Decent entry into the 60% keyboard space.
on April 21, 2024

I am glad to see Logitech finally get into the “pro gaming” 60% keyboard race. The keyboard is certainly portable and light, especially with the included quality hard case. It can easily be placed on an angle (if that’s your style) without taking too much space. Although I would’ve preferred having a metal base, it stays in place when typing or gaming furiously. The double-shot PBT keycaps’ texture feel nice and secure. The optical 1.8mm activation and 4mm travel keys are responsive enough for me. Designated as a “pro” keyboard, I would’ve liked to have seen rapid triggers instead, or hot-swappable switches. While it seems well-built, I did notice some wobble and rattling, which makes it noisier. It’s a good thing there is some dampening in there. I appreciate the convenient volume rocker on the side and the gaming switch, which disables keys that are not used when gaming. Also, the RGB is bright and adjustable.
The keyboard covers all modes of connectivity -Bluetooth, 2.4GHz, and USB wired, and is easy to switch. I really did not notice any huge lag difference between the modes, although in serious competitive situations I’d prefer wired. Nevertheless, I did not experience any real drawbacks when actually playing, regardless of connection.
The battery life is impressive. It’s been a few days, and the battery is a bit over 60% using it for several hours a day, with full-on RGB on.
There is a lot of customization available through the G HUB, Logitech’s unifying app. There, you can change RGB colors per key, reassign keys, and build macros.
In my opinion, I would not call this keyboard “pro”. To me, this is more of an entry-level minimalistic gamer keyboard, which may make the asking price a bit too steep for some. Having said this, I think there is a lot to like about this keyboard and worth checking out -especially if you’re like me, who is into a Logitech ecosystem.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Packs a good punch!
on April 20, 2024

My first impression was that this speaker is built like a tank. The rubber sides make it seem bigger than it actually is, and I wondered how portable it would be. Actually, it is slightly bigger than my 16oz coffee tumbler and fits in my bookbag’s water bottle pocket, albeit a bit tight. The adjustable string allows for carrying in one hand and can be hanged virtually on any peg. I was a bit afraid to get it wet, but I tested it and am happy to report that it is safe to do so. The tactile controls are easy to figure out and the covered USB-C charging port is well protected.
My Android phone immediately recognized it and was ready to go. Using the Sony app, which I strongly suggest downloading, adds more options and features, in addition to controlling the speaker remotely.
Initially, the sound is pleasant and full. The speaker can get quite loud, and at its highest may lose some fidelity. I found that 40-60% is good enough for small-medium rooms. I wouldn’t recommend it for a large park gathering, but in an intimate setting, it’s great. The speaker can be placed horizontally or vertically, and this does not seem to affect sound quality much.
On default, the bass has some impact, the mids are sharp, and the treble clear without being harsh. Now, this being from the “ULT” series, which I assume means “ultimate bass”, once the button is pressed, the bass becomes deeper and has that subwoofer feel. It certainly makes certain genres like hip-pop, R&B, and pop rock much more exciting. However, it does drown some tracks a bit which may require clarity such as classical, live, and ballads. In these situations, simply deactivate “ULT” and it becomes much more enjoyable.
The speaker does not provide stereo sound on its own. However, you can pair two of them if stereo is needed.
The battery life is pretty good. I’ve been using this for a few days and haven’t had the need to charge it. Sony says 12 hours, and I am inclined to believe it.
In the end, I am very pleased with this portable speaker as it provides enough punch for small, casual outdoor and indoor settings. In addition, it is very well priced in my opinion.

Budget-friendly security option.
on April 4, 2024
Posted by: insomniak1
This is a very compact monitor camera with a basic design. The base provides good positional range, and the camera stays firmly in place. It does not have remote adjustment capabilties as more expensive models so it must be positioned manually. It can be placed outside as it is waterproof and has optional screw holes, making it easy to install.
In order to see the video, which is very clear at 1080p resolution by the way, you will need the Blink app. I already own a different Blink cam so adding it to the ecosystem was super easy. There, you can watch in real time what is going on. The picture varies depending on lighting conditions and has a “night vison” mode when in complete darkness. You can also listen and speak through the camera, which is convenient as an intercom alternative. The camera offers motion detection which is quite sensitive -even when something moves far in the distance. The icing on the cake is the flood light option. The camera is also compatible with Alexa and its app, which expands its functionality for many. In order to record or download videos, or receive advanced notifications, you will need to subscribe to the service. It’s not that expensive but worth noting.
In the end, I think this camera offers a lot of features at a very decent cost (especially if you need more than one). Definitely worth looking into when thinking about entry-level security.

Beautiful screen, sleek, functional, premium.
on April 2, 2024
Posted by: insomniak1
Closed, the XPS 14 seems like any Dell XPS laptop albeit in a much more portable form factor. That’s not a bad thing as I appreciate the sleek, professional platinum minimalistic chassis. The laptop has some weight to it coming in at 3.5 lbs. but can still be held in one hand. Opening the lid is where the magic happens. The first thing I noticed was how clean the light gray deck looks. There is only one sticker (which I wish wasn’t there). Gone completely from view is the haptic trackpad. I thought this may be an issue, but I instinctively found it every time. It is also very responsive, and the glass feels smooth to the touch. The palm rejection is quite impressive. The gapless keyboard layout looks amazing, but took some serious time to get used to, and after a while it still affects my typing speed and accuracy. It’s a good thing I don’t rely on speed for reports and emails. Nevertheless, the keys are big and have nice travel and feedback. I love the inclusion of the copilot key as I am relying more on AI answers lately. The lit-up touch function row is great visually, but I sometimes miss actual keys, especially the “esc” and “delete” keys. Still, while the “function keys” do not have haptic feedback, they respond very well, and after some time start to feel more natural.
The next striking feature is the stunning 3.2K OLED screen set within super thin bezels. It is simply eye-popping with vibrant colors, deep blacks, and a defining contrast. The 120Hz variable refresh rate makes everything so smooth, especially when using the touch screen. Being HDR/Dolby Vision certified, compatible content looks even better, if that’s even possible.
When it comes to performance, I’d say this laptop is more geared for medium productivity use. During every-day work (emails, web-surfing, spreadsheets, etc.) it performs flawlessly. The Intel Core Ultra 7 CPU, Intel Arc GPU, and NPU provide enough power to do light-to-medium content creation such as picture and video editing. The 32GB RAM allows for plenty of multi-tasking, and the fast 1TB SSD provides sufficient space. I never noticed the laptop getting too hot, probably due to the heat pipes and side vents, which allow for actual lap use. This laptop is really not optimal for gaming, though. Some light or older games are fine, but if I wanted to play any contemporary titles, streaming was a great option when available. Speaking of streaming, the laptop is Wi-Fi 6E compatible for those who can take advantage.
The sound is above average in my opinion. Although lacking a bit of bass (as with virtually all laptops of this size) the top-firing speakers produce loud, clear, and surprisingly great directional cues (left-right channels).
The laptop features three USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, one Micro-SD card slot, and one 3.5mm headphone/mic jack (thankfully!). Although Dell included a dongle with an HDMI and a type-A USB port, I personally would’ve liked to see at least the legacy USB port and a full-size SD card slot on the device instead.
The 1080p camera is better than most. The colors are bright, even in dim conditions and the microphone catches sound very well. I had no issues during online meetings. I do wish Dell would have added a privacy shutter or cam disabling key/button though.
By the way, the XPS 14 is compatible with “Windows Hello” via fingerprint or face ID, which is very convenient.
The battery life is OK. The 70wHr battery can last almost a full workday doing basic tasks. Watching HDR videos, video rendering, or gaming, bring it down to 4-5 hours. The laptop comes with a 60w USB-C charger.
I was somewhat disappointed that the laptop is not upgradeable, at least the RAM, so one must choose the right configuration from the start. And lastly, the relative high price may turn some people off.
In the end, I am quite pleased with the excellent design, functionality, performance, portability, and most importantly, gorgeous display. Yes, it is not perfect and quite pricey, but I would definitely recommend checking it out, especially if and when it goes on sale.

Great controller with some missing features.
on January 13, 2024
Posted by: insomniak1
First, I must point out that this controller is designated as PRO, which is how I am going to approach this review. The controller comes in a very sturdy case. In there, several components, including a long USB-C to USB-A braided cable. The controller screams build-quality and I appreciate the matte back finish, which prevents smudges. There’s also RGB lighting for those who like that. Although designed with PS4 and PS5 in mind, the controller itself follows the XB physical design but retains the PS5 touchpad. It is lighter than the official controller, but that can be changed. As a PRO controller, it is fully modular and customizable. In addition to weight, you can change the stick caps, thumbstick travel, D-pad, and add Bluetooth compatibility with physical parts. You can also change wire/wireless mode, control volume, profiles, and device compatibility with buttons.
This controller feels great in the hand. It is comfortable to hold, and the buttons are placed where I am already used to. The buttons have more travel than the PS5’s which I prefer. The triggers feel nice and smooth, and travel can be adjusted when needed. The default circular D-pad is not my favorite, so I am glad that a traditional cross D-pad is available. The analog sticks have a lot of travel and are loose, but again they can be tightened with the included rings. The caps feel good, and I went with the concave, although the dome option also feel good. I disabled the back buttons as I kept pressing them, but I am still glad they are there. Also, these back buttons can be modified. I do wish the volume and mode buttons were swapped as I pressed them a few times by mistake.
The controller can be further optimized via PC software. Customizing the controller can be a bit intimidating and needs some patience as the app is extremely robust. However, if you like to tinker, you can change trigger response, stick travel, mapping, lighting effects, equalizer and test the controller. As I said, it does take some time and trial and error, but when it’s all done, you will be happier for it. I personally changed very little, leaving Sensitivity Plus off and delay as is. You can assign profiles per console, which can be accessed with the button on the controller.
I am a bit disappointed that while the Nanco Rev Pro is PS licensed, it is lacking some quality-of-life options such as turning on the PS5, the vibration is hit-and-miss and shockingly not available on PS5, there is no gyroscope support, and needs a dongle that occupies a USB port on the console.
As a Pro controller, I could make the case for it because of the tremendous number of customizations available. However, I still think that there are some features that I miss that other “pro” controllers have for almost the same price, and for gamers that just want a simple controller, the features may go over their head. While this may not have taken the PS5 controller’s place, it did become my daily driver for my PC.

Fits like a glove in my PS5!
on January 10, 2024
Posted by: insomniak1
The Crucial T500 SSD just works. Installing it was the easiest thing. The SSD came with the heatsink preinstalled and it fits perfectly in the slot. If you are squeamish about opening your console, I’d recommend looking for videos. Once installed, the PS5 immediately recognized it and following the on-screen instructions, took less than 1 minute to reformat it and get it ready. Although rated at 7400 mbps, my PS5 reported a speed of 5400. Nevertheless, when transferring a chunk of huge games (80-140GB), this was a non-issue. Games load quickly and effortlessly, and I noticed absolutely no hiccups while playing. Also, I do not worry about heat issues because of the heatsink. It should also last longer than non-heatsink SSDs. Now I do not have to have an external SSD taking up a USB spot.
With today’s AAA games needing incredible amounts of space, -even when they come in disk format, having an additional 2TB makes all the difference. Again, installing it is a breeze. It goes without saying that of course, this SSD is highly recommended!

Incredible sound, some quirks.
on January 10, 2024
Posted by: insomniak1
Unboxing the Nommo V2 and setting it up is quite the experience. I am always impressed by the build quality of Razer products. The speakers are lighter than I thought, and although they may appear bulky, their footprint accommodates even a small desk. The speakers are permanently angled so it would’ve been nice if they could be adjusted vertically. Although there are cables to connect from the right speaker to the left and then to the PC, I definitely appreciate the wireless subwoofer and control knob, which paired to the speakers immediately. The down-firing subwoofer is of medium size and can be placed anywhere in the room, which helps in keeping the area around the desk clutter-free. Once installed, the RGB glow can be quite nice, but also a bit finicky.
There is only one physical USB-C port. This severely limits connectivity as there is no AUX input or headphone jack, and it is quite puzzling being such a premium device. I have a dual PC setup and a gaming station, so that is disappointing. Sure, there is also Bluetooth, but that brings a couple of issues with syncing and RGB light responses. Plus, there is no multi-point option, so I must unpair and pair when switching from PC Bluetooth to my phone. Good thing I don’t really use that option.
Once hooked up, Installing the Nommo via Razer Synapse can be frustrating as several updates needed to be done. I had some fails, re-downloads, and device recognition issues that took some time to resolve. Once all setup, I was pleased by the robust features, customization, and personalization. There, you can keep up with the latest firmware updates, change/customize RGB lighting, use the equalizer, and more. I did experience a couple more hiccups where the changes did not take but worked out in the end. I trust Razer will continue to improve the software.
But most importantly (at least for me) is the sound quality. Out of the box, I was immediately impressed. I have several speaker setups and by far the magnitude of these blew me away. I did not have to raise the volume over 30% to have the entire office shaking. By the way, the control puck worked very smoothly. The midrange and upper frequencies come through clearly at both low and high volume. At its loudest, the bass can be overwhelming and there is some distortion. But again, this is only at concert levels, which 99% of the time won’t be necessary. Plus, the bass can be toned down (I have it slightly below the mid-level). Playing music is great, but there are some clarity and imaging issues. However, when gaming and watching movies, it was a delight and quite the experience. As far as details when playing games, this system performed very well. I could perceive where the sounds were coming from, and the detail and environmental sound queues added to the immersion. Speaking of immersion, Razers offers THX spatial audio. This adds a high level of depth and 360-degree audio positioning. It's not quite surround, but it does provide a believable sensation, especially when playing content that supports it. Music, however, is best enjoyed with it off in stereo in my opinion. Again, the audio can be fully adjusted via Synapse.
In the end, the Nommo V2 Pro delivers sound that needs to be experienced to be fully believed. Also, the wireless subwoofer and control pod is such a welcome option to keep the area nice and clutter-free. However, the software and RGB quirks, strange connectivity limitations, and premium tag put a dent on this otherwise excellent speaker system.

Top notch quality and style.
on November 20, 2023
Posted by: insomniak1
Being the proud owner of the excellent Px7 S2 I was wondering how much better it could get. Although the design language is similar, I realized right away that there was an obvious increase in build and material quality. The burgundy finish and golden aluminum accents add to the premium look. The Nappa leather on the headband and earcups just feel (and smell) so good. I'm glad that the fitting and comfort is still top-notch. Although they may be a bit heavy, which I prefer in premium items, I was able to wear them for a full 8-hour workday at a time. The earcups are incredibly soft and the clamping force is just right. Although they stay put in place, I would not wear them for heavy activities as they do get hot, and I did not see any water/sweat resistance rating.
Having Bluetooth 5.2, they connected seamlessly to both my Android and iOS devices. I did not experience any hiccups, no video sync issues, and almost no lag when playing games. The multi-point worked well for me.
I am glad that we still have physical buttons and that they control everything I need. This is useful especially when it's very cold. I appreciate the auto play/pause when taking the headphones off.
While I have experienced better noise cancellation (ANC) in other popular brands, these are quite good. I can still hear higher pitch noise and some rumbling, but it’s not a big deal when listening at low volumes. The ambient mode is Ok as well, it may not sound as natural as when the headphones are off, but it’s clear enough. One thing to note is that the best ANC is when I did not wear glasses, and there was a full seal around my ears.
The call quality is very good –even in noisy or windy conditions. I had no issues hearing or being heard.
The battery life may not be the longest lasting in the premium market at 25-30 hours, but to me it’s good enough, since I do not make it a habit of not having access to an outlet for long periods at a time. Just in case, you can use the quick charge, which adds 7 hours with 15 minutes on the charger.
So, they are comfortable and stylish, but how do they sound? Well, I am happy to report that the new 40mm carbon drivers deliver quite the experience. They certainly sound better than the Px7 S2. The bass is punchier, has extension, and is much more precise this time. The midrange is not recessed, letting vocals (and their texture), rhythm instruments, and choruses be heard fully. The treble soars and adds a lot of clarity and brightness without being sibilant, harsh, or fatiguing. The soundstage was a bit tight and small, and very personal. Nevertheless, the channel separation was distinctive, and the imaging on point. Of course, you'd need Hi-Res AptX audio compatible devices for the best audio quality experience. All audio was engaging –especially movies and games. Just in case, there is a companion app that allows for a simple EQ.
The Px8 comes with its own 24bit 48kHz DSP, in both 3.5mm and USB-C hook-ups. The only thing about that is that the microphone will not work in this mode.
Speaking of the app, that was the one thing I was left disappointed with. It just is too simplistic. I wanted a full-range EQ, and more options on ANC/ambient levels. I do not really use the suggested music channels, so I hope B&W updates it for more functionality in the future.
Yes, this is a luxury item that has a premium price tag. The way I see it, it is like when people buy luxury wearables like watches and handbags. Sure, you can find the same functionality at lower prices, but the style, build quality, and feel makes them worth more than a simple look, and I am proud to always wear them.

Decent audio, lots of features, great price.
on November 8, 2023
Posted by: insomniak1
My first impression was that these matte black headphones are slick and have a sophisticated flair to them. Although they are mostly plastic, they seem well-built, and I hope they last. I was very pleased that there wasn't any creaking. The headphones have ample flexibility, and the cups are decently adjustable.
Now, they are very well padded and super soft –both on the cups and the headband. Although there is light clamping force, they still stay on during walks and normal head movement. They are quite light, so I experienced almost no fatigue during long sessions. They do get a bit hot though. I also tried them with a hat and glasses with no issues.
The Space Ones feature Bluetooth 5.3 so pairing them was easy. I did not notice any real issues at normal distances and encountered little to no lag or sync issues. There is an option for multiple point connection, but that would disable the LDAC capability.
The ANC/ambient sound modes worked great. Although I could still hear higher pitch sounds, it made listening in crowded and traffic settings a good experience. The ambient mode made things sound a bit unnatural, but it is welcomed when awareness is needed. I love that these headphones can be muted with ambient mode by cupping the left cup. Also, while I found it a bit inconsistent, there is a speak-to-mute option as well. To top it off, the cups have auto-pause/play when taking the headset off or putting it on.
The call quality is good. It is still very obvious that I was on Bluetooth, but I was heard clearly. I did pick up a bit of wind noise, but it was no big deal due to the wind-reduction mode.
The battery life is superb. With ANC/Ambient on, Soundcore claims 40 hours and I am inclined to believe it, since I haven't had the need to charge them after almost 4 days. It can go 55 hours plus without ANC/Ambient on. I am also glad that there is fast-charging where 5 minutes on the charger gives 4 hours of playtime. One thing to note is that LDAC will drain the battery faster. Should the battery be completely drained, you can always use the 3.5mm cable (if your device supports that).
You can control all functions from the tactile buttons on the cups, and that is a plus for me. The controls are responsive, and I prefer them to touch controls –especially in cold weather.
The default audio is what impressed me the most. While I love listening to high quality sound from a critical standpoint, the Space Ones delivered a very pleasant sound signature. I found that the bass is a bit restrained but precise. The middle is well represented, making vocals, choruses, rhythm, instruments, and dialogue stand out well. The treble adds clarity without being harsh. There is ample soundstage and imaging with great channel separation. This is even more impressive once LDAC is activated on a supported device. Although subtle, I found that I appreciated the sound signature best with ANC on. Just in case, you can always customize the sound with the presets and full-range EQ on the app.
Speaking of the app, I would highly recommend downloading it as it provides more options such as firmware updates, ANC/Ambient levels, control settings, LDAC support, multipoint, and many more.
If there is anything to nitpick, I’d say that the carrying bag is disappointing, and I wish there were more options for the function button.
In the end, you can easily say that I am overly impressed with the Space Ones, and certainly recommend checking them out. While definitely not audiophile quality level, or bass-head oriented, they are very pleasant to listen to. They are jammed packed with features that many more expensive headsets lack or are almost at the same level, and for the asking price, these are hard to pass.

Ergonomics, functionality, and compatibility.

The whole accessory Is a combination of cheap-feeling plastic and good construction. Nevertheless, I think the design is totally on the mark for its primary intended uses.
Installing it is a breeze. The joycons fit perfectly on the sliders, which fit well into the main body. In controller mode, it resembles the original controller adapter, only slightly bigger. This allows for a more comfortable and natural grip for me. I will say that at first the cheap plastic feel bothered me a bit, but after using it for a while I came to like it, as this actually makes the Joycon much lighter and comfortable for long sessions.
In handheld grip mode, it also fits snugly and securely. Again, the grips feel light and well in the hands. I did notice that this makes the Switch look and feel much longer and less compact. The device will not fit in any case I have. This makes it more of a house item, which I don’t really mind. Also, you can no longer slide the Switch into the original dock station with the grips on, so keep that in mind if you lack space.
In phone grip mode, I was pleasantly surprised. OK, so it does look a bit clunky, but the functionality is totally on point. I tried with my Note 8 and Galaxy 22S and both worked with no issues. It also worked on my tablet in controller mode as well!
In the end I find this an accessory that brings so much to the table in ergonomics, functionality, and compatibility. Sure, it is not perfect, but for the asking price, I believe it’s a must-have.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Does this mouse have a battery included? Is the battery replaceable?

The mouse is rechargeable with a USB-C to USB-A cable, which is included. I don't think the battery is replaceable. Hope that helps!

Would this work well for mowing the yard? I listen to books and music while on the mower. If so, what setting would you recommend?

They do a decent job in ANC. My neighbor had the mower going and they did OK. I could still hear it but I was still able to appreciate the podcast. They may not be the best, but then again, we can't compare to headsets that are 4 times more expensive. Hope that helps!
