - this ensures that you will have a SENSOR that is just slightly smaller in physical, and Megapixel capacity for capturing nearly every type of photo/shot condition/movie you would ever come across. (2) It ability to Fast Focus via some 179 Auto-sensed points means that whether it is a Wildlife critter making a jump, or taking off, or your child's first hit at the plate - this unit will capture it quickly and clearly. There are hosts of capabilities you can, or have already read about its features and benefits. This review is NOT intended to repeat all those aspects.
This review is a personal opinion from someone who uses this product, owns lots of camera brands, models, and types -not a Professional Photographer- but an enthusiast level hobby photographer. The Sony A6000 is a small, powerful, and very capable Mirrorless camera that equals or surpasses many of the DSLR/DSLT Bridge Type cameras. Bridge Type: A term coined within the industries guru's that means a camera product that is in between a Professional Grade, and just a common Consumer Grade camera.
With the Optional Lenses for the E-Mount class of camera's - such as the 50-210 Lens: You can have the ability to zoom out for that tight shot, or select a Lens for close in Macro type shooting. Even more Lens products are coming out for these E-Mount type Cameras.
The only negative input here has to do with Sony's chosen method of providing the User/Owner with detailed usage manuals (300+pgs.). Their detailed User Manuals are via Sony's On-Line accessing, which can be downloaded - but utilize "Cascading Sheets" methodology versus straight PDF, or what we are all accustomed to as common Book Type formatting, such as: Accessing a Table Of Contents, correlate to a Page Number, etc. You can not hard copy PRINT - for placing into a binder or such - with a continuous printing from Page 1, to Page xx, the way we can typically print things. Actual Page Number jumps around, and is SUBJECT Driven vs. Page Driven.
The Camera Product itself, and all the things you can do with it ARE a hit. The Sony A6000 is a big leader in this type of product.

A Very Powerful Point and Shoot Camera
on March 30, 2015
Posted by: BillsCameraInputs
from North Royalton, Ohio
With all the Camera brands and models currently available, why would anyone want, or expect, to pay $1,000 for a Point & Shoot Camera, one that does not even have an interchangeable Lens?
Here are some answers as to WHY: As one who is not a professional, but is a hobbyist enthusiast level photographer (primarily Landscape and Wildlife), I utilize some (15) different cameras comprised of the Canon, Nikon, and Sony brands, and ranging from DSLR & DSLT to Higher-end P&S cameras.
This Sony DSC-RX10 utilizes a 1" Exmore-CMOS Sensor which is only slightly smaller than an APSC Sensor, has a very high MP count, has very fast Focusing ability, lots of Focusing points, expands to over 8.3x Optical Zooming plus Digital Zooming, uses a high quality Carl Zeiss Lens, captures your still shots at amazing speed, its Viewfinder and LCD are extremely clear, it has a metal Magnesium Camera Body with polymer over-coating, provides manual or automated functionality that is equal to, or even surpasses many DSLR products, live action Movie capturing is crystal clear, is capable of using Glass Filters, and externally attached Lens Hoods, and is fast in all aspects - except one.
The camera is just a bit slow in turning on because of a high end Bionz Processor, and can also be just a touch slow in Processing your shot just taken, even with Ultra High Speed Class 10, 64mb/sec.+ SD Memory Cards. But slower only in comparison to some of the other cameras available, yet it is still very fast in capturing a still, or action shot - in fact faster than many DSLT/DSLT type cameras. Its new version Bionz Processor is so exact, that this is why a touch slower seems to be perceived in the processing - NOT the actual Picture taking time. That operation is ultra fast!
The only other con is Sony's Detailed User Manuals - the 250+ pages- which are via on-line, or on-line download accessible that utilize the "Cascading Sheets" methodology of information. NOT available in common Book form, or indexed by a direct Table of Contents and Page Numbering. But this is the methodology Sony has chosen for all its Camera products currently - many of us have complained loudly.
The bottom line - Sony's cameras and products are top shelf, and are very innovative. They are high quality, do the job nicely, and are state of the art for the consumer market with leading edge technology. The RX10 Camera is a true winner and provides a lot of functionality horsepower for the user. YES - it is worth the higher pricing!

Photo Paper that works in HP Printers
on November 16, 2013

from North Royalton, Ohio
For those using HP (tm) Inkjet AIO Printers for Photo printing, (there are numerous models), as a few examples herein: Models C10a, 7510, 7515, 7520, 7525 - they are "very picky" about feeding 4x6, 5x7 paper from their photo paper tray. Not so much the case for 8x10, or 8.5x11 out of the Main Paper Tray. The typical result of failures seen by these HP Printers after a no feed, or miss-feed is the message Paper Tray Empty. These repeated messages and failure to print is very frustrating and time consuming. People I've talked with have, or are ready to throw away their HP Printers. In my personal case, I've used Premium Photo Papers sold by COSTCO, and BJ's wholesale for several years. They are typically 60 or 70lb. rated Premium Quality photo paper for Ink Jet printers that states they are equal to the best photo papers buy the OEM Mfrs. - but they do not work all the time in these HP Printers even though you have set your "Printer Properties" to the correct firmware/software specifications.
Ah, at last relief - the HP Premium Plus Photo Paper 80lb. rated, feeds every time, after hundreds of Photos now printed with this particular photo paper. It is made in Germany, and available in Glossy or Semi-Glossy finish. The results are excellent. Yep, it costs more... but what value is your peace of mind while getting nice prints. We all want to save money when and where possible, but for those who enjoy printing their own photos, this product is worth every penny. WMB.
What's great about it: No printer jam ups, excellent paper quality
What's not so great: Cost

Best Song lens for nightclub photography?

I'm looking into purchasing a Sony A6000 and primarily shoot nightlife photography. What lens would you recommend for shooting in nightclubs?
The 16-50mm Lens that typically comes with this product does an excellent job of capturing images in low light, and fast action shots. You have the zooming magnification capability of both the 3x+ Optical, and additional 3x+ internal Digital zoom. The unit F/stops down sufficiently for various colored lighting, and you can set the White Balance to Auto, or set the Balance for specific type of night life lighting to meet the needs of your shots. If you will be further away from the intended subject(s), you could select the 50-210 Lens or other manufacturers product to meet your needs. The A6000's Exposer Control wheel is directly on top of the camera, the ISO goes quite high for Night shoots, and of course you have Auto Exposure Bracketing capability thus taking multiple exposures per shot. My own experience in lower light settings with this product has been very good.
